Before General Hospital‘s Rick Hearst ever starred in a daytime soap, he kicked off his career as the lead in a horror movie. Yes, before he was Scotty Banning on Days of Our Lives and Alan-Michael Spaulding on Guiding Light, he was Brian in a horror flick called Brain Damage. Brian and Brain — you see what they did there? Anyway, the movie was about a young man who wakes up to find that he has a disgusting little creature attached to his brain stem. Yikes.

Relax, relate, release. According to Variety, Netflix is developing a sequel series for the seminal sitcom A Different World. Details are scarce, but Variety says the project focuses on Dwayne (Kadeem Hardison) and Whitney’s (Jasmine Guy) daughter. On the project’s ground floor is writer and executive producer Felicia Pride, whose impressive list of work includes Grey’s Anatomy and Queen Sugar. Debbie Allen, Mandy Summers, Tom Werner, Gina Prince-Bythewood, and Reggie Bythewood join the effort as executive producers. Netflix will neither confirm nor deny the project’s status.
A Different World ran for six seasons from 1987 to 1993 and revolved around a group of students at a historically Black university. The show focuses on their struggles and up-and-coming youths in a world trying to keep pace with their radical ideas and worldview. The show is a spinoff of The Cosby Show, with Lisa Bonet’s Denise Huxtable leading the cast.

The creature feature, at its most basic, is simply a horror movie in which a monster plays a prominent role as the primary antagonist; the term says it all. It’s the creature part that’s loose for interpretation, of course. A creature feature could be anything from carnivorous aliens from space to manmade monsters to genetically altered animals run amok.
This week’s streaming picks highlight creature features from the glorious age of practical effects: the ’80s. These five horror titles run the gamut in tone, style, and creature, showcasing just how nebulous and varied the creature feature can be. Whether you’re in the mood for quirky parasites with personality or lust that turns monstrous, these ’80s creature features go big on practical effects. Here’s where you can stream them this week.

To celebrate the release of Basket Case on Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray available from 29th April, we have a Limited Edition 4K Ultra HD Blu-Ray to give away to a lucky winner!
The feature debut of director Frank Henenlotter, 1982’s Basket Case is a riotous and blood-spattered “midnight movie” experience, now presented for the first time ever on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.
Duane Bradley seems like a pretty ordinary guy. His formerly conjoined twin Belial, on the other hand, is a deformed creature who lives in a wicker basket. Arriving in the Big Apple and taking up a room at a seedy hotel, the pair set about hunting down and butchering the surgeons responsible for their separation.
Filmed on a shoestring budget against the backdrop of 1980s New York (where it played on the midnight movie circuit for over two-and-a-half years), Basket Case has clawed its way from...

Stars: Charlee Danielson, Anthony Sneed, Remedy, Tom Kohut, James Shell, Vivian Sanchez, R.A. The Rugged Man, Ginger Starr, J-Zone | Written and Directed by Frank Henenlotter
Director Frank Henenlotter is a cult horror legend. But after making the cult classics Basket Case, Brain Damage, Basket Case 2, Frankenhooker and finally, Basket Case 3, he disappeared. After 17 years in 2008, he returned and made another film, the black comedy (kinda) body horror Bad Biology. And now, almost another 17 years later again, Bad Biology is getting a 4K Uhd release from Severin Films.
Bad Biology, like the director’s previous work, is not a movie you’ll easily forget:
Driven by biological excess, a man and a woman search for sexual fulfilment, unaware of each other’s existence. Unfortunately, they eventually meet, and the bonding of these two very unusual human beings ends in a god awful love story.

Pink Floyd have released a remaster of their magnum opus The Dark Side of the Moon, out now via Pink Floyd/Warner Music.
The polished-up edition of the album was originally released back in March with The Dark Side of the Moon 50th Anniversary Box Set, but this is the first time that the standalone Dark Side remaster is available on its own. Pressed on vinyl, CD, and Blu-ray formats, the physical package comes equipped with postcards, stickers, and a 24-page booklet commemorating the record, which Consequence recently crowned one of the greatest albums of all time.
Notably, Pink Floyd’s Dark Side remaster arrives just a week after embattled ex-member Roger Waters shared The Dark Side of the Moon Redux, a track-by-track re-recording of the album on his own terms. He teased it with some — ahem — interesting versions of “Time” and “Money.”

Controversial artist Roger Waters is back with a controversial new release: a re-recording of Pink Floyd’s The Dark Side of the Moon, made without the involvement of any of the other members of Pink Floyd. Listen to The Dark Side of the Moon Redux below via Apple Music or Spotify.
Beyond giving Waters the opportunity to one-up his estranged bandmates, re-recording one of the most famous albums of all time appeared to give the artist a chance to update its message for modern times, with a matured perspective. “The original Dark Side of the Moon feels in some ways like the lament of an elder being on the human condition,” Waters said in a statement. “But Dave [Gilmour], Rick [Wright], Nick [Mason], and I were so young when we made it, and when you look at the world around us, clearly the message hasn’t stuck. That’s why I started...

Greatness recognizes greatness. For example, Elvis Presley‘s daughter, Lisa Marie Presley, discussed why she loved one Pink Floyd album so much. She said one song from that record was her “Bible.” In addition, she named other tunes from the record that she enjoyed.
Lisa Marie Presley said 1 Pink Floyd album resonated with her as a ‘tormented teen’
During a 2012 interview with Goldmine, Lisa Marie was asked to name the albums that impacted her when she was young. “The Wall by Pink Floyd would be my No. 1 album that was very defining heading into being 13-14 years of age, an anguished, tormented teen with hormones going,” she recalled. “Angry and not knowing what I was angry about. You know, the feeling of ‘Nobody understands me.'” For context, The Wall came out in 1979, two years after Elvis’ death.

Actor Sung Kang is most widely known for playing fan-favorite Han in the Fast & Furious franchise, among other roles outside of horror, including a voice role in Disney’s Raya and the Last Dragon. That he chose gateway horror Shaky Shivers for his feature directorial debut might seem unconventional. However, after speaking with the filmmaker, the charming tale of friendship among zombies and cryptids quickly reveals itself as the perfect vehicle for his debut.
Shaky Shivers stars Brooke Markham (In the Dark) and VyVy Nguyen (The Sympathizer) as Lucy and Karen, best friends grappling with a potential werewolf curse. With snobby customers, zombies, cryptids, and more, the friends have their hands full this summer.
With Shaky Shivers releasing in theaters for one-night-only on September 21 from Fathom Events, Bloody Disgusting spoke with Kang about his first outing in the director’s seat; specifically, why the actor-turned-director chose this horror-comedy script.

If Pearl Jam’s surprise-filled setlist from the opening show of their 2023 tour didn’t already suggest a special run was incoming, they confirmed it on night two with a bust-out of Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” for the first time since 2010.
On Saturday, Pearl Jam hosted their second consecutive concert at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul, Minnesota and delivered the long-dormant cover mid-set. As Vedder began to play the song’s opening notes, he laughed and said offhandedly “I’m losing my mind,” but gathered himself up quite well to perform a haunting, solo rendition before leading into the band’s 2002 single, “I Am Mine.” Watch fan-captured footage of “Brain Damage” below.
Elsewhere in the set, the band dusted off 2006’s “Severed Hand” and 2009’s “Got Some,” both for the first time in five years. They also covered Tom Petty’s “I Won’t Back Down” and...

Pink Floyd had one of the great resurrection stories in classic rock. Founder, guitarist, and chief songwriter Syd Barrett’s creative genius put the band on the map. His deteriorating mental health led his bandmates to move on without him. Barrett crashed Pink Floyd’s recording sessions for Wish You Were Here, but that happened years after he unexpectedly showed up at the studio while his former band made another record.
Syd Barrett crashed Pink Floyd’s sessions for ‘Atom Heart Mother’
Barrett enjoyed the benefits of Pink Floyd’s success for roughly a year before the band moved on without him. The Mapcap received royalty checks for his early contributions but had nothing to do with Floyd’s most successful era. Or almost nothing to do with their commercial peak. They made a legitimate claim to the classic rock throne in the 1970s, but Pink Floyd’s discography spanned decades. Many listeners misunderstood their biggest hit, and while the songs might be open to interpretation, the order of Pink Floyd’s albums is set and stone.
The five Pink Floyd members created 15 studio albums
Aside from a few early concerts, Pink Floyd only operated as a quartet. Still, the shadow of Syd Barrett loomed over the band for years, even after they moved on without him.
Barrett put Pink Floyd on the map as the singer, primary songwriter, and lead guitarist. He and bandmates Roger Waters (bass), Richard Wright (keyboards), and Nick Mason (drums) established themselves as the flagship band for psychedelic underground London in 1967. By the end of the year, Barrett was already on the path toward his post-Floyd life.

Roger Waters, would rather re-record old Pink Floyd music than reunite with the band’s surviving members for a new tour. As such, on October 6th he’ll release his solo re-recording of the band’s seminal 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon. Today, he’s previewing (Roger’s Version) with the album’s lead single, his version of “Money.”
Waters produced the LP, titled The Dark Side of the Moon Redux along with Gus Seyffert, and recorded the tracks with a studio band comprising Seyffert, Joey Waronker, Jonathan Wilson, Johnny Shepherd, and Jon Carin. Notably, the other members of Pink Floyd who helped to create the original, including David Gilmour and Nick Mason, do not appear on the recordings.

One of the quintessential drive in kinda guys to me is Frank Henenlotter. Not only because of the anointing from the patron saint of Drive-ins himself, Joe Bob Briggs, but also just from a horror core memory. That’s the magical part about being a horror fan. My brothers weren’t even particularly fond of the first movie, but knew it was an important piece of independent horror cinema. After more than three decades, Frank Henenlotter’s putrid parable for drug addiction hits harder than ever with tons of self-aware bite.
“Splatstick” is an exaggerated horror subgenre that explores grotesque gore that’s so over the top that it begins to border on the point of comedy. Sam Raimi, Peter Jackson, and even more contemporary voices in horror like Sion Sono or Terrifier’s Damien Leone are names that are often associated with this bold, bloody genre. Frank Henenlotter is a pivotal name in splatstick low-budget indie horror whose work often goes overlooked, despite its decidedly more outlandish energy. Henenlotter’s greatest claim to fame is his Basket Case trilogy, but it’s Brain Damage that’s actually the deepest film in his oeuvre.
All of Henenlotter’s horror films have very obvious analogues and they aren’t especially deep in their subtext, but there’s still subtext all the same.

Pink Floyd’s Dark Side of the Moon was announced in 1973 at a press conference held at the London Planetarium, a spectral site which mirrored the album cover’s beam of light refracted through a triangle into a rainbow. Perhaps the iconic prismatic image provided the initial idea for fans to sync the classic film The Wizard of Oz (1939) to the album’s rock soundscape.
The band’s history with movies is vast and varied. They scored films in the aftermath of the demise and departure of the band’s founder, Syd Barrett. The success of Dark Side of the Moon also helped the group become motion picture producers, investing in the 1975 comedy Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The Wall, directed by Alan Parker and starring Bob Geldof, pushed boundaries and redefined a rock opera on film. And while the bassist/vocalist/songwriter Roger Waters didn’t let Stanley Kubrick...

The upcoming “Clone High” reboot is headed to HBO Max, which will also host a slew of new and returning adult animated television shows.
WarnerMedia announced HBO Max had ordered two seasons of “Clone High,” a third season of “Close Enough,” as well as two new original series titled “Velma” and “Fired on Mars” during a virtual panel at the Television Critics Association 2021 Winter Press Tour. The titles will significantly bulk up HBO Max’s slate of adult animated shows, which have become increasingly popular on streaming services in recent years.

Two years after John Ireland (“All the King’s Men”) became the first supporting Oscar nominee to deliver a longer performance than a lead nominee from the same film (Broderick Crawford) in 1949, Kim Hunter (“A Streetcar Named Desire”) did the same versus Marlon Brando. Since then, nine more Best Supporting Actress nominees have had higher screen time totals than a co-star nominated in a lead rce. Here is a look at each instance, in order from lowest screen time difference to highest.
1961: Mary Ure (“Sons and Lovers”) – 21 minutes, 4 seconds
0 minutes, 50 seconds over Trevor Howard
Although she is absent from nearly all of the first half of “Sons and Lovers,” Ure still manages to appear in over 20% of the film. Up to that point, less than half of all Best Supporting Actress-nominated performances had reached that mark. Howard’s performance, on the other hand, did not reach that percentage, but he received a lead nomination regardless.

There’s no shortage of amazing stuff in the first trailer for Denis Villeneuve’s Dune, the much anticipated new adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic sci-fi novel. While the film has been brought to the screen once before, in the hands of David Lynch (who infamously took his name off it in favor of the pseudonymous Alan Smithee), the beloved book has never been given a truly faithful adaptation.
From the looks of that trailer, that’s going to change in Villenueve’s capable hands. Here’s that trailer in case you haven’t seen it yet…
Now, about that mysterious chanting that then reveals itself as a song…
What you’re hearing is a brand new Hans Zimmer arrangement of Pink Floyd’s “Eclipse” which is the final song on their famed Dark Side of the Moon album. “Eclipse” is almost never heard without its partner song, “Brain Damage...

Though it’s yet to launch in the UK and other parts of Europe, Disney+ has already proven itself to be a major player in North America – thanks in large part to its suite of digital content, which ranges from Marvel Studios to Star Wars and everything in between.
And much like its online peers, Disney+ is still to roll out a fresh wave of content for April 2020, beginning with Doctor Dolittle on April 1st – not to be confused with the recent remake starring McU mainstay Robert Downey Jr.
What’s more, April marks Earth Month, so you can expect plenty of eco-friendly documentaries to air via National Geographic. Indeed, it’s fair to say that the Disney+ lineup has fast become one of the most diverse on the market. From new episodes of Star Wars: The Clone Wars to age-old classics like Doctor Dolittle, there’s really something for everyone.

I don’t think it’s much of a secret that right now, there is a lot of uncertainty in the world, and I’m not sure how you’re feeling, but this writer could use a little levity in her life right about now. February’s home media releases are an exceptional bunch, led by Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep adaptation, which is headed to a variety of formats, including 4K Ultra HD. In terms of other recent genre titles making their way to Blu-ray and DVD this Tuesday, horror fans will undoubtedly want to add Rabid (2019), Daniel Isn’t Real, The House That Jack Built, and Mon Mon Mon Monsters! to their collections as well.
We also have a few older titles that are making their way to Blu this week, including Frank Henenlotter’s Brain Damage and Evil Ed, and if you somehow don’t already own them, both the original Halloween and Halloween (2018) are being released on Blu as a double feature from Universal Studios Home Entertainment.
Other notable home media titles arriving on February 4th include The Nightingale, Perfect, Ouija Room, Restricted Access, and 10/31 Part II.

Welcome back for another installment of “From Streams to Screams,” everyone! Before HBO aired the series finale of “Game of Thrones” Sunday night, it bombarded us with a bunch of trailers and promos to remind us, “Hey, we’ve got other shows too!” One of those trailers probably had you thinking in its first minute, “Hmm, this new Aaron Paul show looks interesting. I do watch this Aaron Paul show!” That’s because this Aaron Paul show is “Westworld,” and that Season 3 teaser is here to tell us that this ain’t our grandma’s “Westworld” anymore.
Backed by Pink Floyd‘s “Brain Damage,” the new footage reveals a whole new (west)world in Season 3. Gone is the robo-Western fantasy park of the first two seasons; here now is a more conventional futuristic, tech-savvy setting, still populated with robots. Plus, Sad Aaron Paul searching for purpose, meaning, “something, someone real,” you know the drill.

HBO has released the first teaser for “Westworld” Season 3, giving fans their first look at series newcomers Aaron Paul and Lena Waithe — and our first real taste of what the real world looks like.
The 1-minute, 40-second clip, which HBO dropped just ahead of the series finale of “Game of Thrones,” is set to Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” also shows us Paul and Waithe’s fellow newcomers Scott Mescudi, and Marshawn Lynch, as well as the return of Evan Rachel Wood as Dolores.
And of course the video gives us more questions than answers about where things will go when we leave Westworld (and all the other Delos Destinations) and venture into the real world for season 3. Like, for instance, who is Paul playing and what is his relationship to Dolores going to be?

In case you thought “Game of Thrones” was the only big-budget epic HBO had to offer, the first trailer for “Westworld” Season 3 is here to remind you otherwise. Dropping as the “GoT” finale premiered, the first footage of Season 3 puts new cast member Aaron Paul front and center — and everyone else is missing.
Everyone, that is, except for Evan Rachel Wood. In pain and angry, Dolores emerges from the darkness at the very end of the first spot (below). Before that, Paul’s unnamed new character is seen scouring an advanced, futuristic city (not unlike the one Dolores was seen visiting during Season 2 flashbacks). Sitting on a beam above the urban jungle with a robot, one thing is clear: We’re far from the Old West now.

Aaron Paul navigates a strange, “rotting” world in the very first teaser for Season 3 of HBO’s Westworld.
In the first, jarringly unfamiliar footage from the new season (premiering in… 2020), Paul’s character delivers a rather maudlin narration, while Pink Floyd’s “Brain Damage” plays in the background and we get glimpses of a world outside the park.
At the very end, just as Paul’s character talks of needing to find “something, someone real,” who does he lay eyes upon but Evan Rachel Wood’s weary Dolores, heh.

Joseph Campbell, author of the seminal The Hero with a Thousand Faces, details a plotting device called “the hero’s journey.” Look at any number of films, past and present, and you can find this character structure utilized in some form, especially in the cinematic world of the superhero. It’s a technique that has been done to death, but when implemented properly, or when twisted in a new direction, can have satisfying effects.
This “hero’s journey” may apply to heroic characters like Captain America or Superman, however, oftentimes the qualities associated with the “hero’s journey” shackle the characters to a moral code. When these characters start breaking away from the heroic descriptive terms that define them, they often fall into a characterization of being an “antihero”; characters like Deadpool, Mad Max, or The Man with No Name are examples.

When I think of cult filmmakers, one of the first names to burst from my brainpan is Frank Henenlotter. From Basket Case (1982) to Bad Biology (2008), his horror films are always loaded with qualities that elude mainstream appeal, such as bizarre humor, over the top gore, and a crazy circus geek aesthetic that almost dares you to look away. Speaking of splattering cranium matter, his second feature length film, Brain Damage (1988) checks off all the Henenboxes and even one more – a trenchant social message about addiction (if you want it).
Produced by Palisades Partners and given a limited release in April, Brain Damage was Henenlotter’s long awaited follow up to Basket Case; well, long awaited at least for horror fans of that legendary micro budget wonder. While the ultra low budget of that gem gave it a unique and gritty charm, Brain Damage’s considerably deeper pockets allowed Henenlotter to...

Westworld Season 3 is to be "a whole new world." And now we know it won't look like the past two seasons.
Violent delights may have violent ends, but Westworld’s enticements are in no danger of being cut off from their source, even after an aborted robo-apocalypse in the park of dreams turned it into a nightmare. Which is happy news for us, cowboy. Westworld Season 3 was confirmed early during the second season's run. And we're getting intriguing new teases about it to this day.
Westworld is adopting quite new look for season 3 with huge casting changes and a big setting migration. Here is everything we know about Westworld season 3.

One of my favorite silent films (featuring the iconic vampire Count Orlok), F.W. Murnau's Nosferatu (1922) will be the subject of a special restoration lecture on April 19th in London courtesy of The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies. In today's Horror Highlights, we also have details on retrospective screenings of Frank Henenlotter's films in Brooklyn, as well as an exciting announcement from the 2018 Telluride Horror Show.
The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies' Nosferatu Lecture: "The Miskatonic Institute of Horror Studies - London Presents: A Restoration Of ‘Nosferatu’ (1922) at The Horse Hospital April 19th!
The Miskatonic Institute Horror Studies - London welcomes Watchmaker Films founder Mark Rance to discuss the process and importance of film restoration while putting a spotlight on his challenging work on the Nosferatu release.
This show-and-tell lecture will illustrate many of the issues encountered and (with varying degrees of success) resolved in a digital restoration of Murnau’s Nosferatu.
