Hm, I wasn't sure if the two titles starting with "The Shell" were truly the same book. Each subtitle exist on WorldCat too. There are now two versions:
The Shell, five hundred million years of inspired design. (with 6 editions) and
The Shell: Gift of the Sea (with 5 editions)

Hmmmmm. I think I am going to have to come back to this. The Library of Congress it says the author should be spelled as C.C. Martindale, or more precisely: hdg.: Martindale, Cyril Charlie, 1879-1963; usage: C.C. Martindale. I believe Goodreads policy is also to use the most complete name the author has published under while alive, which would mean: usage: Cyril Charlie Martindale. I am going to dig into this (but not this evening)

Sorry I missed your note re #771.

My understanding is that, as an example only, should a name such as C.C. Martindale be the primary author, the more complete Cyril Charlie Martindale would be the secondary author on those books on which the name is spelled out. But I don't feel confident about what name subsumes others.
