After four years off the air, “Atlanta” returned to FX with a darkly comedic episode that reminded viewers to expect the unexpected.
As the show began to air on the east coast Thursday night, stars Donald Glover, Zazie Beetz, Lakeith Stanfield and Brian Tyree Henry posed together on the electric blue carpet at Hollywood Forever Cemetery.
Glover told Variety what thrilled him most about being reunited. “I think being away made me realize how much I missed hanging out and writing with them,” he said.
The Los Angeles screening followed the show’s SXSW premiere, but when the foursome linked arms and stood before the abstract images of their characters’ faces, a clearer picture of the show’s legacy came into focus. “Atlanta” itself is abstract art that paints with such broad strokes and bright colors that it’s impossible to characterize and leaves audiences slightly off-balance at every turn.

FX's "Atlanta" is known for its tonal short-story format. The series centers around characters Earn (Donald Glover), Alfred/Paper Boi (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (Lakeith Stanfield), and Van (Zazie Beetz), but it also sprinkles in other stories drawn from real-life events. "Atlanta"'s double-header season three premiere, which aired on March 24, features a plot inspired by the tragic stories of Georgia's infamous Lake Lanier and the Hart family murders.
The season's first episode, "Three Slaps," opens with an eerie conversation between a Black man and white man on a boat in the middle of a lake, as the latter recalls the history of Lake Lanier. His story sets the Black man up to be attacked by hands coming out of the lake - before a Black kid, Loquareeous (Christopher Farrar), wakes up from what seems like a nightmare.

You can take the characters out of Atlanta, but you can’t take the Atlanta out of the characters. As FX’s critical darling “Atlanta” returns for its third season, filmed and set almost entirely in Europe, that’s an important concept to remember. Earn (Donald Glover), Alfred (Brian Tyree Henry), Darius (Lakeith Stanfield), and Van (Zazie Beetz) may be thousands of miles away from Atlanta, but the series makes clear from the jump that the titular spirit is still present. Perhaps even more so, as the series’ characters deal with being fish out of water in an international setting.
When “Atlanta” Season 2 ended back in 2018 Alfred (aka rapper Paper Boi) was on his way to Europe as the opening act for successful rapper Clark County, with cousin/manager Earn and best friend Darius in tow. Season 3 takes place approximately a year later, as Paper Boi is now headlining his own,...

Donald Glover never does press like a conventional actor. So when he arrived at the Paramount Theater in Austin on Saturday night for the SXSW premiere of “Atlanta” Season 3, he turned the camera on his audience.
It was actually a disposable camera he had in his hand, and he used the retro gadget to snap shots of the reporters waiting to interview him.
“Someone left this in my room! I have no idea what’s on it. I could be in big trouble!” he giggled.
Austin was eager to get the full picture about Seasons 3 and 4, which were shot in tandem and recently announced to be the final installations of the show. Glover, who created “Atlanta” and stars as Earnest “Earn” Marks, didn’t mince words about the decision to wrap things up.
“All good things end. It felt like it was time to end,” he said on the red carpet.

“I just kept thinking, why isn’t anyone stopping us? Why didn’t anyone stop us?”
Amber (Laura Dreyfuss) is addressing her wife (Jamie Neumann), deep into a scheme that has spiraled beyond either one of these two white women’s control. On their way to the madness of this moment, they’ve demonstrated both a powerful and shocking inhumanity and the grim whimsicality of racism – the manner in which new rules can be created by the people in charge breezily, as if for their own amusement.
This is, and is not, “Atlanta.” The show, returning to the air for the first time since 2018, has jettisoned its cast for this installment, stepping outside the plot to tell a story of startling power. Leave it to “Atlanta” to return after nearly four years off with an episode featuring effectively none of its ensemble cast, save for a brief appearance by Donald Glover...

"You in football country now!" Netflix has revealed the official trailer for Home Team, the next comedy produced by Sandler's Happy Madison for Netflix. So, uh, get ready for this... The story about New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton coaching his son's 6th grade football team, when Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 season as a result of his role in the Saints' Bountygate scandal. So this is pretty much the plot of The Mighty Ducks, but with a youth football team. And a real coach. The cast features Kevin James as Coach Payton, plus Taylor Lautner, Rob Schneider, Jackie Sandler, Gary Valentine, Tait Blum, Maxwell Simkins, Jacob Perez, Bryant Tardy, Manny Magnus, Liam Kyle, Christopher Farrar, Merek Mastrov, and Isaiah Mustafa. Yeah this looks as cheesy and bland as you're probably expecting. Here's the trailer (+ poster) for Charles Francis Kinnane & Daniel Kinnane's Home Team, from YouTube:...

“Home Team,” a Netflix film that stars Kevin James as New Orleans Saints coach Sean Payton, has announced its full cast, including new additions Taylor Lautner and Rob Schneider.
Payton revealed that Netflix was making a movie about his life last month, and the film centers on Payton in 2012 when the coach was suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goddell for the entire 2012 season related to the team’s role in the “Bountygate” scandal, in which the team was accused of paying out bounties or bonuses to players who successfully injured opposing team players.
