ABOUT THIS EPISODE

When a 911 call goes wrong and a young man goes missing, it falls to Malcolm and Seong-Jae to investigate the responding officers when Internal Affairs' internal politics leave the case compromised and the officers aren't willing to talk. But with Seong-Jae on the wrong side of the thin blue line, tensions just may turn violent before the detectives find their answers--and only their trust in each other will keep this investigation from hitting a dead end. Will Malcolm and Seong-Jae's savage love survive the test, or will this case end in self-destruction?

With Sade mysteriously vanished once more, taking one of their major assets out of commission, it's anyone's game. Especially when their missing young man becomes a dead young man...and no one will admit who's truly responsible for his violent demise.

Slender. Angry. (Part) Asian.

Yeah, that about sums me up.

Hi. I’m Cole. Xen. Whatever you want to call me; both are true, and both are lies. My pen names are multitudes, my nicknames legion. Tall, bi/queer, introverted author of a brown-ish persuasion made up of various flavors of Black, Asian, and Native American. I’m cuter than Hello Kitty, more bitter than the blackest coffee, and able to trip over cats in a single half-asleep lurch; I’m what happens when a Broody Antihero and a Manic Pixie Dream Boy fight to the death, and someone builds a person from the scraps left behind. Beardless, I look like the uke in every yaoi manga in existence; bearded or not, I sound like Barry White. About half my time is spent as a corporate writer, and the other half riding a train of WTFery that sometimes results in a finished book. Romance, erotica, sci-fi, horror, paranormal; LGBTQIA and cishet; diverse settings and diverse characters from a diverse author.

Sometimes I shout about things on the internet. Usually intersectional feminism and marginalized voices, and whomever’s punching down in those directions today. Sometimes human sociology, the psychology of sex and gender, and my own gender non-conforming arse (he/him, by the way). Sometimes I get really mad at Stephen Hawking and nerd out all over the place about hairy black holes, and believe it or not, that’s not a terrible pun or even worse innuendo.

That’s it. I’m a huge dork. My humor’s so dry it could empty oceans. I’m a native Southerner from the New Orleans area with zero Southern accent; I’m a mess of multi-ethnic, multi-cultural, multi-lingual influences; I have two cats. I wake up at daft hours of the morning to go running. I crochet terrible, lumpy things that never really turn into anything. I’m older than you think I look. I’m much more shy than my fury makes me sound (signifying gods only know what, but probably nothing). Recently I decided, at 36, that I needed to restart my life and move cross-country, so I tossed 75% of my possessions in the trash and randomly trucked it to Seattle. I’m in love with books and music and technology, and they war with each other for dominance and sometimes come together in a beautiful confluence. Most of the physical books I own are strange, obscure, out of print, overseas imports, or any combination of the four. Most of the physical books I used to own were destroyed in Hurricane Katrina, and have been replaced with the infinite library on my Nook. My wallet has a dangerous attraction to anything with pages; it flirts and teases and gives its all, until there’s nothing left but emptiness and ruin.

There will always be things you don’t know, and I won’t tell.

But ask me late at night over live music in a seedy bar, and you might just get an honest answer.

they're one of my top-top-top couples, like, EVER. and the ending gave me so much anxiety. 😟

as i'm writing this, i've already binged book 11 as well and loved it sm!! i rated it 5 stars for the angst, the tension and EVERYTHING lmao and all i have to say is, seong-jae and mal are my life and i'm so glad they're there in my life in one way or another.

You, Malcolm thought, his heart so full its overflow felt as painful as weeping, are more beautiful than I deserve.

i totally ship anjulie & gabi, okay? they're the cutest. even if i'm still not the hugest fan of gabi bc i usually hate those characters which somehow might spoil the romantic relations between the mcs lol, but she's pretty decent for someone like that. 😌

the meeting-the-family scene literally melted my heart so fucking much. i had butterflies in my stomach and was laughing and giggling the entire time!! but i foresee some angst after that ending (and we do get it in the next book, just sayinnn... and i loved every minute, the one after this is literally my fave installment so far fr!!).

❝You’re trembling,❞ he whispered. ❝And I’ve only kissed you.❞

the way seong-jae melts for mal and vice versa will never fail to wreck me fr. 😭 i adore them with all my heart.

side note: fuck off, thompson, plss 😚🔪

p.s. - why do the phones keep interrupting them when they're having their ✨moments✨?? it's fucking annoying is all i'm saying.

❝Remember when I said I wouldn’t let you fall?❞
Seong-Jae nodded tentatively. ❝I remember.❞
❝I’m holding on to you for dear life, Seong-Jae… but I need you to hold on, too.❞

i'm loving continually discussing (fangirling really no joke) over our love for seong-jae & mal, the loves of our lives, with you, hanna!! 😭 ily <33

Shit just got real.

description

Mystery was 100% on another level. Loved it! Criminal Minds and CSI all rolled in one.

The writing is so engaging and flows so well.

description

I will just leave this here:

“Say the things you always want me to say. Say the words that tell me you want me.”
Fuck. Malcolm gasped “Do it,” he breathed, his voice breaking. “Fuck me.”
“How much do you want me to hurt you?” Seong-Jae purred, and Malcolm’s pulse jumped wild and erratic.
“As much as you need to,” he whispered, and steeled himself for his last surrender.

Seon-Jae lay awake for many long hours, surrounded by the sound of Malcolm’s heartbeat. And wondering if that heart would still beat for him, if Malcolm knew what Seong-Jae truly was.

Getting obsessed with this series while I’m doing my finals might be my best and worst decision ever. I’m so glad the first season is complete and I don’t have to wait to read the next episode. I’m not a patient girl and I need to see that my babies are okay!

"This is just the start of the storm... and it's going to get worse before it gets better."

Truer words were never spoken... This starts to feel more and more like some kind of chess game with Sila moving the playing pieces into position before making his next gambit. And move he did... I wonder if there are more pieces at play than I already assumed. *side-eyes Sade*

Speaking of Sade... I still don't know if I want to hug or murder them. Probably a combo of both, actually, and yet I feel like the love story between them and Huang could be as epic as the one between Mal and Seong-Jae. Although, I have no friggin' clue how this could possibly pan out...

The case Mal and Seong-Jae are assigned to this time starts innocent enough, although it soon turns into investigations of police brutality, abuse of power and questions of loyalty and even if they can solve it due to their once again impressive mental ping-pong, I have a feeling that it might come back to bite them in their gorgeous butts.

I'll spare you my gushing about Mal and Seong-Jae this time. Yep. Really. Completely. Totally. Argh, okay, okay, sorry I have to. Ngh... just a tiny bit. I gobbled every shared moment between them up like a black hole because...

clinicallymoi: “ Penny Dreadful â€

Sometimes it felt as though they said more with their bodies than with their words; talking was for shared secrets, for navigating the common boundaries of the space they made together...
But touch was for the emotions that had no words.

... it's the small scenes in particular that make their relationship so special. The smoothing down of a tie. The resting of temples together. The linking of their hands. A kiss.

And we all know this cannot possibly last, right? Not with that ending, gahhh...

4.25 ~THEY MAKE ME BELIEVE ALL LOVE IS A LIE UNLESS IT'S THEM~ STARS!

Thoughts:

Book/episode ten had my anxiety going and stomach in knots. First in anger at police brutality, and next because our main villain is finally making an appearance and not being shy about it anymore. The main comfort I have in between the angst is the softness and sexiness of our duo Malcolm and Seong-Jae.

After a small reprieve from big cases in books eight and nine, book ten hits you with a difficult case that takes up a big (but not overwhelming) portion of this one. We are back in the groove, but with more trouble in sight.

It wouldn’t be me reviewing a series without telling you what you get, so here you go:
-Mal being a flirty little shit and Seong-Jae pretending he despises it
-"I don't want to take you for granted. I want to be with you. And I want to make it abundantly clear." AHHHHHHHH! *MAJOR HEART EYES*
-A belt loop pull (makes me weak)
-Meet the parents cuteness overload
-Supportive and understanding boyfriends
-"Morals first, cock second."
-Dirty talk galore, rage sex, a switch scene (I AM THRIVING!)
-Side character spotlight
-”fall with me” (close enough to I love you for now *sobs*)
-The unofficial but official we sort of live at each other’s places, so here is a drawer and some closet space talk!
-Seong-Jae and Malcolm being their annoying and precious selves as always!

I really enjoyed book ten. It gave me just the right amount of plot and Mal&SJ scenes. I think the confusion of everything going on as well as this not being my favorite case didn’t bring this to a 5 star rating, but our boys get 5 stars from me every time!

Per usual, I CANNOT WAIT FOR WHAT IS COMING NEXT, BUT I’M SHAKING AND NERVOUS!

P.s. a request for the names and addresses of anyone that ever even tried to hurt SJ because Malcolm and I are coming! (Not that he can’t handle himself though! It’s just the principle of it!)

Quotes:

And Malcolm half wondered if he would chase Seong-Jae away by loving him too much, instead of not enough.

“Remind me again why I like you?” “Because I’m insufferable, and you’re a masochist.” “I…” He scowled. “I do not have an argument for that.”

“I will deal with whatever happens.” “Whatever happens,” Malcolm said, that tight grip promising solidarity, support, “you won’t deal with it alone.”

“Do you think that’s the kind of life most people want? Ordinary and unremarkable.” “I think it is the kind of life people learn to want. Many people begin with grand aspirations, but once they discover the hardship, the complexity, the struggle that comes of such things…” He lifted his head, looking at those slate blue eyes so close. “‘Ordinary’ begins to look like ‘happy.’” “There’s nothing wrong with that.” Malcolm smiled slightly, warm eyes creasing. “Do you want to be ordinary, Seong-Jae?” “I do not think so,” he said. “But I do want to be happy.”

“You are distracting me…” “I like distracting you,”

You are my shelter

“You’re trembling,” he whispered. “And I’ve only kissed you.”

“I could kiss you for hours if that’s what you want, omr.”

You, Malcolm thought, his heart so full its overflow felt as painful as weeping, are more beautiful than I deserve.

“Remember when I said I wouldn’t let you fall?” Seong-Jae nodded tentatively. “I remember.” “I’m holding on to you for dear life, Seong-Jae…but I need you to hold on, too.”

Well, love me tender and call me Elvis, I knew we were heading into choppier waters after our last CI outing but I couldn’t have called how things were going to start playing out.

description This is just the start of the storm… and it’s going to get worse before it gets better.”

Seriously.

description

I could go on and on about why this episode hit all the right spots and believe me it does—I barely moved from start to finish—but I’m not going to as we’re at the point where me rabbitting away could so easily ruin everything. All I’m going to say is this is a series to invest in, the romance between these men is everything from touching to sexy-as-hell, the cases sock a punch and are filled with twists and turns, and the humour so perfectly dry and brilliant.

description Maybe the amount of sex we have is why our solve rate is through the roof.”

And after that ending, I’m now climbing the walls. Roll on May and episode eleven.

Well, that was an exciting and jam packed episode!!! I’m almost scared to read on 🤭.

The wheels are clearly in motion ... From the case (so pertinent in today’s world) and its potential fallout, the most exquisitely written intimate scenes, that ugly altercation😥😡, Sade’s entanglement, Gabrielle’s proximity to one Sadistic Injurious Low-life Asshole (aka SILA), meeting the parents to Seong-Jae’s unexpected houseguest 😱. Aside from all the drama, I need to know: WHAT IS IN THAT FILE???

The case once again, incredible❤️.
Many times wearing a uniform does not indicate anything. It is only a symbol that supposedly indicates "justice" and ensuring your safety, but it is false, it ends up being the opposite. What really matters are your values, your honesty, what matters is WHO you are as a person and what you decide to do with what happens.
There are a lot of cops just like in this episode and it sucks😤.

On the other hand... Seong-Jae and Mal are so cute and the scenes in this episode... *faints*🥰.

Seong-Jae pressed his lips together. “Remind me again why I like you?” “Because I’m insufferable, and you’re a masochist.”
“I…” He scowled. “I do not have an argument for that.”

I am very nervous for the next episodes, I feel like the next crash is close👀.

BACKDRAFT was an interesting read for me. On the one hand, I was very meh on the case. As I said before, I much prefer cases that involve a bit more drama and hit the guys a little bit harder… However, I will say… I commend McCade for actually incorporating and infusing his cases with realism. I like that McCade never sugarcoats or glorify the BPD and he constantly encourages us the audience to question Malcolm and Seong-Jae as cops.

On the other hand, BACKDRAFT absolutely nailed the growing romance between Seong-Jae and Malcolm. As always, these two have this pure chemistry that damn near leaps off the page. Moreover, I like how bringing Malcolm and Seong-Jae together has been a clear and definite process. Both men are coming into this new relationship with a ton of baggage. And despite how infuriating it can be sometimes, I appreciate that things aren't magically great between them. They still have their communication issues, and that's okay. They're still working on their relationship. That said, there were a lot of sweet and steamy moments in this book, so… do with that information what you will.

All in all, BACKDRAFT was a worthy installment to the Criminal Intentions series. We saw a lot of progress between Mal and SJ, and while that ending had me wanting to yeet my Kindle, I refrained. I think my main "issue" with BACKDRAFT was the case. It wasn't my favorite, but that's okay… as established i'm not really here for the cases. Side-note, I cannot believe that once again I'm almost finished with season one!! I can't wait to dive into season two, I swear.

❝Why are you so hot when you’re so bossy?❞
❝Not even I have enough psychological training to unpack that statement.❞

Ahhhhh every single time I think "there is no way Cole McCade can top that last book" I am proved wrong and want to backhand own damn self for doubting McCade's amaziningness! Like this series is just so so SO good!

“I don’t want to take you for granted. I want to be with you. And I want to make it abundantly clear.”

And Malcolm half wondered if he would chase Seong-Jae away by loving him too much, instead of not enough.
---> Malcolm truly is the best man ever! He is the heart of this series.

The case was great! Mal and Seong-Jae are honestly one of my all time favorite couples I've ever read about! The side characters are solid and really add to the series and have actual depth. And on top of it all McCade has an underlying mystery that is rapidly being uncovered as the first season comes to a close! I am so in awe of how McCade does such a good job keeping me invested in Seong-Jae and Malcolm as a couple. They had some mad unresolved sexual tension in the first 6 books and I was so scared that once they got together I wouldn't be as invested in them as a couple. HA I was worried for nothing because somehow I'm even more invested in them together! I love seeing both men open up to each other little by little falling in love and learning to trust one another.

You are my shelter
--->and thus the feels are released! Seong-Jae emoting is just the best.

You, Malcolm thought, his heart so full its overflow felt as painful as weeping, are more beautiful than I deserve.

Basically this was just a rant of how amazing Cole McCade is as an author and an official PSA demanding that everyone read this series!! This series just gives me all the emotions and I don't want to see Seong-Jae or Malcolm hurt! Let these men have an amazing vacation somewhere where they don't need to bring their phones!

Thompson scowled, flicking a resentful look at Seong-Jae. “And? Do you have any demands?” “Only one,” Seong-Jae said, inclining in a bow. “Have a lovely day.”
--->As much as I love Seong-Jae when he emotes I also love snarky Seong-Jae as well ;)

“I take deep pleasure in intimacy with you, Malcolm. More than merely physical pleasure. I am not driven by sex in my attractions…but I am quite fond of sex in my attachments.”

“People do not love me. People think I am a cold, rigid automaton who speaks oddly and makes them uncomfortable and frequently says the wrong thing in delicate situations.”
---> Reading this just made me want to b-slap anyone who ever made him feel like this!!

I'd say the only reason not a full five stars is because it took me a bit to get into this one but once I did it was full steam a freaking head!!

...........also that ending though!!! Shit just got freaking real!!! I am really hoping and praying that Seong-Jae doesn't shut Malcolm out!! Like bro remember you need your partner!!

⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱*Secrets Can Be Their Downfall*⋰⋱⋰⋱⋰⋱

It's been a month since Seong-Jae was forced to end a man's life and he and Mal are now back in duty. This time dealing with two police officers in questioning. A person is missing, body cameras turned off and on, blood on the scene, and a scene that is tempered with. Can Mal and Seong-Jae find out the truth? Overall, I liked it. It was a bit boring at times but I still feel like Seong-Jae and Mal is growing closer and closer, even if Seong-Jae is keeping a big secret that might hurt/damage their relationship.

Then there is Sade who I don't know if I like or not. I don't like how they treat Mal but at the same time I understand it. Gabrielle showed a new side this time and I liked it. That woman is intelligent. Though one question I keep wondering after That said, I really don't like Sila and I hope he gets a brutal ending. I hate manipulating characters and I definitely don't like that he keeps outsmarting Seong-Jae. He needs to be dealt with and I'm guessing in order to do that, Seong-Jae needs to trust Mal. On to the next one. Tomorrow that is, I'm way too tired and I need to go to bed.

Seong-Jae pressed his lips together. “Remind me again why I like you?”
“Because I’m insufferable, and you’re a masochist.”
“I…” He scowled. “I do not have an argument for that.”

The Characters:
The list is a bit long so I've put it in a spoilers tag.

He lay awake for many long hours, surrounded by the sound of Malcolm’s heartbeat.
And wondering if that heart would still beat for him, if Malcolm knew what Seong-Jae truly was.

Quick basic facts:
Genre: - (Adult) Contemporary Romance (M/M).
Series: - Series, Book Ten.
Love triangle? -
Cheating? -
HEA? -
Favorite character? - Malcolm ‘Mal’ Khalaji.
Would I read more by this author/or of series? - Yes, I think so.
Would I recommend this book/series? - Unsure.
Will I read this again in the future? - Unsure...
Rating - 3 stars.

Bichinho insuportável do caralhooooooo 🤮🤮🤮🤮⚠️⚠️⚠️⚠️

Wow...another 5* I’m absolutely loving this series.

This one is longer. It has a satisfying crime. Super hot Malcolm/Seong-Jae scenes. And Sila. Edge of the seat stuff. Especially when he’s talking to Gabrielle.

I can’t wait for the next book.

And this is how good this series is. Hitman 3 is out today. I always drop everything for Leland. But now I’m torn...I don’t know if I can leave Malcolm and Seong-Jae. Even just for the day.

I love this series! Each book just gets better and better, and this was no exception. Mal and Seong-Jae are such complex characters, it's fascinating to just listen to them talk or think, interact with each other. While working they finish each other's sentences, they get each other. In private both men finally relax and show their feelings. Seong-Jae can be cranky one moment then he melts into Malcolm. Malcolm is a steady presence, he is unwavering in his love and support of Seong-Jae. I loved those sweet and tender moments between them. Passion was explosive. It was intense, hot and a little bit wild.

While the case itself is not a mystery, it raises a question of loyalty. What do you do when a grievous mistake was made? Do you stay true to yourself or do you lie? Where do you cross the line when lives are at stake? Malcolm and Seong-Jae uncover the truth. It's fascinating how they think, detect the smallest inconsistencies. It all comes down to one point: do you cover for the brothers in blue or do you get justice for the innocents?

I loved the multiple POVs that made this story multidimensional. Sade's fate is beginning to take shape, Sila is making his move, Gabrielle's presence finally makes sense. The best parts of the book are very personal. We see Seong-Jae flustered and nervous, but the love between these men is getting stronger, and it will get worse before it will get better. The hornet's nest has been stirred. It was freaking awesome! I can't wait to read the next one! I highly recommend it!

As Malcolm said ...

Sometimes the "F" word is the only thing that will convey your emotions in a certain situation. This book merits that word and plenty more where that came from. WTF is going on? Seriously, if I did not have the next instalment to jump into, I would have committed a feckin' crime myself.

... he can swear he smells Nigella. Flowers.
The flowers in his mother's garden, blue and green and delicate and strange.

There was a lot going on here. We have the crime and I love their interactions at work, their interviewing techniques ...

"All it takes to be a traitor is to tell the truth."

We have the ghosts lurking in the background ... who to trust?
Seong-Jae? I really need to know your story, your past ...

"This is just the start of the storm ... and it's going to get worse before it gets better."

"How much do you want me to hurt you?"

"As much as you need to."

"Us versus them ..."

I know, I know, vague, as usual. But, honestly, the story is building - hopefully to some revelations. And they will be stark, I am sure. But I am enjoying the journey ...

I know my MALCOLM and SEONG-JAE are changing with every review (especially Malcolm) ...

I keep telling myself I'm going to take a breather and read a book by another author annnnd nope, sorry no can do. This author has consistently delivered a string of 5 star reads that have blown my mind so it's straight on to the next book for me. A different author? As Seong-Jae would say, "Tch"!

This case utterly wrecked me, more than any of the previous crimes. Cole McCade did a phenomenal job of portraying the devastating reality of our police system, that while there are good police officers (like Malcolm and Seong-Jae) who try to uphold the law and protect civilians, the culture of "protecting your own" among police allows for abuse of power and police brutality to occur. It made me so mad that Seong-Jae and Malcolm were ostracized for doing their JOB. It was truly painful to read this one and I really felt for the victim and their family. I was so happy that Seong-Jae and Malcolm were able to solve the case!!

Once again, the sweet moments between the two MCs made me swoon and ease the pain of the crimes. I just want Seong-Jae to be honest with Malcolm as the strain between them continues to grow and I'm afraid that Malcolm will hit a breaking point :(

Leaving aside the really good case in this episode, the scorching hot scene, the fluffy parts between our boys, the intriguing Sade case in the background, Gabrielle being a BOSS with that ‘squirrely little white boy’.
Curt Bonnem, the narrator, did one hell of a job doing the ‘suspect freaking out confession’ part 👏👏 it was so good he deserves all the praise 👏👏👏

This is getting so much more interesting!

Everything. From the unexpected encounters to quiet hand holding moments. Fierce exteriors to silent hearts. And the mystery that keeps getting more and more coiled.

Buddy read with Banseh🙂

This series just keeps getting better and better ... I adore Malcolm and Seong Jay and the connection between them in this book was palpable. I hate that Seong Jay is keeping a secret but I trust Malcolm will support him regardless, lord I hope so ! Can’t wait for the next one.

4.3 stars 💫

The case was utterly surreal, and it was creepy. The mystery was great, and Cole is doing a great job.
But it was not the mystery part that didn't make me hold of the book but the other bizarre situations.

The lunch between Lucas and Gabe was really awful. Lucas was such a horrible, scary man, and he scared the crap out of me by doing nothing.
My stomach flip-flopped when I read the chapter where Sila and SJ confronted each other. WTF. the only thing Sila did was turning others' lives into destruction. How dared he was.
I was so scared that what was happening with Sade. They've got into a gigantic mess. Besides, they didn't let anyone help them.
Oh wow, I'm so afraid that what is Yoon life at all before coming to Baltimore. Sade has been saying Mal to stay away from SJ because he is not a person Mal should be with. Would Mal find out everything about SJ? 🤧 Would every conflict between Mal and SJ go to start from now on?

Everything is a mess right now. I wish the next book would answer my every question.

That gif was my reaction, basically, while reading the last 10 percent of this book.

I think it took me slightly more time to read this one than usual because I was dreading the promised angst. And BOY does it come! But mostly at the end. It's building throughout this but then...oh BOY does shit get REAL.

Seeing as we only have 3 eps left in this season - and the way Cole talks about seasons 2 and 3, this Sila storyline might get wrapped up by the end of season 1, although I could be wrong - I'm scared but also of COURSE I have to keep reading and I wonder what Sila will do next and how they'll defeat him - however that is. I don't think they'll kill him because ***Here lies a major spoiler. Don't read if you don't want to be majorly spoiled***

I feel like the ending was so OMG, that it almost overshadowed the case, which was a very important one because it dealt with "accidental" shootings by police, and what they do to cover it up - only these cops went even further than they usually do in real life (well, lets face it, cops in real life claim they thought they were in danger and get away with it...ugh)

It was also interesting that it was Seong-Jae and Malcolm's first case after coming back after Seong-Jae having to shoot and kill a murderer. But while Seong-Jae's was justifiable and used to save a life...these two cops were not justified in the least, and what they do to cover it up is even worse.

We got some interesting developments with Sade too. I'm still not quite sure where their and Huang's story will go, if Huang will pull his head out of his ass or what, but right now it's pain for these two, and I dunno know if Huang is playing a long game or if he really just got into deep and has given into this drug lord life. I mean he says other kingpins would kill him if he tried to get out, but...blegh. He still is on my shit list. And he is hurting Sade, which, no! They are ultimately a good person and they saved Edmond Bishop for non-nefarious reasons.

I feel like so much happened in this episode, which tends to happen when a season in TV show is coming to an end and everything is coming to light and shit is happening to get to that climax and so on and so forth.

I did tag this as a cliffhanger because lbr, it totally ends on one. ***major spoiler alert***

SO YEAH. Angst city, indeed. But we couldn't have the light and fluffy forever. We knew Sila is going to be making his move soon, is in the process of it, and shit will have to come to light soon. I MEAN! ALSO!

I also wonder if the Christmas special we got with these two happens in like...the midst of these last three eps or after, because in that special they are pretty happy, or at least okay, and things after this book will nOT be okay! And this book stated it's happening in early December, so...we shall see.

Anyway, WOW. What an installment. I'm scared for the angst but also ready. I hope *cough cough nudge nudge* Cole won't break these two up at any point while this shit is going down but I can see it happening because angst, it is a-coming. I just hate break ups and would rather see them work through this shit together, even this very big rough patch coming. But sometimes break ups are necessary (just that a lot of romance novels have break ups happen for shitty, melodramatic reasons for the sake of drama)...look, I just don't want these two to break up because they're amazing together and I love them.

Like, even with the rising angst and that ending, these two showed throughout this book how great they are together and how perfect for each they are. Also, yes...Mal bottoms, and it was glorious and intense. I don't think Malcom will bottom often in their relationship, but I think it'll happen on occasion.

Also I loved how emotions were high in that scene and Seong-Jae was obviously feeling dominant and in other romance novels...consent might not have been made sure it was given, even if it was there...like they wouldn't have asked, they wouldn't have made sure...but this one did and I was so happy about that. Seong-Jae didn't "lose his mind to lust" or some other bullshit, he was able to take a moment and wait for Malcom to say yes, to step back and wait for the okay. I love that far more than if Malcolm had been nervous but ultimately enjoyed it but Seong-Jae had soldiered ahead anyway without asking.

Anywho. This book was a LOT and I loved it but also I must now prepare myself for the angst.

I needed to get this down.

His old wolf. His grouchy crow.

They actually thought that. Fuck, if I’m not so painfully soft.
And all the cuddling they did.

“Malcolm pretended not to notice how he leaned toward Malcolm’s touch like a cat being stroked.”

“Seong-Jae pushed himself up a touch more until, instead of resting his cheek to Malcolm’s chest, he instead tucked his head under Malcolm’s jaw…”

Oh very well. So be it. I’m a whore for these moments.

~~~~~~
Book Ten was remarkable and amazing!! A complete package. Impeccable. Malcolm and Seong Jae did it again. Marvellous cooperation and intelligent work together.
The case was a fresh one, this time. Something new. Not that I am looking forward to read about new crimes, but I don’t mind getting to know the world through these words that introduce me to all kinds of gory details about everyday offences. But my mind is now at peace, because Larson and Andrews broke the fuck down(finally!!) and will serve their time, for the way they screwed up. And Asshole Thompson was an interesting addition in this book. All the small moments of bickering at him made me feel so happy inside;)
And lo shit what ever is happening to Sade? Their chapter made me almost tear up. This is so upsetting. Not knowing what is holding Huang captive and Sade in turn, is terrible.
Lastly, I beg and beg Malcolm to NOT open that folder. Please take my advice and do not jump at it, Malcolm.
And that fucker, Sila. I wish he be kicked out of this story as soon as possible. Though I know it ain’t gonna happen.
Excuse me for being explicit.
“Some of us understand fucking loyalty around here.”
Seong-Jae finally broke his silence—a silence that had been worrying Malcolm, when Seong-Jae was a stock-still scarecrow all in black, remote and withdrawn. But now he turned that penetrating, contemptuous gaze on Andrews, biting off quietly, “And some of us understand we were never meant to be more loyal to each other than to the people we protect.”
OMG!!!
“Malcolm filled him. Malcolm consumed him. Malcolm made him more than he could ever be alone, and he only wished he knew how to show him with something other than the surrender of a twisting, breaking body that struggled to give its all.”
What a shit storm that was! Things are getting pretty intense all around.
Malcolm and Seong-Jae’s relationship got as real as it could get. I LOVE Malcolm. The moment he opens himself up completely to Seong-Jae you know there is no turning back for him. I have never read such a level of intimacy between two men. ❤ But what later unfolds is pretty crazy and I have no clue if Malcolm can hold them together or if everything will just unravel.
Leading into Backdraft you can sense the dread building with Seong-Jae. The evil bastard Sila was tightening his invisible hold he has on him. I hate what he does to Seong-Jae. I. LOATHE. HIM.
And wtf is going on with Sade? One minute I’m think good things about them the next I just want to strangle them.
The case was pretty intriguing and intense. CM can write some amazing stuff!!
This is such an amazing series. I’ve started #11 already. With that ending how could I not!!
