No, that’s not a typo, for their latest mockbuster, The Twisters the folks at The Asylum simply added “The” to the title of the film they’re cashing in on. That’s a pretty ballsy move even for them, and since I haven’t heard of any lawsuits being filed, they seem to have gotten away with it, much like they did simply tacking an “s” onto the end of The Exorcist and releasing The Exorcists a few months ago.
This time out, the film begins as a tornado is about to take out Topeka, Kansas. Nobody but Dr. James Garland knows. He knows because his new predictive algorithm, code-named Tina, told him so. But, the weather is clear and sunny so nobody, least of all his boss Dr.

Those mockbuster makers at The Asylum are at it again. When the first live-action Transformers movie was released back in 2007, The Asylum got in on the giant robot action by releasing a movie called Transmorphers. The Transformers sequel Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen followed in 2009 – so The Asylum responded with the Transmorphers prequel Transmorphers: Fall of Man. Since then, the Transformers franchise has continued to grow. There was Transformers: Dark of the Moon in 2011, Transformers: Age of Extinction in 2014, Transformers: The Last Knight in 2017, and the spin-off prequel Bumblebee in 2018. Another prequel, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts, is in theatres right now. And while The Asylum has let several Transformers movies come and go without meeting them with a Transmorphers mockbuster, this year they’re finally reviving the franchise with Transmorphers: Mech Beasts! You can watch the film’s trailer in the embed above.

Murder Syndicate opens with Isa driving her car and dealing with her three squabbling offspring, Cain, Becca and Jonah.
But this isn’t some suburban soccer mom taking her kids to school. She’s the head of a criminal syndicate and they’re professional assassins on the way to a job. A job that almost fails when Isa mysteriously collapses. Isa’s boyfriend Zane turns up in time to get them to safety but it’s obvious something is wrong. And that sign of weakness at the top sets a battle for control of the operation into motion.
Writer/director Michael Matteo Rossi gives Murder Syndicate one of the more unusual openings for a mob thriller but quickly gets back into familiar territory with a burst of action...

The original Don’t F*ck in the Woods was something of a viral sensation upon its release, thanks to both a successful crowdfunding campaign and That title. So, if a movie opens with a cut throat, followed by an 8-bit video game style opening beneath the screams of punk rock… erm… count me in!
The 80s inspirations of Pool Party Massacre are evident from the outset. It never takes itself too seriously. It’s part comedy and part schlocky horror, and it’s a pile of fun. I’ve heard people mention it being like an 1980s slasher meshed with a Mean Girls type high school flick, and I can see why. It has funny and ridiculous dialogue, practical and over-the-top gore and a plot that doesn’t do anything new yet is paced well and hits the spot. I think many...
