Storytelling in gaming has changed over the years with developers often aiming for cinematic or literary experiences. But according to veteran writer Richard Dansky, best known for his work on Splinter Cell: Blacklist, this approach might be one of the main reasons modern games fall short.

Dansky believes many developers fail to recognize the unique strengths of video games as a medium, attempting to make games that resemble novels or films rather than embracing their interactive nature. Instead of embracing the unique possibilities of video games, developers often constrain themselves with the limitations of traditional storytelling methods.

Principal photography has wrapped on “Think of England,” a satirical WWII drama from BAFTA-nominated writer/director Richard Hawkins.
The newly-announced film is set in the run up to the Allied invasion of France, when two British film projects are commission at the very highest level. For one, Winston Churchill himself insists that Laurence Olivier immediately embark upon a lavish production of Shakespeare’s “Henry V,” securing for him a state-of-the-art, 3-strip Technicolour camera and all of the available film stock.
As the description goes, “Think of England” is the story of the other, following a small and very disparate group of people sent to a remote Orkney island beach and tasked with a top secret mission — the making of pornographic films for the boys at the front. “For who knows how long this war still has to run, and fighting morale — as we learned only too well from the last one — is everything,...

One of the coolest and most beloved sub-genres for thriller, action, and drama fans is the spy genre and there’s a good reason. In a spy film or series, we get complicated and cool characters who put their lives on the line by going against numerous people and instead of always letting their guns talk they use more covert tactics, which are always thrilling to watch. So, Prime Video being what it is, it has a large library of content and also some of the best spy shows you can find and that’s what inspired us to compile a list of the best spy shows you can watch on Prime Video right now.

As we first reported on GameFragger.com, Netflix's Geeked Week has brought us many exciting first looks, including a thrilling teaser for Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.
Several live-action adaptations of Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell have failed to get off the ground over the years, so an animated series will need to suffice for now. It definitely appears to have nailed the look and tone of the long-running Ubisoft franchise, though.
The series will star Liev Schreiber (X-Men Origins: Wolverine) as the voice of Sam Fisher in what sounds like a perfect bit of casting.
Unfortunately, few plot details have been revealed but a coffin with "Douglas Shetland" engraved on it suggests this story will play out between the events of Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory and Splinter Cell: Double Agent.

There’s still a lot of scope for The Last of Us when it comes to the continuation of its story. We have gotten a TV series based on Naughty Dog’s video game already, but that doesn’t mean the games should just halt there.
Its gameplay was good and attention to details was simply amazing. But what made the lasting impact wasn’t those graphics but the narrative that follows throughout the series. That is perhaps the most vital factor in a game. Creators need more focus on it today.
Graphical Advancements May Come and Go, but a Story Will Remain Forever The Last of Us Part 2‘s ending still holds potential for a story continuation. Credits: Naughty Dog
If graphics are skills of an individual, storytelling is their talent. While the former keeps getting better with time, the latter comes naturally and is at the core of that person.

Liev Schreiber is Sam Fisher. Netflix has released a first-look teaser at its anime adaptation of “Splinter Cell,” which confirms that the actor will be voicing Tom Clancy’s iconic stealth specialist in the upcoming series adaptation of Ubisoft’s action video game franchise. A title was also unveiled: “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch.”
“Darkness is a good thing,” Fisher says in narration over the footage, revealed as part of Netflix’s Geeked Week fan event in Atlanta. “Once you get used to the shadows, you see bad people for who they really are. And they’ll never see you coming for them.”
The Fisher seen in the new footage sports a gray beard and seems to be older than the character’s appearance in Ubisoft’s “Splinter Cell” video game series.

In video game history, not many other titles have had as significant a hand in popularizing the stealth-action genre as the Splinter Cell series. Centered around the mysterious operative Sam Fisher, the series captivated players with its innovative yet engaging gameplay, tense atmosphere, and intricately deep narratives, achieving critical acclaim and gaining a devoted player base.
However, a revelation sheds some light on the development process of the first title that might shock the fans. Since the start, the development team had a strong negative opinion about the source material due to its political views. Even though the team’s goal was to incorporate Tom Clancy’s work into the game, it took some creative liberties and introduced some of its visions.

If you’re missing The Night Agent, welcome to the club! Let’s cheer ourselves up by watching one (or all) of these seven shows like The Night Agent.
Okay, don’t hold your breath, but The Night Agent season 2 may be here by the end of 2024! As we reported earlier this month, Netflix may have quietly confirmed the release window for when season 2 of the action series The Night Agent will arrive. And, if true, it’s soon! On the official Instagram account for the series, a follower asked, “Is Season 2 approaching really really fast or is it just approaching…?” Yes, fellow fan! You’re asking the real questions here!
To our surprise, the account responded and shared that November is “the anticipated release.” So you’re telling me new episodes will be here by Thanksgiving? What a gift! But not so fast. The response from the account no longer appears.

Oprah Winfrey’s imprimatur has made many an author’s career. Now, she’s wielding her literary star power to help anoint a new bookstore, co-founded by former WME literary agent Jennifer Rudolph Walsh, who previously led Winfrey’s “The Life You Want” arena tour in 2014. After a decades-long career of working with some of the world’s best-selling authors including Tom Clancy and Brené Brown, Walsh launched the new endeavor, Godmothers, on a tony strip in the seaside hamlet of Summerland, California, last weekend alongside her co-founder, philanthropist and cosmetics industry pioneer, Victoria Jackson.
“It’s really been stirring to the soul,” Walsh tells The Hollywood Reporter. “Victoria and I truly made manifest exactly what we dreamed of. Godmothers is a cathedral to us. It’s a home.”

Legendary star of stage and screen James Earl Jones has passed away at the age of 93, it has been confirmed. The Egot winning actor, whose inimitable baritone brought life to the likes of The Lion King's Mufasa and Star Wars villain Darth Vader, died this morning at his home in Dutchess County, New York, Jones’ representatives shared with Deadline.
Born in Arkabutla, Mississippi on 17 January, 1931 to Ruth and Robert Earl Jones, it may surprise you to learn that James Earl Jones — one of the great masters of oration across film, TV, and theatre — overcame great struggles to gain control of his voice as a child. Having moved from Mississippi to Michigan to live with his maternal grandparents at just 5 years of age, Jones grew up with a profound stutter, and has in the past gone on record describing how he was all but mute throughout primary and early secondary school.

There's a point in every baseball season when I have to talk myself as a Red Sox fan out of feeling like all is lost. We can't tell this early on if, in the end, the result will make us groan at the end of the season. We've seen our team overcome bigger obstacles before. Success could hinge on one or two factors or players. This is the pep talk I am also using to deal with the rumor that Disney and Lucasfilm may be reducing their output of live-action Star Wars shows.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege, Ubisoft’s tactical Fps, is a game that has defied the odds of time. Approaching its ninth anniversary, Siege has long been a staple of the gaming community, known for its intense gameplay, intricate strategies, and diverse cast of operators.
However, as the years go by, fans can’t help but wonder: is it time for a sequel? The answer might surprise you, as Creative Director Alexander Karpazis has some strong opinions on this matter that could change how you think about the future of the game.
Despite its age, Rainbow Six Siege still holds a special place in the hearts of many gamers. But with recent player count numbers showing a decline, the question of whether a sequel could breathe new life into the franchise is now more pertinent than ever.

When it comes to stealth games, few titles have left as indelible a mark as Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory. Released in 2005, this third installment in the Splinter Cell series not only pushed the boundaries of what was technically possible at the time but also introduced a bold new design philosophy that would go on to shape the stealth genre for years to come.

Back in 2021, actor/comedian Bob Odenkirk – who is best known for playing the role of con artist turned lawyer Saul Goodman on the TV series on Breaking Bad and its spin-off Better Call Saul – made the unexpected move of playing a retired government assassin in the action thriller Nobody. Doing the unexpected worked out, as Nobody was a success, making $57.5 million at the box office on a budget of $16 million. That was enough to get a sequel greenlit – and now that production has started on that sequel, we figured this was a good time to put together a list of Everything We Know About Nobody 2!

Scripted by John Wick writer Derek Kolstad, Nobody saw Odenkirk playing Hutch Mansell, an office worker and family man who proves to be a capable fighter when facing off with a group of drunk criminals on a bus. He’s a bit too capable,...

Paramount Television Studios, which has produced shows such as “Reacher” on Amazon Prime Video, Showtime’s “A Gentleman in Moscow,” HBO’s “Station Eleven,” the “Sonic” spinoff “Knuckles,” the series remake of “Fatal Attraction,” and more, is shutting down amid layoffs and cost cuts at Paramount Global, IndieWire has learned.
Paramount is on Tuesday, August 13 beginning layoffs of up to 15 percent of its global workforce, with many of those coming from the U.S. and eliminating other redundant roles. There have been two major rounds of layoffs at Paramount Global this year, with Paramount Television Studios as a primary target in both. After its team was gutted in the February 13 cuts, as part of today’s reductions, the division is being shuttered altogether. It will cease operations after 11 years at the end of this week. Paramount TV Studios President Nicole Clemens and CBS President and CEO George Cheeks, who oversees the division, announced the decision in separate memos (You can read both below.)
Ftvs’ shutdown will result in the exit of 20-30 employees. All current Ptvs series and development projects will be folded into CBS Studios.
“To be clear, this is not a decision based on how Ptvs performed. This move is the result of significant changes in the TV and streaming marketplace and the need to streamline our company,” Cheeks said. “Under Nicole’s leadership, this studio consistently...

Paramount Global is shutting down its namesake TV studio as the company embarks on a major round of layoffs.
Paramount Television Studios will cease operations at the end of the week, president Nicole Clemens and Paramount co-ceo George Cheeks told staff Tuesday morning. Clemens will exit the company, and all current series and projects in development at Paramount TV Studios — including Reacher, Apple’s Time Bandits and the upcoming Cross at Prime Video — will move under the CBS Studios umbrella.
Paramount announced last week that it would lay off 15 percent of its U.S. employees — on top of about 800 layoffs six months ago — as part of an effort to save $500 million in costs ahead of a planned merger with Skydance. Cheeks and fellow CEOs Brian Robbins and Chris McCarthy told staff earlier Tuesday that layoffs would begin that day and take place in three phases over the remainder of the year.

Wow. This isn’t your Netflix’s Daredevil. Visceral, cinematic, bloody — this is a Daredevil in the way that James Bond got a reboot with Daniel Craig.
The first look at the series was revealed Friday for the crowd at D23 in Anaheim.
And there’s a big homage to Heat with Charlie Cox’s Matt Murdock and Vincent Donofiro’s Kingpin meeting in a diner to verbally draw their boundaries.
“If you step out of line, I’m going to be there,” says Murdock.
Kingpin, laughing, wonders if it’s Daredevil talking or Murdock.
In another shot, a prison inmate tells Murdock, “You don’t understand, people needed you.”

In the high-octane world of action thrillers and drama, Sean Bean has acquired recognition for his commanding portrayal of villains and rugged characters in iconic roles like Boromir in The Lord of the Rings and Ned Stark in Game of Thrones. Therefore, known for his tough and resilient screen presence, one might assume that injuring Bean would be a challenge. Unless, of course, it’s Harrison Ford.

Apparently, the adaptation of Tom Clancy’s Patriot Games stood out for one such unexpected chapter in its making, where Harrison Ford accidentally left a memorable scar on Sean Bean. Rachel Maddow is getting into the feature documentary business.
The MSNBC host has produced her first feature-length doc through her production banner Surprise Inside, with the cable channel acquiring the project. MSNBC will debut the film next month.
The film, From Russia With Lev, chronicles the scheme that led to former President Donald Trump’s first impeachment. “It follows the much, much larger-than-life journey of Lev Parnas, a Ukrainian-born hustler and former small-time mafia operator whose random, almost accidental association with Trump and Trump attorney Rudolph Giuliani took him around the world, and ultimately to prison,” per the logline.
The film will have its world premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music, which is playing host to MSNBC’s Democracy 2024 event on Sept. 7. The premiere is one of the signature pieces of the event.
Billy Corben (Cocaine Cowboys: The Kings of Miami) directed the film, with Maddow serving as executive producer.

Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six Siege had become one of the most popular squad-based first-person shooters on the market for a while, with several gaming streamers making it their go-to title to broadcast. Since then, though, the game has witnessed quite a few pitfalls that have hampered its progress.
The title may not have been perfect at launch, but consecutive updates have been changing the experience repeatedly, leading to more issues spawning within the game. It was expected that Ubisoft would address these issues, but the company may be taking a more drastic approach.

Often, popular console and PC titles that have been ported to portable platforms become watered-down versions of their former selves. The best mobile titles, however, skirt this pitfall by forgoing direct adaptations in favor of producing fresh spins on the source material. Rainbow Six: Smol fits as firmly as a flak jacket into this latter category.
Make no mistake, this Netflix-exclusive take on Tom Clancy’s long-running tactical shooter series is locked and loaded with familiar elements. But while Smol tasks you with breaching doors, diffusing bombs, and rescuing hostages, it also has you doing so from behind the skills of a cardboard soldier that’d look more at home on the back of a cereal box than on the battlefield.
But we’re getting ahead of ourselves. If you’ve previously enjoyed Rainbow Six’s hardcore action but felt it would benefit from more, say, bullet-propelling gnomes, read...

Tom Clancy's Jack Ryan has had an unusual history on screen. Alec Baldwin was the first actor to suit up as the CIA analyst, playing him in 1990's spectacular submarine thriller "The Hunt for Red October. That film would have theoretically served as the first of many Baldwin-as-Jack-Ryan films, but the actor was overshadowed by Sean Connery in that movie, and negotiations with Paramount Pictures for Baldwin to return in a sequel got so testy that the studio ultimately replaced him with Harrison Ford in 1992's "Patriot Games." For those who have never seen "Patriot Games," it's the type of movie where a guy sternly says "get me hostage rescue at Quantico, now!" into a phone. We're talking top-tier 1990s Dad Cinema, here.
In the summer of 1988, two years before "The Hunt for Red October" hit screens, Paramount had paid a reported $450,000 for the rights to author Tom Clancy...

Forty years ago, author William Gibson brought the world a cyberpunk novel called Neuromancer – and an adaptation of that story has been trudging its way through development hell pretty much ever since. Versions of a feature film adaptation have passed through the hands of directors like music video maker Chris Cunningham, A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors and The Blob‘s Chuck Russell, Torque‘s Joseph Kahn, Cube‘s Vincenzo Natali, and Deadpool‘s Tim Miller. An adaptation of Neuromancer is currently moving forward as a 10-episode series that’s set up at Apple TV+, and we’ve previously heard that BAFTA Award-nominee Callum Turner of Masters of the Air and The Boys in the Boat will be playing the lead character, Henry Dorsett Case. Tom Clancy's first Jack Ryan novel was "The Hunt for Red October," a 1984 thriller about a Russian submarine and the CIA Agent, Ryan, who has to assure the U.S. military brass that it might have a friendly Russian defector on board. Jack Ryan worked for the CIA, was a former Marine, and had previously been both a stockbroker and a history professor. He wasn't so much an action hero as a nerdy guy in a suit who could engage in action should the situation call for it. In Clancy's books, Jack Ryan would eventually become president. The Jack Ryan novels became seminal airport reading for a generation, and Clancy authored or co-authored 14 of them before his death in 2013. After Clancy's death, other authors perpetuated the character, and even expanded the series to be about Ryan's son, Jack, Jr. All told, there are 36 novels in the Ryanverse, with...

A leaked casting call displayed details about a new Ubisoft project named ‘Project Gone’. These details hint at a tactical military game with a storyline around the complexities of war. Moreover, the leak adds to the ongoing theories about the Tom Clancy shooter franchise, particularly Ghost Recon, which some fans feel has strayed from its tactical roots.

For many gamers, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell is a series that sneakily talks about some of the best memories they had with a stealth game. Especially a title set in a universe where being silent and deadly were the coolest personality traits a professional killer could have.
But, did you know the idea was originally not something that was in favor of the masses? The game took a different spin on the franchise and introduced gamers to a world they weren’t anticipating.

Back in 2011, GameInformer wrote about the back stories of those who worked on multiple projects for the studio. Among these, Tom Clancy’s Splinter Cell certainly stood out from the rest.

Ubisoft is best known for popular titles such as Far Cry and Assassin’s Creed. While the company has mostly stuck to open-world design in recent years, there was a time when it experimented. Longtime fans of Ubisoft fondly remember its early success, Splinter Cell.
Starring the spy Sam Fisher, voiced by Michael Ironside, Splinter Cell was one of the most phenomenal stealth-action games of that time. However, its success can be attributed to a unique development approach, which wouldn’t work today.

When Splinter Cell was first conceptualized and released all the way back in 2002, it wasn’t just another stealth action game. The developers at Ubisoft Montreal had something quite different in mind.
According to an interview, the game’s creators were not fans of Tom Clancy’s novels. In fact, they sought to create something that would stand in stark contrast to the typical Tom Clancy style. The result was a game filled with deliberate tropes and a touch of irony.

In an interview with Gameinformer from last year, the lead designer of the original game, Ed Byrne, revealed a lot about the game. This included the fact that the game’s protagonist Sam Fisher, as well as other aspects of the game, were supposed to be a little ironic.

Ubisoft completely forgot about Splinter Cell, a once highly popular franchise. These games, starring Sam Fisher, were quite innovative in terms of stealth mechanics.
The original team and sound designer revealed in a recent article that they nearly abandoned several mechanics, a decision that would have fundamentally altered the game’s identity. Apparently, the studio was on the verge of discarding the way sound influenced the protagonist’s discovery, thereby affecting one of the game’s primary features.
