Aamil Keeyan Khan is an Indian actor, screenwriter, and filmmaker. Born in Jamshedpur and raised in Kolkata, Khan grew up in a middle-class family with a working father and a homemaker mother. Khan's artistic journey began in school, where he excelled in stand-up comedy and intense dramatic roles, winning his first Best Actor award at Rangotsav - A Theatre Festival at the age of 17. His talent in stand-up comedy led him to the Great Indian Laughter Challenge in 2008. However, his true passion lay in acting and storytelling, prompting him to form his theatre group, Nine Point Blank, in 2009. Due to financial constraints, he also took on the roles of writer and director, honing his skills in the process.
In 2012, Khan decided to pursue a career in film. After four years of struggle in Kolkata, he moved to Mumbai in 2016, where he continued to face challenges while working various jobs, including editing documentary films and directing commercials. Notably, he wrote, edited, and directed a commercial for ICAI featuring Boman Irani. His persistence paid off when he got his break as a screenwriter with the film "Runway 34," in which he also made a debut in a cameo.
Following the critical acclaim of "Runway 34," Khan worked on "Drishyam 2," which grossed INR 345 crore worldwide and becoming the second highest-grossing Hindi film of 2022. His contributions to "Drishyam 2" earned him an IIFA Award and a nomination for Best Screenplay at the Zee Cine Awards.
In 2023, Khan wrote the screenplay for "Bholaa," followed by "Shaitaan" in 2024, which earned significant box office success, grossing over INR 211 crore worldwide against an estimated budget of INR 60-65 crore, making it the fourth highest-grossing Indian film of 2024 and the highest-grossing Indian horror film of all time.
Khan's notable early works in theatre include plays such as "Samay," a paranormal drama thriller, and "Ahlyat," an edge-of-the-seat thriller that ran for four years. His transition to films has been marked by his versatility and dedication to storytelling.
In addition to his screenwriting and acting prowess, Khan is a master of mimicry and enjoys playing the harmonium and piano. He is an avid fan of horror films.
