Biography

Bardugo suffers from osteonecrosis and sometimes needs to use a cane, which is where she gained inspiration for her protagonist master thief and gang boss Kaz Brekker.

She was raised by her grandparents, who are Spanish and Moroccan Jew on one side and Lithuanian and Russian on the other (she did not reveal which side of her parents).

Before publishing her first novel, Bardugo worked in copywriting and journalism, as well as makeup and special effects.

She serves as a singer in the band Captain Automatic.

Bardugo graduated from Yale University with a degree in English in the spring of 1997.
