Reader's log, Stardate 96682.25.

It's been thirty days since the arrival of the New Year, and I've exceeded the 2.5 books per month (or bpm) quota for January. With February looming on the horizon, optimism and hopes are riding high – just as they have in the past. Ideally, this transient buoyancy will keep me ahead of schedule and provide a buffer for the impending summer months before it fizzles out, but who can say what the future will hold?

Reader's log, Stardate 96957.81

It's been one hundred and thirty days since the New Year, and I have just barely corrected my course. It was only thanks to the terrible realization of how far that I'd strayed and a renewed determination to redouble my efforts that I've been able to make up for lost ground.
My success earlier in the year fostered a sense of complacency and laziness, which could easily have handicapped my progress for the next few months – perhaps even the rest of the year. With the summer slog ahead, it's time to aim for the second star to the right and straight on 'til morning!

Reader's log, Stardate 97207.45

Good news and good morning! It has been two hundred and twenty-one days since the dawn of the New Year, and a day past ninety since the last log, and I am now only one book behind! And it is chiefly thanks to a, uh, colorful assortment of questionable characters – namely revolutionaries, thieves, and detectives. It’s just as Shakespeare once said: “Misery acquaints a man with strange bedfellows.”

Indeed, it is strange because not only have do I have to thank them for their role in my successful attempt to get back on track, but they have also helped me achieve a smaller goal for this year – getting through half of my TBR priority list. It has been something that I have been meaning to do for some years now. But this year, that meaning was turned into action, and from action came sweet joy and relief.

With these victories under my belt, I look to the future with anticipation and optimism.
