Tom and Pippa Fletcher are a couple who, unable to have children of their own, foster five children and take off for the lazy beach community of Summer Bay. The children are a lively bunch which causes much conflict and general family feuding between each other and their foster parents.

The Fletchers settle into Summer Bay, which means finding jobs and drumming up business, but Carly is more interested in attracting Matt's attention.

Sally, Carly, Steven and Lynn are attending school in Summer Bay for the first time, whilst Bobby also returns to school, after having her expulsion overturned, eager to avoid trouble.

Carly can't stop dwelling over the accident she caused. Alf plans a romantic dinner to make up for disappointing Ailsa.

Drowning their sorrows with beer, Martin and Lance decide to get even with Fisher, not realising that he's gotten their jobs back.

Tom confronts Carly's father over his $7,000 payment to relieve Carly's debt. Sally acquires a new friend on the way to school. Celia spills the beans to Roo about Alf and Ailsa's romantic dinner.

Tom's resolve is tested when Sally and Lynn team up to convince him to keep the dog. Tom and Pippa interrogate Carly to try to ascertain how she persuaded her father to pay her debt.

Alf gives Tom an idea to solve his dog problem. Floss reconsiders her decision to abandon tarot readings.

With Eric having swallowed a bait, Tom and Pippa are faced with a tough call.

The Fletchers scour the neighbourhood for a runaway Lynn. Tom gains employment on a road crew much to Carly's embarrassment.

Lynn continues to bond with her new friend Nico, encouraging him to stand up to his Gran.

Lynn thinks Nico is a drug addict like her mother, so she persuades him to stop taking his anger management medication. Frank decides to start up a band and finds a surprise lead singer.

Tom is frustrated by the boredom and limitations of his job. Sally mounts a poster campaign to try and find Lynn.

The Fletchers get a lead on Lynn's whereabouts leading to a confrontation on the Pappas farm.

Fisher and Celia campaign to have Nico sent to a mental health facility, believing him to be a danger to the townsfolk.

Triumphant after catching Bobby red-handed in front of vandalised school property, Fisher can't help but celebrate the prospect of seeing her charged. Tom attempts to use his charm to change Celia's mind about Nico.

Pippa's pregnancy news brings joy and worry for the Fletcher family. Neville introduces Sally to his bagpipe "friend" Mr. Haggis.

With Alf having discovered about Frank and Roo's secret rendezvous, both Frank and Roo spark into damage control. Neville's on the warpath to find the culprit who slashed his bagpipes.

Upon hearing of Fisher's petition against Nico, Lance and Martin decide this could be yet another opportunity to make him pay. Sally is set to go on the run to evade Neville's wrath.

Lance and Martin suggest to Nico that Fisher might appreciate some manure for his lawn. Devastated by Alf's news of his impromptu proposal, Roo seeks Celia's support.

With their manipulation of Nico having started a catastrophic series of events, Lance and Martin do their best to hide from Alf's wrath. Lynn is devastated at the news that Nico will be sent back to the asylum.

Roo breaks into Ailsa's hoping to find evidence that will cause Alf to cancel the engagement. Lynn visits Nico at the asylum.

Floss surprises Neville by bringing Ben home to stay for the weekend.

With Ben having discovered the photos of his father, Floss and Neville are forced to reveal the truth. Steven decides he needs to intervene to help Sandra.

Steven puts his plan to prove Sam Barlow is the poisoner into action. Lance and Martin find a stray cat.

Having warmed up to his grandson, Neville begs Floss to let Ben stay another day. Steven realizes his interfering has made things worse for Sandra.

Excited by Sally's news that she could choose her own foster parents, Ben decides he'd prefer Floss and Neville to be parents. Sam Barlow threatens the Fletcher family.
