Jill Browne(1937-1991)

Jill was one of televisions top soap stars as nurse Carole Young in ITV's
Emergency Ward 10 from 1957 to 1964. She was 19 when she started in the
series and 26 when she was unceremoniously dropped from from the cast. Her
career rapidly tailed away leaving her with a little stage work here and there
until 10 years later she was working in the service department of a freezer firm
dealing with customer complaints. Four days after she left Ward 10 she married
her 1st husband, John Alderton, who'd had a minor role of a doctor and divorced
after 5 years. She found work difficult to get because producers could only see her
in the nurses uniform and only had a brief run playing the hostess in a public house
show called Stars and Garters. She survived acute peritonitis and a near fatal
tumour and in 1971 married theatre producer Brian Wolfe. She died of cancer on
December 5th 1991 aged 54
