Floridians take their horror seriously, gladly braving the sweltering June weather for the 9th annual Tampa Bay Screams horror convention last weekend in Pinellas Park, Fl. The event turned the modest Pinellas Park Performing Art Center into a buzzing den of frightful fanatics browsing eclectic collections, meeting stars, and discussing their beloved horror scene.

This convention was a great display of passionate, resilient, horror fans making their twisted ideas a reality. The heat and sporadic thunderstorms made the space feel all the more like a sanctuary for the weird and weary. After a few tumultuous years for the state of the arts in Florida, many event attendees were relieved to see a revival of sorts at Tampa Bay Screams.

The vignettes that open I Slay on Christmas, the new anthology film from producer Phil Herman, are almost hallucinogenic in their disassociated content and styles. A man runs through the woods only to find his adversary, a pine cone, floating in the air ahead of him as a voice intones his fate. Another man sits on a couch as the weatherman talks about unseasonably warm weather and how it’s helping a virus to spread. When we see him again, he’s bleeding from the nose and mouth and looks like a zombie.

This July, TetroVideo will be releasing the splatter erotic Japanese film Mai-chan’s Daily Life: The Movie (2014) by Sado Satō, the anthology extreme film Vore Gore (2021) and the punk horror film Rot, directed by Marcus Koch in 1999, which is the first title of Tetro Underground, a line dedicated to all the underground films produced until 1999, with tons of titles never officially released before. Director, writer, and actor Joel D. Wynkoop is kind of my hero. The man has starred in over 80 short films and full-length features since his debut in the 1985 horror flick “Twisted Illusions.” Locating some of his work can be difficult — I really wish I owned a copy of “Jacker 2: Descent to Hell” — but it’s worth the effort if you live and breathe no-budget cinema. Thankfully, the folks at Cult Movie Mania are releasing Wynkoop’s impossible-to-find 1992 martial arts flick “Lost Faith” on DVD and VHS. I’ve heard a lot about this movie from various collectors and B-movie aficionados over the years, but I’ve never had the opportunity to see the flick for myself. With production winding down on his new film for Not For the Squeamish Productions, Strip Club Slasher, famous horror author and Dread Central's resident perv Joe Knetter dropped us off some exclusive semi-nsfw stills from the flick that may get your monitors just a wee bit steamy.

Joe wrote the script, and his co-stars are Scarlet Salem, Rachel Grubb, Elske McCain, sAINT DeVille, Lindy Starr, and Joel Wynkoop. The Strip Club Slasher is being directed by Jason Stephenson. A synopsis follows:

A seedy, small town strip joint takes a down and dirty donkey punch to the back of the head when one of the girls is brutally murdered. Fearing that the killer may be targeting the local talent, the authorities shut the place down while they investigate the crime. Sad and scared, the other girls decide to spend the weekend together to reflect on the loss of their friend and to keep each other safe.

Actress and model Melanie Robel is a self-described, modern day gypsy. Her affinity for travel has served her well, allowing her to take advantage of acting roles where ever the opportunity arises. What kind of roles? She’s played a post-apocalyptic assassin, a monster in a bikini, and an even worse kind of monster: a bitchy, wannabe model!

One thing Melanie doesn’t play at though is her career. She’s not afraid to try challenging new roles. That’s how this young actress has amassed an impressive list of credits in just a few short years! Melanie took a short break from her work to talk to B Movie Man Nic Brown about making movies, her secret vice, and why we might think she’s nerdy, but dedicated to the art of acting!

A fight has just broken out on the set of a new movie, and B-flick veteran Joel D. Wynkoop is being dragged, kicking and screaming, through the warehouse studio by producer Andrew Allan. Tensions tend to run high on any film shoot, and 10 hours into a 17-hour day, it’s not uncommon for a fuse or two to blow.

But, at just about the time Allan drags Wynkoop through the soundstage door, the film’s director triggers a cue and the collected cast and crew placate an adrenalin-fueled Allen with two very calming words: April Fool!

We got the official word from producers Andrew Allan and Andy Lalino of Film Ranch this morning!

"On Monday, March 23rd. we kick off production on Herschell Gordon Lewis' extra-gory new feature film, Grim Fairy Tale." says Allan. "Yes, this is actually happening and Film Ranch is producing.
