Tatiana (tatiana_g) Welcome to YA Book Club's third Reading Challenge!

Rules

Duration: September 1, 2011 - November 30, 2011.

We are a YA Book Club, so all books should be young adult.

You have 3 months to read 10 YA books that satisfy following requirements:

1) In honor of Banned Books Week held during the week of September 24 - October 1, 2011, read a book which was banned or challenged. An array of information can be found here.

2) Read a book that is a new release published in September, October or November of this year. Goodreads offers lists of the most popular new releases by month, they might help you to make your choices - September, October and November. (If you have difficulties obtaining these new books, you can read a release from the same months in 2010).

3) Read a book set in fall or takes place during a school year or in school.

4) Read a book which has a name in its title, for ex. Anna and the French Kiss, The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks.

5) Read a book that earned a starred review from Kirkus Reviews or any other professional publication. Kirkus reviews can be located here - past and upcoming.

6) Read a book which touches upon the subject of teen sexuality, whatever aspect of it you are comfortable with (or not) - pregnancy, virginity, homosexuality, etc.

7) Read a book which is a mystery, thriller, horror or has a crime at its center. Some ideas here

8) Read a book which has an artistic teen as its main character - painter, musician, writer, dancer, singer, etc.

9) Read a book that you are interested in only because of its cover - pretty, disturbing or just plain catchy.

10) Read a book written by a duo (or a group) of authors, for ex. Will Grayson, Will Grayson, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. It can also be an author/illustrator collaboration. Or, of you can't find one, a book with multiple POVs.

Everything should be done on this thread - your questions, your plans, your progress.

Happy reading!

message 5: by Nadine (new)

Nadine Yes! I am in, I usually stumble over surrently running challenges, so I am glad to be in time!

Yes, 3 months to read 10 books.

message 7: by Husnaa (new)

Husnaa (xohusnaaxo) | 11 comments Then I'd definitely have time :D that's nothing (:

message 8: by Husnaa (new)

Husnaa (xohusnaaxo) | 11 comments Also, can we read a book that was challenged in like 2010/2009? Sorry to bother you. xD

message 9: by Emily May (new)

Emily May (emily-may) Is Fingersmith by Sarah Waters young adult?

message 10: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana (tatiana_g) Emily wrote: "Is Fingersmith by Sarah Waters young adult?"

I've read it and, trust me, it's not YA.

message 11: by Tatiana (new)

Tatiana (tatiana_g) Husnaa wrote: "Also, can we read a book that was challenged in like 2010/2009? Sorry to bother you. xD"

Sure, any challenged book, as long as it qualifies as YA.

Annalisa (goodreadsannalisa) Tatiana, I don't know how you always manage to come up with a fresh list each time. Sounds fun. I'll have to get thinking. I already have a few ideas. Since we're reading Jay Asher, I thought I'd point out that he is coauthoring a book coming out this fall called The Future of Us. That's 2 categories it could fill.

Annalisa, my explanation is that I spend way too much time looking for new books, reading reviews and searching through various "lists," all in a quest for the next great read:)

I look forward to reading The Future of Us. It looks very interesting.

Annalisa (goodreadsannalisa) :). I look forward to reading it too. I keep watching the library's website, waiting for them to list it so I can put my hold on it.
