Did Tom Cruise Sanitize Onscreen Intimate Content In Interview With The Vampire To Protect His Image? (Photo Credit – Instagram)
Hollywood A-lister Tom Cruise is renowned for his electrifying performances and dedication to his craft. He goes above and beyond to immerse himself entirely in any role he takes on. Whether performing death-defying stunts in the Mission: Impossible series, portraying complex characters in films like Rain Man or Jerry Maguire, or mastering new skills for action-packed sequences, Cruise has consistently pushed himself to deliver authenticity in every role.
However, there was a time when Cruise took on a role that required him to embody a literal creature of the night, portraying the menacing vampire Lestat in Anne Rice’s Interview With the Vampire. Cruise played the ruthless, evil character who committed horrific acts. Tom Cruise was stepping away from his usual roles for this character, but despite the dark and explicit nature of the Lestat,...

Lacma’s Art + Film gala entered its brat era over the weekend.
Los Angeles County Museum of Art’s marquee fundraiser took place on the grounds of the L.A. cultural institution on Saturday night as the rebellious spirit of its musical headliner Charli Xcx and her culture shifting brat album seemed to permeate the festivities. The carpet got a green-hued makeover, Anna Wintour praised honoree Baz Luhrmann’s frenetic creative spirit and how he once convinced Rihanna to dance on a table at the Met Gala, Kim Kardashian caused a stir by wearing another rare piece of fashion history and Chloe Sevigny demanded the crowd “make some fucking noise” for Charli, who turned Lacma into an electric after hours with a quick set featuring her Sweat Tour mate Troye Sivan. It even rained a little, a very brat-coded thing for Mother Nature to do in a city like Los Angeles.

While Hollywood’s strikes last year yielded certain protections for writers and actors, many other workers say they’re now seeing a higher barrier to entry level jobs on the other side of it.
Across the industry, organizers say they’re hearing of multiple assistant-level jobs being cut and of increasing requirements to get those starting jobs, while the pay remains low amid a rising cost of living.
“You essentially have to be overqualified in order to get this entry-level job,” says Alex Rubin, co-leader of Pay Up Hollywood, a grassroots movement that advocates for fair pay and safe workplaces for support staff. Rubin notes that even pre-strike, when she was seeking to make a career change, she applied to more than 100 jobs and feels she was only able to get a job as a showrunner’s assistant in January 2022 because she had experience working in different industries in New York.

Lynda Obst, one of the most prolific female producers in Hollywood, died Tuesday in Los Angeles, according to her brother, WME partner Rick Rosen. She was 74.
Obst had previously been open about suffering from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, or Copd.
The producer’s long list of hit films includes Flashdance, The Fisher King, One Fine Day, Contact, Hope Floats, Interstellar and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days. She also executive produced Sleepless In Seattle, TVLand’s Hot in Cleveland and had a deal at Sony Pictures Television.
“I was immensely proud of her,” Rosen said. “She was a trailblazer for women in the industry at a time when it was very difficult for women to have prominent roles. She was passionate about her work but even more passionate about her family.”

Backstage at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ceremony, Cher confirmed that she had once declared she “didn’t give a flying fuck if I got in.” But if the pop superstar (pictured above in an opening duet of “Believe” with Dua Lipa) found her way toward being completely glee about the Saturday night occasion, who else was going to be in anything less than full-on Thanksgiving mode?
Every Rock Hall of Fame induction ceremony has its own distinctive vibe. And during the 2024 event, a marathon five-and-a-half hour concert at Cleveland’s sold-out Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse, gratitude was the prevailing theme from presenters, performers and inductees alike.
With one exception that was not Cher, there was almost no infighting or drama leading up to (or at) the ceremony, and the event itself focused on the artists and music. The special guests and collaborators felt well-matched, and the presenters — including...

The clock was rapidly approaching midnight when Ozzy Osbourne first appeared on the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony stage at the Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio Saturday night. Due to a variety of health ailments, including Parkinson’s Disease, Osbourne’s mobility is severely limited, and he rarely appears in public. But there he was accepting the award on a leather throne with skull armrests, and a giant vampire bat perched on top.

The 39th annual Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony turned Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland, Ohio, into a “celebration” Saturday night as Kool & the Gang, Dave Matthews Band, Mary J. Blige, A Tribe Called Quest and Cher showed up to accept inductions from Chuck D, Julia Roberts, Method Man, Dr. Dre, Dave Chappelle and Zendaya.
The event returned to the hometown of the Rock & Roll Museum for the first time since 2021. This year’s top music-industry honor in the performer category went to Mary J. Blige, Cher, Dave Matthews Band, Foreigner, Peter Frampton, Kool & The Gang, Ozzy Osbourne and A Tribe Called Quest. Musical Excellence Award honorees included Jimmy Buffett, MC5, Dionne Warwick and Norman Whitfield; Alexis Korner, John Mayall and Big Mama Thornton received the Musical Influence Award. Motown executive Suzanne de Passe received the Ahmet Ertegun Award — the fifth woman to accept the accolade.

Less than a year ago, Cher told Kelly Clarkson exactly what she felt about the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. “I wouldn’t be in it now if they gave me a million dollars,” she said. “I’m not kidding you. I’m never going to change my mind. They can just you-know-what themselves.”

Hollywood movie fans are concerned about one evolving aspect of new releases, the limited theatre screening. It seems like over the years new films have deserted the traditional route too early in favor of digital release. Movie-goers were shocked as another project joined the list.
DreamWorks Animations’ The Wild Robot got its digital premiere date only 18 days after it graced the big screen for the first time. Comments online were divided, some anticipating the arrival while a majority were displeased with the short theatre run. Fans stated their sorrow at losing the chance to view the spectacular screenplay in the theatre, apologizing to the studio’s co-founder Steven Spielberg.

For the past three decades, DreamWorks has been seen as the studio that challenged Disney and, in some cases, won. If you are still in business after so many years and are still making movies, then you are clearly doing something right. Originally founded on October 12th, 1994, by three innovators with different motivations, the studio has gone on to make some of the biggest franchises in film history.
Who founded Dreamworks?
Originally conceived by former Disney executive Jeffery Katzenberg, he sought the aid of fellow entertainment executives Steven Spielberg and David Geffen. The three would found DreamWorks Skg with the purpose of becoming a major force in the entertainment industry. The studio’s first release was The Peacemaker in 1997 with other films like Amistad and Mouse Trap releasing that same year.

The gossip column is dead. With one exception. In November of 1976, right after Rupert Murdoch bought the New York Post, he tasked James Brady with executing his broad concept for a full page of short news items filed by a variety of contributors and edited with a consistent, and consistently cheeky, voice. Brady and a few stringers quickly pulled together what Brady named Page Six because that’s the page where the column initially ran. Nearly 50 years after its debut, Page Six is the only gossip column still standing among those it competed with back then. It is also the most successful original brand to emerge from the Post, as well known as the paper itself; in the past week alone, Page Six appeared in an answer on Jeopardy! and figured into a plot line on Only Murders in the Building.

In 1994, Disney chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg resigned from the company and teamed up with Steven Spielberg and music executive David Geffen to form DreamWorks Skg, which later was rechristened DreamWorks Animation. Its first feature film, released four years later, was “Antz,” a brash, adult-oriented CGI production about a worker ant struggling to stick out in the communal colony he slaves away in. The film was successful — it was the first non-Disney animated movie to gross $100 million worldwide — but it was also overshadowed by comparisons to “A Bug’s Life,” Pixar’s film released that year which also focused on a misfit ant trying to save his ant colony.
That beginning encapsulates the perception of DreamWorks Animation in a nutshell — as the decidedly less ambitious, less artful cousin to Pixar. And it’s hard to say that reputation is totally unearned. DreamWorks is responsible for many lazily constructed, irritating animated movies, from “Shark Tale...

At New York’s City Winery two years ago, both sides of the late J.D. Souther were on display. In a tidy dressing room backstage, Souther, looking like a dapper Old West ranch owner in his tailored suit and white hair and whiskers, was regaling a few visitors with stories. Among them were several women who were longtime fans of the songs he wrote with, or for, the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt — and of the charismatic Souther himself. It wasn’t hard to see why: Adhering to his legend, Souther remained,...

Call them the concert illuminati. You’re at a show in an arena or stadium, watching Bruce Springsteen, Chris Stapleton, Coldplay, Madonna, or Weezer, when suddenly the darkness is dotted with dozens, hundreds, then thousands points of light — all from cellphones. The origin story of this concert ritual is a bit vague, but a new Bob Dylan collection offers one possible answer.
Last week, Dylan and the Band’s 1974 tour was commemorated with The 1974 Live Recordings, a hernia-inducing box set of more than two dozen shows recorded during that run.

The deal that is expected to install Skydance chief David Ellison as chairman, CEO and hopefully savior of Paramount Global is a labyrinth of entities, trusts and transactions. Also potentially complicated, assuming the deal closes sometime next year, is the question of control.
Skydance sources say 41-year-old David will select the board and run things entirely independent of his father, Larry Ellison, also known as the world’s fifth-richest man, worth an estimated $176 billion, per Bloomberg’s Billionaires Index tally on Sept. 18. But Larry, 80, will own the controlling shares. Having previously bestowed billions on David and his sister, Megan, Larry has now backed his son to the tune of $6 billion as David pursued his dream of running a legacy studio.
What role, if any, Larry will play at the new Paramount is not clear. But given his track record of significant Maga activity, there is certain to be scrutiny — though...

While Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is one of Warner Bros’ biggest theatrical success stories of the year, at over $264 million in worldwide grosses and counting, there was a period in the decade-plus the studio was mulling the sequel in which execs advocated for the film to go straight to streaming on Max.
However, “that was never going to work for Tim,” says Pamela Abdy, Co-Chair of Warner Bros. Motion Picture Group, in a new interview with the New York Times. “You’re talking about a visionary artist whose films demand to be seen on a big screen.”
But while Abdy and Co-Chair Mike De Luca, who assumed the top film posts at Warner Bros in 2022, were highly enthusiastic about getting the Beetlejuice sequel made, they knew its budget would have to come down, for a theatrical release to make sense. While Burton and team had projected a $147M budget,...

All four seasons of “Beetlejuice: The Animated Series” are now streaming on Tubi!
The animated series adaptation of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice originally aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC and later Fox, with Burton himself serving as the executive producer of the small screen expansion. Tim Burton's 1988 classic "Beetlejuice" is a delightful supernatural comedy about a lovable and recently-deceased couple trying (and constantly failing) to scare a very much living family of off-putting city folks from their home — all before the titular bio-exorcist comes in to wreak havoc. Now, after what seems like a lifetime of waiting, Tim Burton is back with a sequel that has become much personal to him in recent years.
That sequel, "Beetlejuice Beetlejuice" seems to grab inspiration from another, oft-forgotten "Beetlejuice" title — the animated series of the same name, which aired from 1989 to 1991 on ABC. Burton created the show alongside David Geffen (the producer who went on to co-create DreamWorks) and the animation production company behind "Ewoks" and "The Magic School Bus," among others. In the show, Beetlejuice is best friends with Lydia and they go on spoopy adventures, many of which parody popular films and TV shows. The...

The chairman of the 2028 Summer Olympics is feeling the heat, and it’s not from the giant torch that just arrived in Los Angeles from Paris.
It’s been two weeks since the publication of a damning report about Casey Wasserman, grandson of the vaunted Hollywood dealmaker Lew Wasserman, in which the talent agency owner was accused of having “serial” affairs with junior employees over many years. These reported indiscretions – on which Wasserman did not comment — set stars, political figures and industry insiders on edge as the Paris games ended last weekend and L.A. took the baton. It has also brought attention to his company, which represents music powerhouses like Kendrick Lamar and Chappell Roan and athletes including Megan Rapinoe.

Right up until his death in 2022, Bob Neuwirth was known to cognoscenti as a songwriter (“Mercedes Benz,” famously recorded by Janis Joplin), painter, recording artist, and onetime member of Bob Dylan’s inner hipster circle. The last thing he was known for was being famous, which his longtime partner, music executive Paula Batson, says was intentional. “He was very self-effacing in a way,” she says. “He didn’t believe in blowing your own horn. He loved promoting other people and helping them, but he wasn’t good at self-promotion.”

To this day, Shakespeare in Love winning the Best Picture Oscar over Saving Private Ryan remains the biggest and most humiliating snub in the Academy’s history. For the world out there, Steven Spielberg was destined for the most surefire and deserved Oscar win of the decade. At Miramax, however, Harvey Weinstein was playing fast and loose with his campaign to grab the Oscar away from right under Spielberg’s nose.

Saving Private Ryan was considered a masterclass in the on-screen depiction of war in all its brutality. Steven Spielberg’s film contained an element of such devastating realism that it became an instant classic and set a standard for all movies to come. On a rainy Nov. 15, 2023, a small group of music and film luminaries gathered at the Village Recorder, the famed studio housed in an old Masonic temple in West L.A. where everything from Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk to Snoop Dogg’s Doggystyle was recorded.
Among them were Leonardo DiCaprio, Martin Scorsese, Lily Gladstone, Joni Mitchell and Jackson Browne. They had come to celebrate the life of Robbie Robertson, legendary frontman of The Band, successful solo artist and prolific film score producer for whom the studio was like a second home. Robertson had died three months earlier after an excruciating battle with prostate cancer — long in remission but back with a vengeance in 2022 — that had spread to his spine and brain. He was 80.
Scorsese emceed the memorial, in which he tearfully spoke of his brotherhood with Robertson. The director, 81, was a longtime collaborator of Robertson’s, having helmed the seminal 1978 rockumentary The Last Waltz,...

Leave it to Stephen Colbert to figure out a way to equate Kamala Harris’ political success with box office numbers.
“Dig this if you will, daddy-o, from Sunday to this morning, the Harris campaign has raised a cool $126 million,” Colbert said on Wednesday night’s episode of “The Late Show.” “That means that Kamala Harris had a bigger opening weekend than ‘Twisters.'”
For comparison’s sake, Lee Isaac Chung’s standalone sequel to the 1996 disaster flick made $80.5 million during its first weekend. “Sorry, Glen Powell,” Colbert continued, taunting the film’s star while showing a shirtless picture of the celebrity. “Maybe you’d be more popular if you hit the gym, tubbo.” But the late night host didn’t stop there as he was seemingly struck by a great idea.
“Wait, hold on, no more ideas, this is it. Glen Powell becomes Harris’ running mate,” Colbert said to the applause of his studio audience.

Donald Trump literally dodged a bullet Saturday but the attempt on his life has already had unintended consequences both profoundly tragic and deeply ironic. Along with leaving one of Trump’s rally-goers dead and injuring two others, the failed assassination attempt appears to have mortally wounded the dump Joe Biden movement, at least as far as some Hollywood donors are concerned.
“We missed the window and there’s no appetite right now for any big moves that will throw more uncertainty and friction into this race,” a well-placed agency executive told Hot Source the day after the shooting. “I think the consensus among donors is that we just go with what we have and make our case and hope for a miracle.”
Over the last few weeks, since Biden’s 90-minute senior moment at his debate with Donald Trump, a wide swath of Hollywood A-listers publicly called on him to step out of the race.

One of the most unique honors in all of cinema is the Palm Dog Award, given annually at the Cannes Film Festival to the pooch who left the biggest mark on film that year. It’s a quirky award given at the most prestigious festival there is; but there’s nothing like that at the Oscars. Could you imagine the Academy voters nominating a dog? Well, they actually did – albeit in name only – thanks to Robert Towne. In the wake of Towne’s death this week, let’s take a look at the time he got so pissed off over Greystoke that he ensured his dog would be on the Oscar ballot.
In the ‘70s, Robert Towne was tasked to pen Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes, later taking on directing duties at his own insistence. Towne hadn’t directed before so in the time being, he took on Personal Best,...

Judee Sill’s story is one of raw talent and inner turmoil. Born in the 1940s, she showed an early gift for music even amidst a troubled family life. By her teens, drug use and crime saw her cycle through jail and the streets. Yet music remained her guiding light. Gaining recognition in the L.A. folk scene, Sill signed with Asylum Records in the 1970s, a star-studded label home to the Eagles and Linda Ronstadt.
While contemporaries found fame, Sill’s complex songs defied radio formatting. Her self-titled debut and Heart Food earned critical praise, yet sales stalled. Personal issues spiraled too, and asylum cut ties. By 35, Sill was found dead—her light extinguished—decades before her full genius would become clear. That’s where Lost Angel steps in to shine a light.
Directors Andy Brown and Brian Lindstrom piece together Sill’s rich legacy through archival material and interviews with collaborators.

Steven Spielberg is now a legendary filmmaker in the industry, having directed many acclaimed and award-winning films over the years. The filmmaker is arguably the most versatile director who does not limit his films to one genre. He has made dramas, sci-fi films, historical epics, thrillers, action adventures, and big-budget extravaganzas.

In the pages of her 1976 debut novel Interview with the Vampire, author Anne Rice introduced readers to a blonde-haired vampire named Lestat de Lioncourt, who was given the nickname The Brat Prince. He’s a character Rice loved writing about and her fans loved reading about, and he appeared in several more stories that make up the series known as The Vampire Chronicles. These days, Sam Reid is playing Lestat on AMC’s Interview with the Vampire TV show – but the first actor to bring the character to life on the screen was Tom Cruise, who was cast to play Lestat in director Neil Jordan’s 1994 film adaptation of Interview with the Vampire – a bit of casting that was quite controversial at the time, with even Rice herself speaking out against it.

As of Friday, Patrick’s Roadhouse was still closed. Plates and pitchers were stacked inside. The old-style coffee maker seemed ready to go, and there were even some bright green lights shining along the roof. But the place looked like a radioactive version of the Spanish Kitchen, frozen in time, plus dinosaurs, leprechauns and the Statue of Liberty on top.
Anyway, the eviction notice plastered among the stickers and shamrocks told the tale: Another stop on Hollywood’s erstwhile schmooze circuit has been gone since late April, and will stay gone unless the proprietor can come up with back rent and renegotiate the lease on a diner that’s marked the seaside end of Santa Monica Canyon since 1973. (There’s a GoFundMe campaign to help.)
Maybe it’s just part of the general Restaurant Apocalypse. Within a hundred yards of Patrick’s, Tallula’s, Mason and The Hungry Cat are all closed and empty.

The children of The Band’s Robbie Robertson have filed a lawsuit against the late rocker’s widow, claiming that she abused him financially to inherit part of his estate by coercing him to execute documents that are “oppressive, abusive and contrary to his expressly stated intentions,” according to legal documents filed this week in California.
Robertson’s three kids joined the trustees of his estate and trust, Adriane Hibbert and David Jackel, as plaintiffs in the case against Janet Zuccarini, who they say in 2023, while Robertson’s health and mental capacity was in decline, presented him with a plan to purchase David Geffen’s former home in Beverly Hills for $6 million in which, according to the suit, the two would be “equal owners and equal contributors to expenses.” However, he ponied up all of the $1.8 million down payment, according to the complaint.

The loudest voice in Hollywood last week belonged to Haim Saban. “Bad . . . Bad . . . bad decision, on all levels,” he roared, in an email to President Joseph Biden, sent via White House aides, denouncing the Administration’s announced plan to withhold bombs and artillery shells from Israel if it proceeds against Hamas in the population centers of Rafah.
About the policy itself, opinions vary (to put it mildly). Congressional representative Ilhan Omar happily declared that pro-Palestinian protests had worked. Former Biden spokesperson Jen Psaki said Biden should have used his “leverage” sooner. But by week’s end, Presidential surrogates, feeling heat from critics, were looking for semantic wiggle room; Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz said Biden was solid behind Israel, but had been guilty of ‘imprecision.’
In any case, it is impossible not to be impressed by the clear, emphatic and melodramatic declaration from Saban, whose brief missive—addressing “You Mr. President...

Singer-songwriter Judee Sill packed a lot of living into her 35 years, much of it hard. Drugs, reform school, losing her father when she was just 8. Of her mother she said, “She was mean on top of being dumb.”
In her late teens, in the early 1960s, she got involved with a bad hombre in Southern California and they pulled off a few armed robberies. In one incident, she reportedly told a guy behind a liquor store counter, “Okay, mother sticker, this is a fuck up!” Humor she did not lack.
As a child Sill learned piano at an upright in a saloon owned by her dad. She mastered other instruments, including bass and guitar. In juvenile hall – where she was sent after an arrest for forging checks – she played the organ. Somehow, through cracks in the unpolished concrete of a difficult youth, a flowering talent emerged. Say his name three times. Do it. Unlike Candyman, most people would love to summon Beetlejuice. He’s the Ghost With The Most. The film Beetlejuice became an instant classic when it haunted theater screens in the spring of 1988. Burton’s visual aesthetic, along with the amazing performances by Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder, captivated audiences. The film easily grossed over $75 Million at the box office on a $15 Million budget. People loved the character, and he even got a Saturday morning cartoon spin-off that kids loved, but it’s taken thirty-five years for them to get Beetlejuice 2 off the ground!

With more than 70 schools offering costume design instruction, what makes such a program stand out? Is it the proximity to film studios and theaters in the major entertainment hubs of L.A., London and New York? The variety of courses, from historical design to 3D fabric printing, or simply a well-rounded curriculum? Or is it the chance to network with award-winning alums and industry insiders, coupled with portfolio development and postgrad job placement?

Terry Press is officially reuniting with Steven Spielberg.
Amblin Partners has tapped the veteran and widely regarded Hollywood studio executive in the newly created role of president of strategy and communications. The announcement was made jointly by Amblin founder Spielberg and CEO Jeff Small.
In the newly created role, Press will join the executive team and will oversee the strategy and execution of all elements of marketing, publicity, consumer products and communication strategy for the film and television divisions of Amblin Partners and Spielberg. She is not filling the job vacated recently by top corporate communications exec Dan Berger.
Press — known for her wit and sharp eye — served as head of marketing for a decade at DreamWorks Skg, the now-defunct studio launched by Spielberg, David Geffen and Jeffrey Katzenberg. She oversaw the campaigns for Saving Private Ryan and best picture winners American Beauty, Gladiator and Universal’s A Beautiful Mind.

With early snowfall in parts of the country and the forecast of a possible El Niño pattern, all signs are pointing to a vibrant winter on the slopes. “Ski season is revving up, and like most of the past busy seasons, we are seeing high bookings and low availability already,” Tiffany Layne, CEO of Lavon Private Luxury tells The Hollywood Reporter.
Thanks to the Ikon and Epic season passes, members will discover even more perks this year. “These large passes continue to find ways to add value and make skiing more approachable for their members,” says Melissa Biggs Bradley, founder and CEO of Indagare, the members-only luxury travel company. “That means updated lifts in many ski areas, new terrain, Michelin-awarded restaurants and enhanced mobile apps.”
Here’s the latest on what’s new in Colorado, Utah, Idaho and elsewhere in the mountain west, as well as international destinations in Europe and Japan.

After a weekend of schmoozing with the Hollywood elite, Joe Biden departed Los Angeles on Sunday with his re-election campaign more than $15 million flusher.
The boffo fundraising figure for the weekend was confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter by a source close to Jeffrey Katzenberg, the DreamWorks and Quibi co-founder and Biden campaign co-chair. The haul would be a record for a president or presidential candidate on a single fundraising trip to Los Angeles, and tops the $15 million Barack Obama raised in 2012 at a reception held at George and Amal Clooney’s house.
The president and First Lady Jill Biden began their whirlwind 36-hour tour of Los Angeles after landing on the West Coast on Friday, eventually hitting six private fundraising events and also finding time to attend the shiva of TV icon Norman Lear, who died Tuesday at age 101.
The couple kicked off a weekend of fundraising activity by speaking at a Holmby Hills event.
