When last we tuned into FBI: Most Wanted — but before all Hell broke loose at the shopping mall — Tali (played by YaYa Gosselin) had just learned that she had gotten into a prestigious boarding school in Canada. Though Jess (Julian McMahon) in the moment was a bit thrown by the unarguably very good news, by the end of the episode he...

Michelle Williams is undoubtedly one of our finest actresses, and she’s gotten to be that way in part because of the choices that she makes. Sure, she might have started on teen drama “Dawson’s Creek,” but from the start of her career, she’s made a point of seeking out interesting films from up-and-coming auteurs and indie legends. Sure, not all of them have worked out (looking at you, “Deception” and “Incendiary”), but the results, and relationships with major filmmakers like Todd Haynes and Kelly Reichardt, and four Oscar nominations speak for themselves.

Though Michelle Williams got her start on a show geared towards teenagers, she's built her already-illustrious career with serious roles that largely been far from family friendly.
To score her first Oscar nomination, Williams co-starred in the gritty, high-profile closeted gay cowboy feature, "Brokeback Mountain." Then, a string of dramas, such as "The Hottest State," "Incendiary," "Deception," "Wendy and Lucy," and "Synecdoche, New York," all of which earned R ratings from the MPAA. The acclaimed work led to two of the biggest roles of her life, in "Blue Valentine" and "My Week With Marilyn," but also, a bit of a parental dilemma: with daughter Matilda walking, talking and out of the nursery, it was a bit difficult for Williams to bring her to work.

After delivering the financially ($286 million worldwide on a $32 million budget) and critically successful R-Rated rom-com Bridesmaids earlier this year, director Paul Feig was seen as the ideal candidate to direct the long-gestating Bridget Jones’s Diary 3 that Universal and Working Title have finally got serious about making. Feig has just handed in the most recent draft of the script to the studio and was eager to direct. That was until Universal, Working Title and Feig all agreed he wasn’t British enough (or English specifically I suppose) to make a quintessential Brit comedy. Who would have thought it?
Deadline reports that a mutual parting of the ways has occurred and Feig will no longer be directing Bridget Jones 3, which is expected to revolve around a mid-life baby crisis and Bridget’s desperate attempts to get pregnant now she is the wrong side of 30. Renee Zellweger (who has pushed for the...

Few mainstream actresses’ have suffered such an almighty fall as Renee Zellweger over the past five years. After becoming a genuine Hollywood star with her career defining role as Bridget Jones ten years ago (picking up an Oscar nomination in the process, rare for a romantic comedy) she then went on to become a heavyweight of the Awards season fare – picking up another nom for the musical Chicago and then finally winning the Golden statue for Cold Mountain in the two years that followed.
She followed that up with another great turn in Cinderella Man (2005) but then the wheels suddenly came off for her, leading to some dreadful choices which she has not been able to recover from. Not only is the film terrific, one of the years' best (read our review here), but McGregor's great in it, the best he's been in years. Because across these last few years, it's been easy to forget that McGregor seemed to be a real star find when he emerged, turning out a string of great performances at the end of…...

Her co-star reckons she's 'a cross between Brigitte Bardot and Clint Eastwood'. Not bad for a former star of Dawson's Creek
In its 11-year lifespan, America's teen network The WB was a highly visible training ground for a vast army of young actors. But the unblemished skin and wounded stares that can make a young star irresistible to adolescent audiences don't always guarantee a long and fulfilling career. The ensembles of such WB staples as Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Angel, Felicity, 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls and Charmed experienced variable fortunes in their quests to be accepted as non-angsty adults. Some actors – Jessica Biel, Keri Russell and David Boreanaz among them – made smooth and successful transitions. Others less so.
But no WB graduate has put as much distance between themselves and their small-screen origins as Michelle Williams. Sorry, make that creatively daring, critically acclaimed, Oscar-nominated Michelle Williams. Or, as Ryan Gosling...

Michelle Williams broke into stardom on the teen series ‘Dawson’s Creek’ and later graduated to full-length features, most notably ‘Brokeback Mountain’ (2005), for which she earned an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress.
In 2006 she appeared in ‘The Hawk Is Dying’ with Paul Giamatti. In 2007, she was in Ethan Hawke’s ‘The Hottest State’ and in Todd Haynes’ ‘I’m Not There’ with Cate Blanchett, Richard Gere, Heath Ledger, and Julianne Moore. In 2008, she starred with Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman in the Marcel Langenegger film ‘Deception,’ and Martin Scorsese film “Shutter Island.”
Along with the Scorsese film, she shot four other films in succession. Independent filmmaker Kelly Reichardt’s ‘Wendy and Lucy’ was shown on September 27 and 28, 2008, at the New York Film Festival and opened on December 10, 2008. Exclusive: The London-based producer has started talking to Hollywood agents about directors for Exit Point, a Base jumping action thriller written by Tom Williams (Chalet Girl) and award-winning Sunday Times journalist Ed Caesar. Constance Media hopes to shoot summer 2011 in the UK, France, Norway and United Arab Emirates. Naghdi is pitching this heist movie as “Man On Wire meets Point Break.” Base jumping is the extreme sport of jumping off a skyscraper wearing a parachute. Caesar’s original Sunday Times Magazine article told how two men broke into the tallest building in the world, the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, and base-jumped 155 floors down. Williams and Caesar are repped by Sean Gascoine at United Agents. Naghdi tells me: “Nobody’s done a Base jumping thriller before. When the Europeans do thrillers properly, we do them really well.” Naghdi used to be an entertainment lawyer at City law firm Bird & Bird, where his clients included Woody Allen.

...One: Musical Ewan
[photo src]
Moulin Rouge! may have showcased his vocal abilities to best and most acclaimed effect so far, but back in 1993 when he was starting out Ewan forswore the Suez Crisis for girls and guitars in Dennis Potter’s musical-drama TV throwback Lipstick on Your Collar. The first time I saw him in anything he was shrugging off clerk work and leaping on his desk in gold Elvis get-up miming to ‘Don’t Be Cruel’. And of course four years later the karaoke resurfaced in A Life Less Ordinary, where Ewan’s spontaneous serenading of Cameron Diaz was the only thing that wasn’t lifeless and ordinary. Belting out the tunes came second to his lascivious Iggy Pop-meets-Kurt Cobain routines in Velvet Goldmine, but he gamely sang every song himself. He’s an under-praised cinematic crooner – it’s one of his most dependable attributes.

Production Weekly is reporting this week that Michelle Williams (Wendy and Lucy, Brokeback Mountain) is in talks to play Marilyn Monroe in My Week with Marilyn. The project, which is under the helm of British TV vet Simon Curtis and producer David Parfitt, is based on the diary of Colin Clark, an employee of Sir Laurence Olivier in 1957. He was tasked to look after Monroe when she arrived in London to film The Prince and the Showgirl. In 1958, Clark published excerpts from his diary, leaving out the week with Ms. Monroe. Those entries were finally released in 2002, and have since been adapted into a feature-length story. Originally, Scarlett Johansson was set to play Monroe, leading to much fanfare around her potential wardrobe choices. As I'm sure we can all agree, there is a large segment of the population that would like to see her dolling out her various assets. With Williams, the...

Julia Roberts has yet to be surpassed. Back in September of last year I asked Who's the Next Big Male Movie Star? At the time Robert Pattinson Fever had spread all over the Internet and the conversation resulted in a wasted experiment as commenters weren't able to have a real debate. However, a few people did ask for a similar feature for the females and I have finally gotten around to putting it together. With the males the name I was looking at in comparison was Will "Guaranteed Box-Office Gold" Smith. With the females I was unable to come up with a name that lives up to the career Julia Roberts put together and she remained my muse. When Pretty Woman came out in 1990 Julia was 22-years-old and had just starred in and won a Golden Globe for Steel Magnolias. Over the following nine years she worked her way into...

In the latest chapter of his troubled odyssey through Hollywood, film financier David Bergstein is forming a new Los Angeles-based company that will be headed by former New Line theatrical distribution president David Tuckerman.
The unnamed venture will consolidate several of Bergstein's existing companies under one roof, combining elements of indie distributor ThinkFilm and U.K.-based film sales outfit Capitol Films.
In addition to Tuckerman -- a free agent since Warner Bros. shut down New Line's distribution operation -- Bergstein has been meeting with other L.A.-based execs about joining his new team. The future of ThinkFilm and its six-person New York office is bleak. ThinkFilm has operated without a president since Mark Urman departed for Senator Us on Oct. 1.
Bergstein did not return repeated calls, but according to sources familiar with the venture, the company would produce, acquire and distribute films -- from smaller documentaries, a ThinkFilm specialty,...

"Incendiary", the drama movie based on Chris Cleave's best selling novel, has got one of its international trailers exposed. Aimed for the U.K. viewers, the sneak peek into the London-based flick brings audience first to the marriage life and affair the lead character is having. Then, it displays how her world suddenly crumbles when terrorist attacks a football stadium where her husband and son are in.
Telling the story of a young mother whose life is forever changed by a terrorist attack, the Aramid Entertainment Fund flick follows this mother as she struggles to overcome her guilt and grief after the brutal death of her husband and son. It stars Michelle Williams, Ewan McGregor, Matthew Macfadyen and many others.
"Incendiary" was shot in various locations in London from the Northampton Square to the Brunswick Estate in Islington, North London. Targeted for 2008 released, the romantic drama is directed and penned by Sharon Maguire.

Though this bit of casting didn't work earlier this year for Deception, Ewan McGregor and Michelle Williams are back on for Incendiary, a film that debuted here in the states at Sundance.
Incendiary features the tag line, "The Truth Can Blow You Apart," which is fitting since Williams plays a woman whose husband and son are among the many victims of a bombing at a soccer match. Why wasn't she killed, too? Because she was busy sleeping with another guy.
Can you say guilt-ridden?
It's only after the explosion that she finds herself in a love triangle with McGregor and Matthew MacFadyen. So, we may have trouble rooting for her in this.
Here's a peculiar side note: This flick was directed by Sharon Maguire, her first film since Bridget Jones' Diary. Seems like an odd choice.

Incendiary opens in the UK on October 24th.

- I expect my last day at the 08' edition of the Sundance film festival to end in the wee hours of the morning as the fest organizers have announced the make up of the Premieres section and have chosen documentary (Csny DÉJÀ Vu) on gray-haired legends of folk music (Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young) as the fest's closing feature. As predicted by yours truly, Michel Gondry will show up once again in Park City this time with the geek comedy preem Be Kind Rewind, while a number of high profile pics such as The Great Buck Howard, What Just Happened? and Diminished Capacity will have buyers lining up the block - the upcoming actors' strike is a reality and this has many mid level indie distributors looking to add to their slate. Up for grabs we also find films littered with talent: Irish import The Escapist, The Deal (a
