Trivia
During World War II he worked with the United States Office of War Information, writing for Voice of America. He was also a member of the Communist Party from 1943-56, receiving a three-months prison sentence for contempt of Congress in 1947. While incarcerated, he began writing his most famous novel, "Spartacus".
