Daniel Craig’s stellar run as James Bond came to an end with the 2021 movie, No Time To Die. Starting from 2006’s Casino Royale, Craig has established himself as one of the best iterations of the character seen to date. Now, with Eon Productions looking for a replacement, all eyes are on the studio as they attempt to finalize the creatives that will be behind the upcoming movie.
Daniel Craig stars as James Bond in Skyfall I Columbia Pictures
For a long while, legendary director Christopher Nolan had been earmarked as the ideal choice. However, that seems to have changed for the time being, with the producers reportedly looking for a more traditional approach, and a “safe and seasoned pair of hands” to ensure the franchise’s continuity without overshadowing Bond’s character with a distinct directorial style.

Over in the broadcast television world, it's cancellation jitters season as the networks start to announce all of the renewals and cancellations ahead of the reveal of their fall schedules. However, over here in Netflix Land, it's always cancellation jitters season.
Netflix has already handed out a number of renewals and cancellations in 2024, including axing Obliterated after one season and renewing Heartbreak High for a third and final season. But a handful of fan-favorite Netflix shows released this spring are still awaiting word on their fates. There's cause for concern for all of them (except one), though more than one should receive good news.
Here are three Netflix shows currently in the running for a renewal and an additional two that should be renewed but are looking more like cases for cancellation.

Aubrey Plaza starred in The White Lotus Season 2, but the star has not seen herself in the series almost two years after it aired on HBO.
Due to technical difficulties, the Parks and Recreation alum says she hasn’t seen the Mike White-created series.
“I still haven’t, but I’m going to,” Plaza said in an interview with The Wall Street Journal. “To be honest, I had trouble opening my HBO Max account when I was trying to watch it originally. This post contains spoilers for the "Divergent" trilogy.
The "chosen one" trope is a staple of young adult fare, through some franchises have made an effort to subvert it. For instance, "The Hunger Games" protagonist Katniss Everdeen is meant to embody the Mockingjay throughout "The Hunger Games" series, but she consistently detests being used as a revolutionary symbol for political propaganda. A similarly subversive figure emerges in Veronica Roth's "Divergent" book series, where Beatrice "Tris" Prior is initially presented as an anomaly within the system — with facets of the "chosen one" formula guiding her arc — only to be revealed as just one of many such anomalies. What really makes her stand out is being brave enough to challenge the status quo.
When director Neil Burger's adaptation of Roth's first book, "Divergent," was released in 2014, the film received mixed reviews from critics but did pretty well at the box office.

One of Netflix's hottest shows of 2024 has gotten a second-season renewal! Here's what we know so far on The Gentlemen Season 2!
Fans of Netflix are used to the streamer sadly canceling some great shows after one season. So it's a bit of a surprise to hear one is getting renewed just five months after appearing. However, it shows that The Gentlemen has become a hot series for fans.
Created by famed director Guy Ritchie, the movie is loosely based on his 2019 film of the same name. It follows Eddie Horniman (Theo James), a Sas officer who returns to his English estate when his father dies. Eddie is shocked when he's named the heir to the place over older brother Freddy (Daniel Ings). That's because Freddie is a drug-addicted moron who's millions of pounds in debt to local mobsters.

Netflix has renewed Guy Ritchie’s The Gentlemen for a second season.
Ritchie, who set the TV show in the world of Miramax’s film of the same name, will return to direct the series, while Theo James, Kaya Scodelario and Daniel Ings will reprise their starring roles. Additional casting for the second season hasn’t yet been announced.
The first season of The Gentlemen introduced James as Eddie Horniman as he unexpectedly became the new Duke of Halstead after inheriting his father’s sizable country estate. The snag is that the aristocratic pile came with an illegal weed farm run by ruthless Susie (Scodelario) and her crime boss father Bobby Glass, played by Ray Winstone.

Get ready for another go-around with the Guy Ritchie series, The Gentlemen. Variety has reported that the Netflix series has been renewed for season 2. In his review for season one, our own Alex Maidy said, “The Gentlemen series feels like a reimagining of the film. The story hits some vaguely similar notes but the vast majority is completely different. […] This is a unique reimagining of a successful story that takes it in a different direction and sets up future seasons.”
Netflix U.K.’s VP spoke ecstatically about the show’s successful first season, “With its gun-toting chickens and drug-dealing Dukes, The Gentlemen was a huge hit with audiences in 2024. Not really a surprise as Guy Ritchie remains one of the industry’s most iconic creators telling authentically British stories with his signature swagger, grit and wit. Riding high on the momentum of Longlegs, here’s a trailer for director Osgood Perkins’ follow-up, The Monkey, based on Stephen King’s writing.
While you shouldn’t get your hopes up regarding the content of Neon’s recently-released teaser for The Monkey – it’s certainly not a long one! – it’s worthy of report all the same given that the film has been flying somewhat under the radar for a while now. It’s a project that we haven’t yet covered yet but given the success of Neon latest horror thriller, Longlegs, Neon has elected to use that forward momentum to highlight its upcoming take on the Stephen King short story.

Osgood Perkins is riding high after the box office success of "Longlegs," the hit horror movie that featured Nicolas Cage going bonkers as a Satanic serial killer. "Longlegs" was Perkins' biggest hit, and now he's following it up with his biggest movie so far, at least in terms of budget. That film is "The Monkey," based on the Stephen King short story of the same name. Now, when I say this is Perkins' "biggest" movie in regards to budget, I don't want you to think the filmmaker is working with hundreds of millions of bucks. According a profile in Vulture, "The Monkey" was made "with a budget in the $10–$11 million range," which is pretty high for Perkins, a horror filmmaker who has solely made lower-budgeted indie fare so far. "The Monkey" is also coming from Neon, who distributed "Longlegs."

Sooner or later, it would appear almost every filmmaker adapts a Stephen King story. They have not always been winners, but when they work, they really work. And hopes are high given that the latest, The Monkey (which is drawn from the short horror story featured in King's 1985 collection Skeleton Crew) comes via Osgood Perkins, whose Longlegs was creepily effective and has seen big success at the box office. Check out a very brief teaser for the film, which stars Theo James:
With James Wan – no stranger to horror himself — as a producer, The Monkey has the following official synopsis: "When twin brothers Hal and Bill discover their father’s old monkey toy in the attic, a series of gruesome deaths starts occurring all around them. The brothers decide to throw the monkey away and move on with their lives, growing apart over the years. But when the mysterious deaths begin again,...

Just crossing the $90 million mark at the worldwide box office (with over $71 million in the U.S. alone), it’s safe to say Osgood Perkins’ Longlegs is one of the bonafide successes of the year. Neon is now reuniting with the director on a feature he already shot earlier this year and will arrive next February.
The Monkey, based on Stephen King’s 1980 short story, stars Theo James, Tatiana Maslany, Elijah Wood, Christian Convery, Colin O’Brien, Rohan Campbell, and Sarah Levy. Ahead of a February 21, 2025 release, Neon attached the teaser trailer ahead of Cuckoo this past weekend and now it has made its way online.
“It’s gonna feel more like Misery or Creepshow or Gremlins or American Werewolf. It couldn’t be less like Longlegs. To me, if you’re gonna make a movie about a toy monkey, you can be serious about it. But so much of King is funny and nostalgic feeling.

When Sébastien Raybaud founded Anton in 2011 (as Anton Capital Entertainment), his first major deal proved to be groundbreaking for the European film industry.
Although institutional slate financing had been a regular practice among U.S. studios (Raybaud himself helped arrange several deals during his time on the film arm of investment bank Société Générale in London), it just wasn’t being done on the continent.
“There was a disconnect,” he says, pointing to the money that was available in the U.S. compared to Europe. So Anton was originally set up to “marry big investors with the industry.” It did just that with a €150 million (($160 million) three-year slate-financing deal with StudioCanal using U.S. fund Falcon, with the cash injection helping bankroll both the hugely successful “Paddington” and “Shaun the Sheep” franchises, kickstarting a period of significant growth for the Vivendi-owned studio.
