The history of Hollywood adapting video games in movies and TV shows has been a little spotty, to say the least, but in recent years, I think the tide has been turning. With shows like The Last of Us and Fallout, video game fans have developed a little hope to see their favorite adapted into a great piece of art and while there will still be wasted efforts like Netflix’s The Witcher and Paramount+’s Halo, they are still only two shows. So, in keeping with that spirit of hope we created a list of the 10 best TV shows that were adapted from video games, they can be original stories in the world of video games but they have to be connected to the original IP.

The overwhelming praise for Prime Video's Fallout has demonstrated that inspired and absurd video game shows can appeal to modern audiences.
While we're accustomed darker and more serious adaptations, Fallout proves there is room on the schedule for many thematic differences from the gaming world to move to TV. But not all attempts are equal.
Many video game adaptations come across as dark and grim as the show creators try to make their show seem edgy and aggressive, even if the game itself was not.
Sometimes, that backfires on them. But how did that become the prevailing tone in the first place?
We can look at Halo as an example. The Paramount+ series tried to bring a more serious note when all the fans really wanted to see was The Masterchief beat the covenant -- without ever seeing his face. Tying a leading man to the helmet, though, was a giveaway that change was ahead.

Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons marks a couple of firsts, although they’ve had several print team-ups and their own comic, it’s the first on-screen pairing of the sons of DC’s biggest superheroes. It’s also the first of DC’s animated films to be completely done by computer, using the same styling as Marvel’s “What If” series.
It opens with a pre-credits recap of how Superman came to Earth, only with one small addition, which may seem puzzling, but will be explained later in the film. That’s followed by what is basically another origin story, that of Superboy, aka Jonathan Kent the son of Superman, and Lois Lane.

As many anticipated, HBO’s “House of the Dragon” has been a top performer for HBO since debuting last month. And luckily, if you’re enjoying the new “Game of Thrones” prequel series, we have insights on the shows other “Dragon” fans in the U.S. are gravitating toward right now, according to Whip Media’s data from its TV Time app, a TV series and movie tracking app that has 22 million global registered users.
Let’s address the show you might be expecting to top the list of most popular titles for “Dragon” fans: Yes, Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is incredibly popular with “Dragon” fans as well. It’s easy to see why, of course, considering the parallels between the two series. Both shows cost big bucks to make, both shows are based on popular fantasy-adventure intellectual property, and both shows recently...

"Dota: Dragon's Blood" didn't seem to rake significant traction upon its release. Yet another Netflix video game-adapted cartoon riding the fantasy adult animation steam trail left by the "Castlevania" animated adaptation, "Dota: Dragon's Blood" (created by Ashley Edward Miller) pitifully does not duel well against the agile contemporary canon of video game cartoons like the groundbreaking "Arcane." But although its shortcomings have been conspicuous, it isn't necessarily an undeserving production.
Whether or not you're versed with the source material, the "Dota 2" Moba video game (don't consult me on that lore), "Dota: Dragon's Blood" may intrigue a general follower of...

Just a few months ago, Netflix appeared to be on a very rough track. Then Stranger Things season 4 came around and led to a less-apocalyptic-than-expected Q2 earnings report for the streamer. With its new releases for August 2022, however, Netflix is going to have to find another hit to keep the good vibes rolling. Here are some of their best options.
Perhaps the biggest breakout candidate for Netflix this month is The Sandman on Aug. 5. Though Neil Gaiman’s classic comic has long been thought to be unadaptable, the folks behind 10-episode series are betting they’re the ones for the job. Get ready to meet Morpheus, the king of dreams and the ruler of The Dreaming.

What began as a mod called Defense of the Ancients for Warcraft III: Reign of Chaos in 2003 has become a multimedia empire for Valve. Dota 2 currently reigns as one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena (Moba) games on the planet, spawning multi-million-dollar esports tournaments as well as a huge viewership on live streaming platforms. With Dota: Dragon’s Blood, Valve and Netflix bring the world of Dota to anime.
Produced by Legend of Korra animation company Studio Mir, along with Netflix Animation and Valve, this new take on the franchise is inspired by the lore found in the Moba, but is also serious narrative expansion of this universe, introducing backstories for not only some of the characters we know from the games but the goddesses and dragons that rule the world of Dota beyond the mortal realm. March brings breezes loud and shrill/stirs the dancing daffodil. Bit of poetry for you there. What Sara Coleridge fails to mention is that March also brings season seven of Brooklyn Nine-Nine to Netflix UK, more weekly episodes of Riverdale season five, a brand new sci-fi series from the creators of Misfits, a new film directed by Amy Poehler and a host of cool animated series.
The One (pictured above) is an eight-part British series created by Howard Overman about a near-future world in which a DNA test can track down your perfect partner. It’s adapted from John Marrs’ novel of the same name, and yes, has a strikingly similar premise to US anthology sci-fi Soulmates. Another fun new UK addition is The Irregulars, a period supernatural fantasy set in the Sherlock Holmes universe in which a bunch of ragtag kids not only have to save the world from darkness,...
