There is something quite creepy about getting lost in the woods. The filmmaking duo Celine Held and Logan George add something unique to that trippy and intriguing story. Caddo Lake stars Dylan O’Brien, Eliza Scanlen, and Diana Hopper. The film explores the disappearance of an 8-year-old girl and the lives it affects. To say too much might be a disservice, as there is much to admire here. All the performances are terrific, but Dylan O’Brien and Eliza Scanlen who stand out in this complex and grounded tale. The two are exceptional, and given the impressive script, it offers both much to work with.
I first interviewed Dylan O’Brien during the press tour of one of the Maze Runner features. He was awesome to interview and has only gotten better. Since then, we’ve spoken often (we just interviewed him about his work in Saturday Night), and frankly, we...

M. Night Shyamalan certainly has been busy this year pushing out his signature brand of twisty thrillers. So far in 2024 we have had his daughter’s directorial effort, The Watchers, which he produced; the intriguing modest hit Trap, which stars another daughter and which he directed and produced; and now Caddo Lake, which is being heavily advertised as from “Producer M. Night Shyamalan.” Set for a streaming debut on Max starting Thursday rather than going theatrical like the rest of his feature output, the pic unmistakably fits right into his own filmography, even if he turned over writing and directing reins to the team of Celine Held and Logan George.
Actually this one went into production exactly three years ago under the title The Vanishing at Caddo Lake — while Shyamalan still was working his now-wrapped Apple TV+ series Servant, which happens to be a key credit for his filmmakers here...

Set along the murky waters dividing Texas and Louisiana lies Caddo Lake, a true crime mystery bringing a sense of place rarely seen. Directed by Celine Held and Logan George in 2024, the film finds inspiration in the real Caddo Lake area, a landscape as hauntingly beautiful as it is little understood. With acclaimed director M. Night Shyamalan among its producers, this Max original promises a mix of genres blurring the lines between drama, thriller, and something more supernatural.
Our story centers on that remote body of water and those whose lives are forever changed by its depths. Paris and Ellie are two souls adrift, both nursing private wounds and lingering questions that will lead them to cross paths in the vast swampland.
For Paris, the loss of his mother under mysterious circumstances still claws at his insides years later. As for fiery Ellie, her family’s fractured bonds and the...

Strange things are happening at Caddo Lake. Drought-induced shallow waters exposes a series of past deaths and disappearances, forever altering a broken family’s history in the mysterious new genre thriller from writer/director team Celine Held & Logan George (“Servant”). What begins as a mysterious Southern thriller centered around a missing child quickly gives way to a mind-bending, twisty sci-fi film with an intense emotional center. Though impressive for its meticulous plotting and intricate tangled knots, the genre thriller struggles with its dual story structure.
An intense flashback sequence that follows the lethal aftermath of a car crashing into Caddo Lake, a small bayou town on the border of Texas and Louisiana, introduces the lead character Paris (Love and Monster‘s Dylan O’Brien). The solemn young man works in the bayou, still dazed and traumatized by the shocking loss of his mother in that crash. It’s deeply fractured his...

It’s not just the water that’s murky out on Caddo Lake. Death and disappearance abound in the swamp cypress labyrinth dividing East Texas and Louisiana, but without excitement or dread. Rather, this thriller’s incidents occur only to build up to a clarifying “ah-ha” moment, which occurs between several ho-hum moments.

After ending last month with Lisa Brühlmann’s female coming-of-age tale Blue My Mind (listen), we’ve spent June discussing Danny Boyle’s Sunshine (listen) and Brian Trenchard-Smith’s 1997 sequel Leprechaun 4: In Space (listen).
Now we’re back in YA territory with Brad Michael Elmore‘s trans vampire tale Bit, but the 2019 film is quite a bit more fun than most coming-of-age texts.
Laurel (Nicole Maines) is a recent high school graduate that moves to L.A. to crash on her older brother Mark (James Paxton)’s couch and immediately falls in with a squad of female-identifying vampires. But fang life is complicated by Laurel’s refusal to feed or kill, which leads to friction with the coven’s leader Duke (Diana Hopper), who warns that Laurel’s bloodlust will put them all in danger.

A year and a half ago, we heard that M. Night Shyamalan was producing the thriller The Vanishings at Caddo Lake, which was being directed by the duo of Celine Held and Logan George – who made their feature directorial debut with the 2020 drama Topside and went on to direct episodes of Shyamalan’s Apple TV+ series Servant. That movie, which now has the shorter title Caddo Lake, still doesn’t have a release date… but it does have a rating. The Motion Picture Association’s ratings board has given Caddo Lake a PG-13 for some disturbing/bloody images, thematic elements, and brief strong language.
Shyamalan has only made two R-rated movies (The Happening and Knock at the Cabin), so it’s not surprising to hear that this Shyamalan-produced project has earned a PG-13.
Held and George wrote the screenplay for the film, crafting the following story: When an 8-year-old girl mysteriously vanishes on Caddo Lake,...

What happens when 20-Squad has to save one of their own?
In S.W.A.T. Season 5 Episode 19, Street gets stuck on a hijacked plane thanks to the dangerous prisoner he's transporting. The team's rescue mission plans are put in place but with terms changing, that might prove hard.
Meanwhile, Hondo and Nichelle may take a big step in their relationship as S.W.A.T. recruit Nora rethinks her career path.
Obviously, with an episode that has Street in danger, there is going to be some worried Chris, because why wouldn't there be?
Despite their relationship being a pretty complicated one, they still care for each other. And it's clear in this episode.
Before Street's flight at the beginning of the episode, the two of themt talked on the phone, and it wasn't without Street bringing up the roller coaster their lives have been.
Street: Chris, I don't know how much longer I can do this.

Simmons), the leader of one of the largest family-owned pharmaceutical companies, and his brother Frank (Bruce Dern). He and Patty (Nina Arianda) hope to use the power of Big Pharma to buy justice, but loyalties are tested when Patty feels Billy may be using her because she got a new job at a prestigious white-shoe law firm in San Francisco. Today, Amazon Prime Video released the official trailer and key art for the highly anticipated fourth and final season of Goliath.
If we thought Billy McBride was a badass during the first three seasons, we might be in for a surprise.
Here's what we know.
Goliath is going out with a bang, taking on one of the biggest bads in recent history.
This time, the struggle we've become used to will have to come from somewhere other than an attorney barely scraping by and down on his luck.
His refreshingly frank partner in crime, Patty, takes a job at a prestigious white-shoe law firm in San Francisco, prompting Billy to return to his Big Law roots.
Together, they try to take down one of America’s most insidious Goliaths: the opioid industry.
With money behind them, we imagine there's nothing that will hold this dynamic duo down from slaying a pharmaceutical giant.

Billy Bob Thornton will take his final turn as Billy McBride in Amazon Prime Video’s Goliath on September 24 – which means the character somehow survived the murder attempt in the season 3 finale.
And he’s looking to face some serious goliaths across eight episodes this season, by way of newcomers J.K. Simmons and Bruce Dern. The streamer teases Billy will face off against the opioid industry: Simmons stars as George Stax, the leader of a family-owned pharmaceutical company that’s one of the biggest in the country. Dern will portray George’s brother Frank.
Not only does Billy survive but he returns to his Big Law roots despite chronic pain in the wake of his attack by last season’s baddy Diana Blackwood (Amy Brenneman). Patty (Nina Arianda), who is now working at a prestigious white-shoe law firm in San Francisco, can’t shake the feeling she’s being used by Billy.

Time is always fleeting, but never has it seemed as warped and malleable as it has in 2020. Reality has been a painful pill to swallow at times this past year, but thankfully we’ve seen bright spots through it all, from much-needed movements for social justice to people casting their ballots for a more stable future than what we’ve experienced these past several years.
As important as it was to stay in tune with the world at large in 2020, it was also important to take the time to unplug, unwind, and relax our minds. For many of us last year, occasional escapism wasn’t just a luxury, it was a survival skill, and thankfully there were still plenty of new horror films, books, video games, and other forms of entertainment to enjoy from the comfort (and safety) of our quarantined homes. Here are some of the horror genre’s...

Possibly the most generic, unexciting name for a vampire movie, I didn’t have high hopes for Bit. But it has so much good going for it that I can definitely forgive its three lettered title.
Bit shows the very feminist story of a transgender woman, Laurel (Nicole Maines) leaving home for the summer and moving in with her brother in L.A. On her first night there, she goes to a club and meets Izzy (Zolee Griggs), who quickly turns her into a vampire and soon after she joins her group of vampires. We soon learn that these (now) five vampires have a rule that they don’t turn men. The ‘lead’ vampire Duke (Diana Hopper) exclaims that she “dreams of a world where all women are vampires.

Its central characters jaded club youth who just happen to be vampires — and seem not to have developed any depth or maturity no matter how long they’ve been doing this undead thing — “Bit” seems likewise content to act cool in the shallow end of the pool. Brad Michael Elmore’s feature flirts with various identification points without making much of them, beyond the automatic cred that placing an Lgbtq stamp on genre tropes will mean for some viewers. If the “Twilight” movies were aimed primarily at teens, this polished low-budget indie is for those teens hip enough to be in their school’s Gay-Straight Alliance.
On the one hand, it’s nice that in 2020 this hook should (despite our current political chaos) seem no big deal. On the other, one does wish this exercise in blase attitudinizing paid a little more attention to suspense, thrills, plot, mythology, and the...

"How would you like to hold the keys to the kingdom, for a change?" Provocator Films has debuted the official trailer for an indie horror coming-of-age dark comedy titled Bit, the latest from writer / director Brad Michael Elmore. Starring Nicole Maines as Laurel, with Diana Hopper, James Paxton, Zolee Griggs, Friday Chamberlain, Char Diaz, Tiffany Milian, and M.C. Gainey. This looks cool! Fun and spunky and, yes, biting. Have a taste. Here's the first official trailer (+ poster) for Brad Michael Elmore's Bit,...
