Whenever you have an original breakout hit in the horror genre it generally means you can expect at least about eight sequels cashing in on the concept. The latest to spawn a hoped-for franchise is writer-director Finn Parker’s follow-up to his smash 2022 debut feature Smile (which made $200 million globally), which he promises is “bigger, bolder, more off the rails, nastier and bloodier” and 10 times the impact of the first film. That may be, but Smile 2, at a bloated running time of 2 hours and 7 minutes, is basically just following the template of the original, which dealt with a metaphysical being inhabiting its victims in the form of a human with a haunting smile on their face, actually a curse passed on from one possessed individual to the next.

When California State University Northridge’s head of film production Nate Thomas came to visit one of his first students, Paul Hunter, on the set of the new David Oyelowo-starring Apple TV Plus series “Government Cheese,” the Northridge alum and show co-creator could be heard boasting about his time in the program.

After learning to tell stories at Csun, Hunter spun a renowned career directing music videos for Beyonce and U2, among others, into helming Bacardi spots with Michael B. Jordan and Cannes Golden Lion-winning campaigns for Nike. Much of that has been through PrettyBird, a Hollywood commercial house he co-founded and uses in part to help foster and launch the careers of other underrepresented voices. “It all started at Northridge,” Thomas says. “We do filmmaking not just for the privileged. Jahi Winston, Evan Alexander Ellison, Jeremy Bobb, and Louis Cancelmi have all joined the show. They will appear alongside previously announced series lead David Oyelowo as well as cast members Simone Missick, Bokeem Woodbine, Sunita Mani, and Adam Beach.

David Oyelowo, who stars in Apple TV+’s series Silo, is expanding his relationship with the streamer.

The actor and his wife and producing partner, Jessica Oyelowo, have signed a first-look deal with Apple TV+ via their Yoruba Saxon banner. Under the multi-year deal, the company will develop both series and feature film projects that Apple will have the first shot at buying.

Yoruba Saxon is a producer of Paramount+’s Lawmen: Bass Reeves (along with MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios); Oyelowo plays the title role, for which he earned a Golden Globe nomination on Monday. The Oyelowos’ company has also produced Nightingale, Captive, A United Kingdom and Come Away, among other titles, and will produce Apple TV+’s forthcoming series Government Cheese along with MacRo Television Studios. The latter is a dramedy based on a short film by Paul Hunter, who co-created the series with Aeysha Carr. Oyelowo is set to star.

Award-winning production company Ventureland has entered a first-look partnership with independent studio A24 for documentary projects.

London, Aug 5 (Ians) The UK has reported a new Covid variant Eg.5.1, accounting for 1 in 7 new cases, according to the country’s Health Security Agency (Ukhsa).

This comes after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated an increase in new Covid cases as well as the number of Covid hospitalisations — from around 6,300 in June to more than 8,000 for the week ending July 22.

Nicknamed Eris, Eg.5.1 was first raised as a signal in monitoring on July 3, and is a sub-lineage of the Omicron variant of Covid.

The Ukhsa in a statement said that Covid rates have increased this week — 5.4 per cent of 4,396 respiratory cases from 3.7 per cent of 4,403 respiratory cases reported in the previous week.

Accounting for 14.6 per cent of Covid cases, Eg.5.1 is the second most prevalent in the UK, after Xbb.1.16 which makes up 39.4 per cent of all cases.

Ventureland co-founder John Battsek knew the chance to tell a postive, upbeat story about the UK 1980s pop band Wham! could very well appeal to sought-after young audiences.

Wham! , directed by the US’ Chris Smith, was one of two new films with which the Oscar-winning documentary producer was at Sheffield DocFest in the UK last week. The other was Laura McGann’s Sundance hit, The Deepest Breath, about Italian freediving champion Alessia Zecchini, which was acquired by Netflix late last year.

New Delhi, May 18 (Ians) The UK has reported an unusual cluster of heart inflammation in newborn babies caused by catching enterovirus, the World Health Organisation (Who) has said.

Myocarditis, or inflammation of the heart muscle, was the presenting feature, and cases peaked in November 2022, with sporadic cases reported across the other months. Enterovirus infections are typically mild, but they can be more severe in newborns than in older children.

In early April, the UK notified the Who about an increase in severe myocarditis in infants in Wales. A total of 15 cases consistent with neonatal sepsis in babies 28 days old and younger were reported from Wales and southwest England from June 2022 and March 2023.

Michael B. Jordan and Tessa Thompson have teamed up once again — this time to throw cyber criminals against walls.

The two stars appear in a new cybersecurity awareness PSA from Amazon as a part of the company’s protect and connect program, which aims to teach Internet users how to protect themselves from phishing and other cybersecurity threats.

The PSA features Jordan and Thompson saving unsuspecting internet users from sketchy internet schemes. The PSA comes as a follow up on Amazon’s commitments at the White House Cybersecurity Summit in 2021.

“Being part of this PSA was an opportunity to work with Tessa again, one of my mentors — Paul Hunter, and to support the Amazon family to get this message out that cyber security and your privacy is really important,” Jordan said. “Nobody wants their information stolen. As much as you can protect your information, and your family and friends, you should do that.

The series is produced by Beckham’s production company Studio 99, in association with Battsek’s Ventureland.

A newly single Jennifer Lopez took to Twitter over the weekend to give fans a taste of her new music video for her Latin-tinged track "Papi." The video was shot in Los Angeles and is being directed by Paul Hunter.

Aceshowbiz.com reported that J.Lo was spotted getting a ride on the shoulders of a male co-star before breaking out into a choreographed dance. She was wearing a cream-colored cropped top and matching shorts for the shoot.

Lopez tweeted a photo of a car on fire with the message, "#omg yesterday got a 'lil hectic #papi #staytuned." She also tweeted a video tease from the clip, which shows a group of men involved in some kind of riot.

A surefire way to get buzz for your single is to invite 50 Cent to feature on it. On Tuesday, former Pussycat Doll Nicole Scherzinger took to Twitter to announce that she was doing just that.

"Shooting #Rightthere video w/ my boy @50cent @nicolescherzy & @50cent too hot for all these clothes!," Scherzinger tweeted, along with a photo of the two on the set.

MTV News was also on the Los Angeles set of the video for "Right There," directed by Paul Hunter. The still-unreleased "Right There," featuring a verse by Fif and produced by Jim Jonsin, will be the first U.S. single off Scherzinger's long-awaited solo debut, Killer Love. (A version of the album, sans 50 Cent, is already out in Europe.

Heather Morris, who plays hilariously ditzy cheerleader Brittany on "Glee," got to channel her sort-of namesake on Tuesday night's "Britney/Brittany" episode. And the professional-dancer-turned-actress didn't disappoint as she re-enacted Spears' videos for "Toxic," "Slave 4 U" and "Me Against the Music." She tackled all of them with her spectacular dance skills and a pretty killer singing voice.

The anesthesia-induced dream sequences followed one of Brittany's stellar reveals: "My name is also Britney Spears. Brittany S. Pierce. I've lived my entire life in Britney Spears' shadow." Well, on Tuesday night she stepped out of her shadow.

Maroon 5 have rocked a wild party in a music video for single "Give a Little More". In the Paul Hunter-directed video, which was premiered via Vevo on Thursday, September 9, the "Wake Up Call" hitmakers serve as a house band who induce partygoers, who are mostly nearly-topless females, to move their body to the dance beat.

"You've been bad/and it goes on and on and on/till you come home babe/till you come home," frontman Adam Levine sings the upbeat track. In the chorus, he belts out, "I'm not gonna love with ya, I'm not gonna love/And I'm not gonna love with ya, I'm not gonna love/Till I get a little more from you."

"Give a Little More" is Maroon 5's second single off their third studio album entitled "Hands All Over", which will be made available in stores across the U.S. on...

Maroon 5 serve as a house band for a crowded house party in a music video supporting their latest single "Give a Little More". Adam Levine and his bandmate rock out the song while partygoers, mostly nearly-topless females, are moving their body to the danceable beat.

Ke$ha's "Take It Off" music video which is directed by Paul Hunter and Dori Oskowitz has hit the web. It follows her dancing around a neighborhood with a bunch of male and female pals who turn into stardust. There are also scenes where people are taking off their clothes.

"[It's] about me and all my hot vampire babe friends breaking into a hotel on another planet, and at the end we all turn into this beautiful stardust," she told Phoenix New Times. "Once you take it all off, all your inhibitions, your clothes, we're all made up of the same thing."

Behind the taking-off-clothes and rolling-in-glitter scenes, there is a message Ke$ha wants to share. "It's also about taking off your inhibitions and being raw and real," she explained to MTV. "And then we start tearing each other apart into pieces, and we're all made out of glittery magic dust ... star dust.

Having recently revealed that she does interviews in the buff, Ke$ha is now imploring the rest of the world to follow suit (or is that suitlessness?) and strip down in the name of a good time. Ke$ha has shared the first look at her music video for new single "Take It Off". Teasing her fans with what to expect from the upcoming clip, the "TiK ToK" hitmaker posted a number of pictures from the video on her Facebook account, some of which see her getting herself dirty while partying with glittery sand.

In several of the freshly-released photos, the 23-year-old singer is snapped wearing a pair of printed shorts and platform heels. One photo in particular pictures her sitting on top of a motorcycle with her right hand holding on a golden helmet. A couple of other pictures capture her being wrapped up in a very glam faux fur coat while sitting on a rock.

I’m reviewing Rob Zombie’s House Of 1000 Corpses a bit late for two reasons: 1) There were no advance screenings held in New York, as Lions Gate figured quite reasonably that mainstream critics wouldn’t get it; and 2) Not only did I want to catch it with a regular audience for the full experience, but sometimes a situation like this arises where I want to support the film with my box-office bucks. And House Of 1000 Corpses deserves it; while it’s not going to alter the course of horror cinema as we know it, it delivers exactly what it promises: a balls-out tribute to the genre classics of the ’70s that pushes the R rating to the limit and...

Keri Hilson premieres a music video of "Slow Dance", the fifth official single lifted from her debut album "In a Perfect World...". This would be the second version of the video which was shot with director Chris Robinson in Los Angeles instead of with director Paul Hunter.

The video starts off with Keri meeting her friends for a night out and goes back few hours when Keri gets dressed for the outing. "She's in her house and by herself, and you kind of think it could be serious, but the song drops out in the middle and her friends catch her being all sexy, basically like, 'What the f**k are you doing? You are not singing by yourself'," Robinson explained the concept.

In his new music video (below) for his first single "Birthday Sex" that's on his debut studio album entitled "Jeremih". Jeremih wrote "Birthday Sex",and it was produced by Mick Schultz. The "Birthday Sex" music video was filmed in Los Angeles,California,and Paul Hunter directed it. The video shows Jeremih with his girlfriend,and a Handycam so he can capture their intimate moments.

Matthew Dunster will direct the Globe's first full-scale production of Troilus and Cressida this summer, featuring Olivier Award-winner Matthew Kelly as Pandarus, with Laura Pyper and Paul Stocker as the ill fated lovers Troilus and Cressida.
