Dylan Penn, the young actor of Sean Penn’s “Flag Day” which competed at Cannes, will be receiving the Hol­ly­wood Rising-Star Award at the upcoming Deauville American Film Festival.

The Hollywood Rising-Star Award launched in 2011 and handed out its inaugural nod to Ryan Gosling and Jes­si­ca Chas­tain, and went on to pay tribute to Paul Dano, Robert Pat­tin­son, Eliz­a­beth Olsen, Chloé Grace Moretz, Daniel Rad­cliffe, Shai­lene Wood­ley, Elle Fan­ning and Sophie Turn­er.

Lingo Pictures’ Foxtel-commissioned comedic drama Lambs of God will have its world premiere in official competition at Series Mania next month.

Created by Sarah Lambert and directed by Jeffrey Walker, the show adapted from Marele Day’s novel will compete with nine series from the UK, the Us, Israel, Norway, France and Russia.

Thurman will make the trek to Lille, in northeast France, for the international premiere of Netflix Original Series “Chambers,” which looks like one of the hottest tickets in this year’s 10-title Official Competition. “Chambers” is a Ya supernatural drama thriller from Stephen Gaghan and Turner’s multi-platform Super Deluxe. Carole Lambert’s recently launched Windy Prods., which has the Marion Cotillard-starrer “Angel Face” playing in Un Certain Regard, is set to produce Joséphine Derobe’s fantasy feature “Vv,” Eric Capitaine’s “Les bonnes actions” and Manuel Schapira’s “Tropique de la violence.”

Derobe’s “Vv” follows Anna, a woman who wakes up in a hospital room after surviving a deadly car accident. Although she tries to remain optimistic, her return to normal life turns nightmarish as she undergoes rehabilitation therapy using virtual reality. The movie will mark the feature debut of Derobe, who is a well-known French 3D and Vr artist.

“A psychological thriller directed by Roman Polanski and co-written by Polanski and Olivier Assayas – elevator pitches don’t get much more promising than that,” we said in our review of Based on a True Story from Cannes. “Sadly, the lackluster outcome proves there’s no guaranteed recipe for success.” Despite being a disappointment at the festival earlier this year, I’m still intrigued to see Eva Green star in a Polanski film, especially one scripted by Assayas.

Ahead of a release in France this December, the first trailer has now landed. We added in our review, “Based on a True Story, adapted from the prize-winning novel by Delphine de Vigan, revisits territory Polanski has mined time and again over the course of his long career. Perhaps too many times, as the film feels like the work of an author thoroughly bored with his material, a sentiment impossible not to share as a viewer.

In a week where Louis C.K. debuted at Tiff his new movie “I Love You Daddy” (read our review here), which is in part about a filmmaker who was accused of child-molesting yet is still widely celebrated, it seems only appropriate that we get the trailer for a new Roman Polanski movie.

Four years after “Venus in Fur,” Roman Polanski returns with an adaptation of Delphine de Vigan’s “Based on a True Story,” a stylish but ultimately stiff collection of old tropes about writers and their audience, fiction vs. reality, and the Other that becomes you.

Offering little in the way of fresh material and mixing together influences such as “Misery,” “Single White Female,” and Polanski’s own “The Ghost Writer,” this sophisticated French/Polish two-hander is at least a good showcase for the two lead actresses — while the pairing of Polanski and “Personal Shopper” director Olivier Assayas, here solely on scriptwriting duty, does not quite deliver on its promise.

Lionsgate has released the first-look image from Roman Polanski’s thriller-drama “Based on a True Story,” which marks the French-Polish director’s first film in four years. The film, whose original title in French is “D’après une histoire vraie” and stars Eva Green and Emmanuelle Seigner, will show at the Cannes Films Festival, which will run May 17 – 28.

The Cannes Film Festival has announced the addition of seven new films to the 2017 lineup, including Roman Polanski’s “D’après une histoire vraie” (“Based on a True Story”). Written by Polanski and French filmmaker Olivier Assayas and based on the novel by Delphine de Vigan, the film will screen in the Out of Competition section. Other filmmakers whose work has been added include Swedish filmmaker Ruben Ostlund, Argentinian writer-director Santiago Mitre and Iranian-born Swiss filmmaker Barbet Schroeder.

Sony Pictures Classics (Spc) has picked up North American rights to the French-language thriller, continuing its association with the director after the 2011 drama Carnage.

RatPac Entertainment will partner on distribution with Spc, who negotiated for the rights with Jeff Berg of Northside Services.

Emmanuelle Seigner stars as a Parisian author with writer’s block who encounters a mysterious woman at a book signing played by Eva Green. Wassim Beji of Wy Productions serves as producer.

Olivier Assayas and Polanski adapted Based On A True Story from Delphine de Vigan’s novel of the same name.

In the past few years director Roman Polanski chucked out three very well-regarded films - "The Ghost Writer," "Carnage" and "Venus In Fur". Since then though he's been fairly quiet beyond a failed attempt at an Alfred Dreyfus biopic.

Now, Allocine (via The Film Stage) reports that Polanski will direct an adaptation of Delphine de Vigan's French novel "Based On A True Story". On top of that, "Clouds Of Sils Maria" helmer Olivier Assayas will be adapting the script.

The story follows a writer going through a rough period after the release of his latest book. He soon gets mixed up with an admirer. No word on when the project will begin production.

Though director Roman Polanski’s next film was set to tackle the Dreyfus affair, the 1890s French political scandal involving a Captain of the French Army who was convicted of passing secrets to the Germans, it has so far failed to get off the ground. But now The Film Stage reports that Polanski will adapt Delphine de Vigan’s novel “Based on a True Story,” with a script from writer-director Olivier Assayas.
