Despite becoming one of the best-selling bands of all time, Pearl Jam still remain something of a paradox. They’re not really a mainstream rock band, but their rabid fanbase shouldn’t be misconstrued as a “cult following,” either.
Dating back to their prominence in the early 90s, Eddie Vedder was never “the guy.” He was cast into the often mythical shadow of Kurt Cobain, who was generally considered the figurehead of the burgeoning grunge movement. They coexisted, sure, but ask any diehard fan of the genre, and they’ll tell you there were definitive sides to be taken: As it was with the Beatles and Stones decades earlier, you were either a Nirvana person or you were a Pearl Jam person.
Pearl Jam now plays their brand of arena rock to a more condensed audience, but make no mistake, they’ve been putting out consistently solid...

When it comes to rock music, the 90s might be most remembered as the decade that exploded grunge all over everything, and that’s not necessarily a derogatory statement. Sure, there was heavy dose of melancholy and a sizable dab of sludge working its way through the decade, but it also altered the direction of rock n’ roll for many years to follow.
Before we move any further, we all need to admit to ourselves that, although this time period was responsible for some truly awe-inspiring rock music–with an influence that can still be felt today–it also gave us a hefty load of pure garbage. Seriously, there was some ridiculously bad music that was allowed to exist, without punishment, for a solid chunk of the 90s.
So I should be clear that all of the songs in this article aren’t going to be the...

Grunge, as a genre, may have died a long time ago, but one of its most recognisable bands continues to go from strength to strength. Almost twenty give years since their inception, Pearl Jam are still regularly selling out arenas and headlining festivals.
It wasn’t meant to be this way, however: frontman Eddie Vedder purposefully tried to slow his own ascent to superstardom, doing everything he could to avoid the magazine covers, billboards and talk show appearances. They didn’t necessarily want to be famous but, based on the strength of their music, they couldn’t help but succeed, gaining a massive following in the process.
Indeed, many bands can boast huge fan followings, but few rival Pearl Jam’s dedicate, almost cult like, audience. To them, the nineties never really ended, ripped flannel shirts and denim jackets are still in vogue, and Pearl Jam are...

Everything in America is done on a grand scale, so why should their NFL stadia be any different?
It’s a sports-mad country, with every game hyped up to the level of a World Cup final, with thousands of fans, from the East to West coast pour in to watch their team in action every week.
Unlike English football, there’s the added incentive of being able to host the Super Bowl if you maintain a great stadium, or even build a new one entirely.
There’s a mixture of old and new, old-fashioned and high-tech, outdoor and indoor arenas, with some stadia ready-built to face the vast array of weather conditions that sweep across the USA.
Some stadia are well-equipped for piling in as many people as possible, while others are geared towards give slightly fewer people a far better experience.
A stadium can also lock down teams to one city,...

If recent news stories are to be believed, Nintendo might be in for a bit of a tough 2014. The company recently announced that it will face its 3rd straight year of operating losses and were forced to slash their Wii U sales forecast from 9 million to just 2.8 million. Stocks and expectations are down across the board and now everyone is pointing fingers at where exactly this gaming powerhouse went wrong. Nintendo president, Satoru Iwata, has hinted that the company needs an entirely new business structure while playing down speculation that he should resign.
One thing is for sure, Nintendo do need to shake things up. Looking at console sales alone, Nintendo’s home consoles have been on a steady decline on each new incarnation with the Wii being the only exception. The Wii however was only a temporary solution to a problem that has been growing...

When Gary LeVox’s daughter Brittany turned 10 last August, she had one request. “She said, ‘Daddy, can Justin Bieber come to my birthday party?’” the Rascal Flatts singer says. “So we got her this cardboard cutout of him.”
Six months later, LeVox delivered the real thing when the band cut a duet and a video with the teen star, and Brittany and 6-year old Brooklyn tagged along.
“They flipped out — Brittany ended up singing one of his songs to him. He was hugging them and was so sweet to them. I’ve even got a low-grade Bieber fever,...
