Floridians take their horror seriously, gladly braving the sweltering June weather for the 9th annual Tampa Bay Screams horror convention last weekend in Pinellas Park, Fl. The event turned the modest Pinellas Park Performing Art Center into a buzzing den of frightful fanatics browsing eclectic collections, meeting stars, and discussing their beloved horror scene.
This convention was a great display of passionate, resilient, horror fans making their twisted ideas a reality. The heat and sporadic thunderstorms made the space feel all the more like a sanctuary for the weird and weary. After a few tumultuous years for the state of the arts in Florida, many event attendees were relieved to see a revival of sorts at Tampa Bay Screams.
“The Tampa Bay Screams June 2024 edition had a lot to live up to from what founder Sean Donohue had established,” said Tampa Bay Screams owner and organizer Andy L. “A lot...

The vignettes that open I Slay on Christmas, the new anthology film from producer Phil Herman, are almost hallucinogenic in their disassociated content and styles. A man runs through the woods only to find his adversary, a pine cone, floating in the air ahead of him as a voice intones his fate. Another man sits on a couch as the weatherman talks about unseasonably warm weather and how it’s helping a virus to spread. When we see him again, he’s bleeding from the nose and mouth and looks like a zombie.

Legendary scream queens Brinke Stevens (The Slumber Party Massacre), Michelle Bauer (Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers), Deborah Dutch (Hard to Die), and Courtney Lercara (Slaughterhouse) have joined the cast of writer/director Bobby Canipe Jr.’s upcoming horror project Grandma, a tribute to the shot-on-video horrors of the 1980s and ’90s! In Lercara’s case, this means she will be earning her first screen credit in thirty years, as she last appeared in the anthology Things back in 1993.
To ensure that Grandma will perfectly emulate the look and feel of the shot-on-video movies of the past, Canipe has brought on a dream team of executive producers and creative consultants that consists of multiple Sov filmmakers: Donald Farmer, Dustin Ferguson, Mark Polonia, Joel Wynkoop, Todd Sheets, Gary Cohen, Tim Ritter, Brad Sykes, and Eric Stanze. Scott Appleby will be providing the required original synth score.

Director, writer, and actor Joel D. Wynkoop is kind of my hero. The man has starred in over 80 short films and full-length features since his debut in the 1985 horror flick “Twisted Illusions.” Locating some of his work can be difficult — I really wish I owned a copy of “Jacker 2: Descent to Hell” — but it’s worth the effort if you live and breathe no-budget cinema. Thankfully, the folks at Cult Movie Mania are releasing Wynkoop’s impossible-to-find 1992 martial arts flick “Lost Faith” on DVD and VHS. I’ve heard a lot about this movie from various collectors and B-movie aficionados over the years, but I’ve never had the opportunity to see the flick for myself. This should finally change in the very near future. Are you ready for the plot synopsis? Check it out: Get ready for a Nekoda blast straight to the face! Okay, that doesn’t tell you much.

Infamous filmmaker Herschell Gordon Lewis, creator of the now legendary films Blood Feast and Two Thousand Maniacs is back with a truly odd-ball (and of course gory) satire called The Uh-Oh Show.
Here's the beef:

Fred Finagler, the show.s mastermind, feeds the fans depraved cravings by launching an even bloodier reality spectacular filled with Big Bad Wolf attacks, Hansel & Gretel-style torture massacres, and mauling mutilations from the Three Bears and a gore-crazed Goldilocks. It.s just the type of prime-time violence Fred needs to keep the ratings high!

"Girls Gone Dead"
The film which is set to start filming on November 13 is genre director Michael Hoffman Jr.'s (Spring Break Massacre) most ambitious undertaking with a five week shooting schedule and a budget of roughly around $500,000. Helping him with this endeavor is Aaron Wells (Rock and a Hard Place: Another Night at the Agora) who will share co-directing credit and Ryan Dee who is on board as the film's producer.
Girls Gone Dead features a cast including hottie Caley Hayes (who ironically played the hottie in "Sex Drive"), sizzling Penthouse Pet Ryan Keely (seen on this year's MTV movie awards in a fake commercial for "Devil" alongside M. Night Shyamalan) internet sensation Shawn C. Phillips (President's Day) and the hardest working man in indie horror,...

Shawn C. Phillips is one of the hardest working indie actors out there racking up a number of film credits in the past few years. Comparsions to another hard working indie actor, Joel D. Wynkoop are unavoidable due to how frequently he works within the horror genre. You can catch Shawn in President's Day which is due for release on DVD/Blu-Ray in early 2011 and Assault of the Sasquatch which comes out in Oct. In the meantime, check out what Shawn had to say about his career.
So who is Shawn C. Phillips and what are you all about?
Well I'm 24 years old who is an avid movie collector and Actor. Ive been collecting films all my life and started acting in feature films in 2008. I also have a following on the YouTube channel Coolduder where I do DVD updates which are reviews of what films I have bought as...

Joel D. Wynkoop is one of the hardest working actors in the indie horror world, having appeared in over 50 films. He is the John Carradine of horror films. Towards the beginning of the decade, he experienced a resurgence in film work and racked up one credit after another. The 80's and 90's saw him working infrequently, though one of his more well known films is Truth or Dare: Screaming For Sanity. I had the chance to ask him a few questions about his career. Here is what he had to say.

To kick start our Faces Of Indie Horror Month, I thought we would start out with an interview with director Tim Ritter ( Offical Site ) of Truth or Dare. His film, Truth or Dare, changed the entire landscape of modern indie horror filmmaking forever so it is only fitting that Mr. Ritter gets the first spot in our interview chair. Here's what he had to say:
Just in case we have any horror fans that are unfamiliar with Tim Ritter, who is he and what is he all about?
I’m just a horror fan who also loves to contribute something to the genre when I can muster up the inspiration and energy. My biggest childhood influences are Jaws and Carpenter’s Halloween. I’ve made over a dozen underground movies over the past twenty-six years (including the Truth Or Dare? trilogy, Killing Spree, and Creep) and written a few books...

Indie filmmaker Jason Stephenson dropped us a line and few exclusive pics (see ’em below) from Strip Club Slasher, the latest feature from his Not for the Squeamish Productions. Stephenson, whose credits include Off The Beaten Path and Doomed To Consume, is directing this flick from a script by horror author Joe Knetter.
“We’ve been filming pretty much every weekend for the past two months,” Stephenson tells us, “and production is finally starting to wind down. This past weekend was the final big shoot; we now only need to get a handful of pickup shots, then make a teaser trailer, and then editing the feature will commence.”
The director also provided the following synopsis: “A seedy small-town strip joint takes a down-and-dirty donkey punch to the back of the head when one of the girls is brutally murdered. Fearing that the killer may be targeting the local talent, the...

With production winding down on his new film for Not For the Squeamish Productions, Strip Club Slasher, famous horror author and Dread Central's resident perv Joe Knetter dropped us off some exclusive semi-nsfw stills from the flick that may get your monitors just a wee bit steamy.
Joe wrote the script, and his co-stars are Scarlet Salem, Rachel Grubb, Elske McCain, sAINT DeVille, Lindy Starr, and Joel Wynkoop. The Strip Club Slasher is being directed by Jason Stephenson. A synopsis follows:
A seedy, small town strip joint takes a down and dirty donkey punch to the back of the head when one of the girls is brutally murdered. Fearing that the killer may be targeting the local talent, the authorities shut the place down while they investigate the crime. Sad and scared, the other girls decide to spend the weekend together to reflect on the loss of their friend and to keep each other safe.

Actress and model Melanie Robel is a self-described, modern day gypsy. Her affinity for travel has served her well, allowing her to take advantage of acting roles where ever the opportunity arises. What kind of roles? She’s played a post-apocalyptic assassin, a monster in a bikini, and an even worse kind of monster: a bitchy, wannabe model!
One thing Melanie doesn’t play at though is her career. She’s not afraid to try challenging new roles. That’s how this young actress has amassed an impressive list of credits in just a few short years! Melanie took a short break from her work to talk to B Movie Man Nic Brown about making movies, her secret vice, and why we might think she’s nerdy, but dedicated to the art of acting!
Nic - Melanie, how did you get your start acting?

If it wasn’t for Herschell Gordon Lewis, the horror world might be a very different place. Known to many as the “Godfather of Gore,” his 1963 gorefest masterpiece Blood Feast changed the face of horror forever by giving audiences their first ever taste of bloodlust on the big screen.
“Blood Feast is a prime example of why you don’t necessarily need a huge budget to have an enduring film,” explained Lewis. “We made it for next to nothing and over 40 years later, Blood Feast is one of those films that people still talk about.”
Lewis added, “These days, some of these so-called horror movies come along and all they do is strut around for a bit and then they vanish. They don’t endure because a lot of them are missing the entertainment value to them. The reason Blood Feast has lasted so long is because we knew how...

A fight has just broken out on the set of a new movie, and B-flick veteran Joel D. Wynkoop is being dragged, kicking and screaming, through the warehouse studio by producer Andrew Allan. Tensions tend to run high on any film shoot, and 10 hours into a 17-hour day, it’s not uncommon for a fuse or two to blow.
But, at just about the time Allan drags Wynkoop through the soundstage door, the film’s director triggers a cue and the collected cast and crew placate an adrenalin-fueled Allen with two very calming words: April Fool!
At the age of 82, the culturally anointed Godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis, is back behind the lens on his 37th feature film, Grim Fairy Tale (first exclusive photos at right and below). The movie, produced by Andy Lalino and Allan of the Film Ranch company, marks his first true return to form; his...

Actually, we all know nothing can stop the Fangoria Radio host, but Debbie did alert us to a new feature she stars in that recently wrapped production in Florida. Stopped Dead, directed by Jason L. Liquori, is now in postproduction and eyeing an October premiere.
The movie stars Rochon and Joel D. Wynkoop as Margaret and Bob, who head out with a pair of friends played by Kevin and Karen White on a vacation trip in an Rv. When Bob witnesses a biker gang committing a murder, the quartet are soon caught up in a Race With The Devil-like scenario fleeing from the cycle savages. “Between scheduling conflicts and problems caused by the economy, we almost didn’t get this movie off the ground,” Liquori says of the project, whose initial two-week shooting schedule had to be narrowed down to eight days. “But in the end, the cast and I...

It's always nice to start off the week with some very good news, and that's just what we have for you this morning. Today is the day that the legendary Godfather of Gore, Herschell Gordon Lewis, steps behind the camera once again on his latest film, Grim Fairy Tale.
We got the official word from producers Andrew Allan and Andy Lalino of Film Ranch this morning!
"On Monday, March 23rd. we kick off production on Herschell Gordon Lewis' extra-gory new feature film, Grim Fairy Tale." says Allan. "Yes, this is actually happening and Film Ranch is producing. Herschell is directing his own original script, and the film will star Brooke McCarter (Lost Boys), Krista Grotte (Brainjacked, Death On Demand), and Joel Wynkoop (Body In A Dumpster), plus some choice cameos from genre faves. It's going to be perfectly deranged. Just like you'd expect from the Godfather of Gore."

Film Ranch toppers Andrew Allan and Andy Lalino passed on an exclusive pic showing a few of the stars of their upcoming shocker Brainjacked enjoying their favorite magazine. Check it out below the cut.
The sci-fi/horror hybrid stars Chris Jackson as Tristan, a young runaway who winds up at The Garden, a rehab facility run by Dr. Karas (100 Tears’ Rod Grant). The good doctor at first cures the debilitating migraines Tristan suffers, but Tristan soon discovers that Karas wants to get into his head another way: He’s been performing mind-control experiments on the other residents, turning them into his zombielike slaves. Tears director Marcus Koch created the makeup FX, and the cast also includes Somali Rose, Chris Sarlls, Krista Grotte and B-flick veteran Joel D. Wynkoop, with a cameo by veteran director William Grefé of Stanley and Mako: The Jaws Of Death fame. Brainjacked is currently in postproduction,...
