Pathé may be one of France’s oldest film groups, but it is young at heart. The only French film company that is still fully involved in exhibition, production, distribution and sales, Pathé has been confronting the challenges wrought by the pandemic and the arrival of streamers with bold steps and ambitious new projects. During the Cannes Film Festival, the company will receive Variety’s Intl. Achievement in Film Award.
In the past two years, the family-owned film group, which is led by the visionary businessman Jérôme Seydoux, saw its “Coda” win three Oscars for family drama; greenlit the country’s biggest-budgeted movies in recent history, “Asterix and Obelix: The Middle Kingdom” (75 million) and the two-part adaptation of Alexandre Dumas’ masterpiece, “The Three Musketeers — D’Artagnan” and “The Three Musketeers — Milady” (75 million); it ventured into TV series; and forged bonds with streaming services, including Netflix and Apple TV+.

Spoiler Alert: This article contains spoilers for “Maggie,” the Season 1 finale of “The Afterparty,” which debuted on Apple TV Plus on March 4.
The stars of “The Afterparty” have been lying to their families.
That’s because the comedic whodunnit, which hails from director-showrunner Chris Miller and executive producer Phil Lord, established a strict rule of secrecy from Day 1. But after Friday’s finale revealed the killer to be Ben Schwartz’s Yasper, the cast can finally come clean to their loved ones, and hundreds of Reddit detectives can hang up their investigative hats.
“I’ve been semi-playing werewolf with everybody,” Schwartz tells Variety. “I still haven’t told my parents. My dad thinks it’s Maggie [Everly Carganilla], the little girl. My mom thinks it’s Walt [Jamie Demetriou]. My agents and managers don’t know because Chris told me not to tell anyone, and I’m very good at keeping secrets.

Netflix has acquired global rights to Hello, Goodbye, and Everything in Between, an upcoming YA rom-com based on Jennifer E. Smith’s 2015 novel of the same name, from Ace Entertainment, which produced all three films in its popular To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before franchise.
Michael Lewen’s feature directorial debut centers on Claire and Aidan, who after making a pact that they would break up before college, find themselves retracing the steps of their relationship on their last evening as a couple. The epic date leads them to familiar landmarks and unexpected places, and causes them to question whether high school love is meant to last. Jordan Fisher, Talia Ryder, Ayo Edebiri and Nico Hiraga star in the film, which is slated for release this summer.

FX boss John Landgraf famously said in 2015 that there is “simply too much television” and predicted that the industry would soon hit peak TV.
This, however, didn’t happen with his research team revealing that there were 559 original scripted series in 2021, a 5% rise on the pre-pandemic 2019 number.
Today, during his virtual TCA exec session, he admitted that he “I might have been woefully off on when the peak might occur” but added that he was right that peak TV was coming and that it would be “bewildering” for consumers.
His latest comments come as he talked up the company’s 19 new projects – including Under The Banner of Heaven, Pistol, The Bear, The Old Man, Alien, The Patient and Fleishman Is In Trouble – and its 11 returning shows including the final season of Atlanta and a fifth season of Fargo.

“Atlanta” is coming to an end with Season 4.
The announcement was made by FX boss John Landgraf during an executive session at FX’s TCA day on Thursday. It was previously known that the hit comedy series had shot Seasons 3 and 4 back to back, though it had not officially been confirmed that the series was coming to an end.
Season 3 will debut on March 24, with Season 4 set to air this fall, Landgraf said. Season 3 will stream the day after its linear debut on Hulu for the first time.

Exclusive, Spoiler Alert: Rudy Giuliani was unmasked as an exiting costumed contestant in last week’s taping of the first Season 7 episode of Fox’s popular primetime series The Masked Singer. Deadline hears that as soon as they saw Giuliani, judges Ken Jeong and Robin Thicke quickly left the stage in protest.
The show is known for its jaw-dropping surprises when celebrity contestants shed their headpieces after they are eliminated. The reaction to Giuliani was perhaps the most polarizing the show has seen since 2020. The Masked Singer faced criticism then when another controversial Republican politician, Sarah Palin, was unveiled as The Bear.
We aren’t revealing which costume Rudy wore or what his swan song was — his exit episode won’t air until next month — so you can still revel in his reveal. The theme of the new season is “The Good, The Bad and The Cuddly”; your political affiliation determines which category Giuliani fits.

Expenditure on screen production in Australia plunged by 18% in the financial year to June 2020, reflecting a near total shutdown of large-scale drama filming from March, due to the impact of the coronavirus and work from home regulations. Other strong HBO Max originals arriving in August include the documentary Class Action Park (release date Tbd), Seth Rogen-starring comedy An American Pickle (Aug. 6), and finales for I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, Doom Patrol, and Perry Mason.

For August 2020 that will almost certainly be Southern Gothic horror series Lovecraft Country. The J.J. Abrams and Jordan Peele-produced thriller arrives on August 14 on HBO and HBO Max.
Other strong HBO Max originals arriving in August include the documentary Class Action Park (release date Tbd), Seth Rogen-starring comedy An American Pickle (Aug. 6), and finales for I’ll Be Gone in the Dark, Doom Patrol, and Perry Mason.

The Son series finale makes a small revision to a tall tale to create a myth worthy of "The Legend."

The Son Season 2 Episode 10
The Son, season 2, episode 10, "The Legend," concludes the series' run with the birth of a border town mythology and the lessons learned from the sins of a father. The great state, and former republic, of Texas is a land of tall tales. Last week's episode, "The Bear," included a version of the ultimate fate which befell Eli McCullough, leading the audience to a false conclusion. Oh, we doubted the accuracy, how could anyone know what was going through Eli's mind in his last hours facing off against the biggest bear in a state where bears are scarce. But we ultimately buy it. It's Texas, and it is a large enough story to give us a sense of comforting closure.

The Son Season 2 Episode 9
The penultimate installment of The Son, season 2, episode 9, "The Bear," readies the series for a somewhat forgone conclusion. But the closure is coming like a set of pincers squeezing several wounds at once, and not all of them healing. All three generations of McCullough are in danger of facing change and loss of fortune. All three face choices which alter their comfort, even as they move out of their comfort zones.
The episode centers, emotionally, on Jeannie McCullough (Sydney Lucas). Last week, she witnessed her mother cheating on her father with their son's music teacher. The young McCullough ran away from home to escape a lying family only to barely escape a back road rape from a travelling salesman.

Gary Busey is pacing the studio at Rolling Stone‘s office, sing-shouting the lyrics to Buddy Holly’s “Not Fade Away.” He will do this often, without warning, in the middle of a conversation or just randomly as he sees fit, paying tribute to the rock pioneer who Busey considers a “spirit animal.” In Holly’s voice, it’s a confident ode to his eternal lover. For Busey, who’s long dabbled in music and whose recently released single is a cover of the 1957 song,...

Thaddeus Q. Mumford, a pioneering African-American TV writer-producer who worked on shows ranging from “Mash” to “The Electric Company” to “Blue’s Clues,” has died after a long illness. He was 67.
Mumford died Sept. 6 at his father’s home in Silver Spring, Md., according to his sister-in-law, Donna Coleman.
With his longtime writing partner Dan Wilcox, Mumford worked on the final three seasons of “Mash,” as well as such shows as “Maude,” “Good Times,” “Alf,” “B.J. and the Bear,” “Coach,” “The Cosby Show,” “A Different World,” “Home Improvement,” and “Judging Amy.”
Mumford was a quick wit who had a knack for coming up with jokes and punch lines. “He was incredibly fast with a fully formed joke,” Wilcox told Variety. “Sometimes you wondered where they came from.”
Wilcox recalled an episode of “Mash” in which David Ogden Stiers’ stuffy Major Charles Winchester character balks at trying acupuncture to treat his back pain.
