Putting the “act” in Action Bronson, the Flushing-born rapper and host of “Fuck, That’s Delicious” has joined Austin Butler and Zoë Kravitz in Darren Aronofsky’s “Caught Stealing.”
The film follows Hank Thompson, a burned-out former baseball player who is “unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld” of New York City in the 1990s. Production is currently underway in the East Village of Manhattan.
From Sony Pictures, “Caught Stealing” is based on the books by Charlie Huston. The cast also includes Regina King, Liev Schreiber, Matt King and Bad Bunny.
Bronson is a hip-hop artist known for his laid-back flow and humourous and obscure references. He most well-known song is “Baby Blue” featuring Chance the Rapper, which reached the Billboard Hot 100 in 2015.
He’s also deeply entrenched in the culinary scene, hosting the Viceland series “Fuck, That’s Delicious” since 2016. The show has featured celebrities...

Emmy nominee D’Pharaoh Woon-a-Tai (Reservation Dogs) has joined the cast of Darren Aronofsky’s crime thriller Caught Stealing from Sony Pictures, Deadline has confirmed.
Caught Stealing follows Hank Thompson (Austin Butler), a burned-out former baseball player, as he’s unwittingly plunged into a wild fight for survival in the downtown criminal underworld of ’90s NYC. We hear Woon-a-Tai will play the role of Dale, Hank’s best friend since high school.
In March, Deadline exclusively revealed the project, based on the books by Charlie Huston, was in the works, with Butler set as the lead and Aronofsky as director. Huston penned the screenplay with Aronofsky’s Protozoa producing.
In addition to Butler, Woon-a-Tai joins the previously announced cast of Vincent D’Onofrio, Zoë Kravitz, Regina King, Matt Smith, Liev Schreiber, Will Brill, Bad Bunny and Griffin Dunne.
Woon-a-Tai is a 22-year-old Oji-Cree First Nations coming off a busy Emmy season.

“Blink Twice” (Amazon MGM), actress Zoë Kravitz’s feature directorial debut with Channing Tatum as a tech billionaire who invites a cocktail waitress to his private island, was a modest performer in theaters last month. Its opening weekend only reached #4 at the box office, earning $7 million, with the full run amounting to $22 million.
Flash forward a few weeks, and it is #1 for its debut week in PVOD. It jumped to the top even as three other new releases (all weaker performers) also made at least one of the two top 10 lists below.
Netflix continues to find appeal for its recent originals, with four films in its top five. These though were trumped by “The Garfield Movie,” the latest Sony release to transition to the streamer four months after release. Azazel Jacobs’ “His Three Daughters” (premiering at Toronto Film Festival last year and garnering an excellent 84 Metacritic score) is top among...

‘The Batman’ director Matt Reeves has revealed more movie and TV spin-offs are in the works. The 58-year-old filmmaker is currently working on the DC superhero sequel after releasing its HBO spin-off ‘The Penguin’, and has now teased there are "evolved" plans for future films and shows set in ‘The Batman’ universe.Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, he said: "The things that we're talking about [now] are evolved versions of those things."It’s not like that just didn’t work. It was like, we need to evolve this. I would describe it less as something that didn't work and more as something that is still along a path toward arriving at its destination."The director added ‘The Penguin’ - which sees Colin Farrell, 48, reprise his role as the titular Gotham City mob boss Oswald Cobblepot - would connect directly to the opening of ‘The Batman: Part II’.He shared: "There are...

“Blink Twice” is a movie directed by Zöe Kravitz starring Naomi Ackie, Channing Tatum, Adria Arjona, Christian Slater and Geena Davis.
“Blink Twice” emerges as one of those rare cinematic gems that deftly blends multiple genres to ultimately immerse us in the thrilling labyrinth of a genre we can’t help but adore—the thriller. This film cunningly toys with our expectations, leading us down paths of romance, suspense, and even horror, only to reveal itself as a sharp satire with compelling social undertones. The performances are solid, with Channing Tatum delivering an unexpectedly profound portrayal, diverging from his typical roles to embrace the gravitas required for this more serious thriller.
Plot
The narrative revolves around two young women who receive an invitation to a seemingly idyllic paradise of luxury and excess, extended by a wealthy magnate. However, nothing is as it appears, and it isn’t long before they...

Once again, HBO has delivered another series worth following, The Penguin, inspired by the character of Oswald Cobblepot or Oz Cobb from the Batverse. DC tends to deliver the darkest and most gruesome on-screen versions of various storylines, and this is what fans probably expect from The Penguin.
Colin Farrell in The Penguin (2024) | Credits: Warner Brothers Discovery
Here’s a short backstory on Oz Cobb for those who aren’t aware of him. Oz Cobb, popularly known as the Penguin, is arguably the biggest criminal underworld mastermind in the Batverse.
Oz Cobb’s motives are fueled by a desire to be recognized by Gotham’s elites. Cobblepot tries to take over the underworld from the Falcones. And who tries to stop the Penguin from his antics? Batman.
HBO’s adaptation of the story features Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb, the lead role. Cristin Milioti and Michael Zegen act as Sofia and Alberto Falcone.

Matt Reeves' "The Batman" ends on a note of tentative hope for our caped crusader, but the aftermath of the Gotham seawall bombing is a dire one. Gotham has always been a cesspool for crime, but the death of Carmine Falcone creates a power vacuum like never before. The post-bombing flood mostly affects the poor, leading to overcrowded settlements, and a rise in looting, supply of illegal drugs, and petty crimes. Well, what better opportunity for someone like Oswald Cobb/The Penguin (Colin Farrell) to quickly climb up the ranks of the criminal underworld, while Gotham is in such a singular state of disarray? Episode 1 of "The Penguin" miniseries plunges us into the heart of chaos, with the events taking place a week after the devastating explosion in Gotham Square.

This article contains some spoilers for "The Penguin" episode one.
Whenever a franchise jumps between mediums, from feature films to television or the other way around, a major role being recast becomes par for the course. After all, recastings can happen even if a series isn't jumping mediums, and although some franchises are increasingly attempting to stave off recasting by the use of lookalikes, de-aging, and other digital technologies, there's a reason the old fashioned style of just hiring a new actor to play the same part is still the most valid. Yet perhaps less common is the phenomenon of a new actor being hired to take over the role of a character who, in the narrative of the film or series, has already died.
This posthumous scenario happens to be the case in the new HBO Max series "The Penguin," which is a side-quel and spin-off of Matt Reeves' "The Batman.

“The Penguin” is finally here.
The new original series, which will debut on HBO Thursday before moving to the prime Sunday night slot on Sept. 29, stars Colin Farrell as the titular character, a low-level crime figure named Oswald Cobb who is looking to make a name for himself in Gotham City. Can he successfully pit two crime families against one another, while also steering clear of Sofia Falcone (Cristin Milioti), who shares his grand dreams of conquering the city’s underworld?
Perhaps a bigger question remains, as well, which is when, exactly, does “The Penguin” take place? And how does it fit into director Matt Reeves’ larger Batman Epic Crime Saga?
Read on to find out, but be warned there are minor spoilers ahead.

The Penguin is set to land on Max and with it will surely come speculation on whether or not viewers really need to watch Matt Reeves' The Batman which is three hours long. While I'd certainly encourage watching the movie--it's excellent and suitably dark and gritty--in all honesty you don't have to block out that time in your busy schedule to keep up with Oz Cobb's story on HBO.
What you really need is a brief premier on a few events that happen in the film to give some context to why Gotham is the way it is in The Penguin, what's led Oz to make a power grab like this, and one unexpected relation that may or may not factor into the story. “The Penguin” is upon us, but before we jump back into Gotham City, it’s important to remember where we left off.
The series is a direct spinoff of the 2022 film “The Batman.” The film saw the early days of the Caped Crusader (Robert Pattinson) investigating a number of murders at the hand of The Riddler (Paul Dano), which led him to cross paths with Oz Cobb (Colin Farrell). Oz is a far cry from the legendary Batman villain he’s destined to become, but the film sets up his power grab opportunity.
Oz serves as a lieutenant in the Falcone crime family in the film and the death of the patriarch sets up some room for him to climb. But with a three-hour movie to remember, there’s a lot of information to distill before the HBO show drops.

Zoe Kravitz’s directorial debut Blink Twice isn’t at all lacking in big ideas. But other than the horrors of class division and people’s need to feel powerful at the cost of other people’s pain, everything else is almost a bit too vague or presented too randomly to actually be impactful. Frida’s fight for freedom on abusive tech mogul Slater King’s private island is effervescent with the kind of exasperation any sensible person is to feel about a situation like that. But the journey itself, where every step taken is supposed to be poignant with the themes of women’s strength in unity and nonsensical hubris bringing doom upon the perps, is very deficient in sincerity.
Spoiler Alert
What Happens in the film?
Cocktail waitress/ hobbyist nail stylist Frida’s quite the smitten kitten when the man in question is Slater King, a billionaire tech-bro...

Colin Farrell has not only a massive physical transformation in The Penguin — returning to the role of his The Batman villain Oz Cobb — but also a vocal one, switching out his famous Irish accent for that of a New York gangster.
At the HBO series‘ New York premiere on Tuesday, Farrell explained the key to that switch, joking, “For some reason ‘Gefilte fish’ became an anchor if the accent was beginning to go out.”
“My dialect coach, Jessica Drake, she has a library of thousands of accents from all over the world dating back to the ’30s and ’40s, so when we’re preparing for something we go in — based on where the character’s from, we have a listen to four or five different recordings from around that region, then you narrow the zone into something you think is good energetically, not just the sounds,” the star told The Hollywood Reporter on the carpet.

Adria Arjona is set to star in Onslaught, the next film from You’re Next and Godzilla X Kong director Adam Wingard, said to be a ‘gonzo action thriller’.
Having starred in two well-received thrillers over the past year – that’d be Blink Twice and Hit Man – Adria Arjona’s reportedly set to appear in another one, this time from director Adam Wingard.
Most recently, Wingard’s been best known in multiplexes for his expensive monster flicks – 2021’s Godzilla Vs Kong and 2024’s Godzilla X Kong: The New Empire. For his next film, it’s said that the filmmaker’s returning to the smaller-scale thrillers of his earlier career, most notably 2011’s You’re Next and 2014’s The Guest. As reported in May, it’s called Onslaught, and its script, co-written by Wingard and Simon Barrett, is described as a ‘gonzo action thriller’ by The Hollywood Reporter.

Adam Wingard is done with the MonsterVerse (for now), but he has found a leading lady for his next project. THR reports that Adria Arjona is in final negotiations to star in and executive produce Onslaught for A24, a project described as a “gonzo action horror thriller.“
Plot details are being kept under wraps, but it’s said that Arjona will play “a mother who falls back on a particular set of skills in order to protect her loved ones after she runs afoul of a threat that has escaped a secret military base.” In addition to directing Onslaught, Wingard is also co-writing the script with Simon Barrett, who he worked with on You’re Next and The Guest. Production is expected to kick off in New Mexico later this year.

Adria Arjona, who appeared opposite Glen Powell in Netflix’s Hit Man, is in final negotiations to star in and executive produce Onslaught, the latest feature project from Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire filmmaker Adam Wingard.
A24 is behind the action thriller after winning an auction in the spring. It reteams Wingard with his frequent collaborator Simon Barrett. The two made the cult hits You’re Next and The Guest.
Wingard and Barrett are writing the project, with Wingard to be in the director’s seat when cameras roll in New Mexico later this year.
Many details for Onslaught are being kept in an underground experimental facility, but sources describe it as a gonzo action horror thriller. The scope is said to more in line with Wingard’s earlier movies, which were all original creations, before he went off and made the big-budget spectacle hits Godzilla vs Kong and Godzilla x Kong.

“The Batman Part II” is currently deep in development. Although the film has been delayed by nearly a year, we continue to receive regular updates.
Robert Pattinson is set to return as Bruce Wayne, with Zoë Kravitz reprising her role as Selina Kyle, also known as Catwoman. Andy Serkis will once again play Alfred Pennyworth, Bruce Wayne’s loyal butler and confidant, while Colin Farrell returns as the Penguin, adding depth to this new chapter of the Batman universe. While most of the cast was confirmed months ago, one role remains uncertain: Barry Keoghan’s Joker.
Keoghan appeared as an “Unseen Arkham Prisoner” in “The Batman” (2022). Director Matt Reeves later confirmed that this character was indeed the Joker. A deleted scene featuring Keoghan’s Joker interacting with Robert Pattinson’s Batman was released by Warner Bros. on March 24, 2022, three weeks after the film’s premiere, and it was well-received by fans.
