Based on the book by Roal Dahl this is a musical about the boy Jimmy that lives with two evil family members on a remote shore. Jimmy wants to escape so he goes on an adventure an an stop motion figure with his bug friends, as they must face many dangers before they end up in New York city while the two evil women somehow crossed from UK to NYC in their car across the ocean. The pirate scene has many hidden Mickeys, and seems to be some of the ideas for the Pirates of the Caribbean movies a decade later. While made in the mid 1990s the animation is outstanding from the stop motion to the box made New York City. It is a good movie to watch with the family on Halloween but like Selick and Burtons movies this is not for all, as this movie was up against many classic summer Blockbusters like Indepence Day.
