A.W. Just wondering what's your favorite movie or television show that featured an interracial couple.

message 2: by A.W. (new)

A.W. One of my favorites is The Secret Laughter of Women starring Nina Long and Colin Firth

Paganalexandria | 4065 comments I have to say, even though this season of True Blood has been a little disappointing. I do like that they keep giving Sam Merlott women of color as love interests each season. Though it does make me feel really old to see Jurnee Smollett so grown up. In my mind, she's always the little girl from Eve's Bayou.

message 4: by Kim (new)

Kim (kimgm) | 1032 comments Fave movies: Something New, The Secret Laughter of Women, My Beautiful Laundrette (M/M)...I must be sleepy, I can't think of any others right now but I have a bunch at home on dvd. I will post the rest when I am back in Stockholm.

TV shows: Scandal, Sleepy Hollow (because we KNOW Ichabod and Abbie are going to get together someday), Liberty Heights...

message 5: by A.W. (new)

A.W. I loved the series October Road back in the 90's Penny Johnson and Tom Berenger were a couple it was a great show. Another one My Last Day Without You starring Nicole Behari and Ken Duken. A Bronx Tale is another one I love.

message 6: by Dana (new)

Dana | 40 comments Tv shows?
Spartacus, sleepy hollow, Merlin, scandal, misfits, rookie blue...thats all I can think of off the top of my head but there are more!

How could I forget My Last Day Without You, which I've been telling everyone else to watch whenever they get a chase? :)

And then, Dana, you hit the nail on the head with Misfits! :D

message 8: by A.W. (new)

A.W. The Bodyguard Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner, and The Best Man Holiday Nia Long and Eddie Cibrian.

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 1216 comments Does anyone remember the film "Young Soul Rebels" by director Isaac Julien? Great British film with a male IR relationship.

message 11: by Elle (new)

Elle Rush (ellerush) | 24 comments Eureka (SF program). I miss it so much.

message 12: by A.W. (new)

A.W. TFPD I remember Young Soul Rebels with Jason Durr and Eamonn Walker I forget the female actress Sophie total loss for her last name but yes that was a great show.

message 13: by A.W. (new)

A.W. Elle Eureka was another good one. The actor from there is the May tag Man. Every time I see him in those commercials it makes me miss that series.

message 14: by Tamara (new)

Tamara Philip (tamara_philip) | 102 comments Glee is a terrible terrible show these days but Samcedes was the best part. Sam Evans - Chord Overstreet and Mercedes Jones - Amber Riley.

message 15: by Justine (last edited Sep 22, 2014 02:49PM) (new)

Justine | 1350 comments A-W wrote: "Elle Eureka was another good one. The actor from there is the May tag Man. Every time I see him in those commercials it makes me miss that series."

Eureka was good. One of the best ever. Was sad when it finished. I used to look forward to Jack and Allie.

message 16: by Tesha (new)

Tesha | 1 comments Scandal is the best so far, but anyone remember the original 21 Jump Street? Holly Robinson and I think Peter DeLouise were in a brief relationship. A throwback reference, I know. Others were Blair Underwood in both Days and Nights of Molly Dodd and Sex in the City. Julianne Moore and (Allstate commercial guy) in Far from Heaven movie.

message 17: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir | 1450 comments My favorite IR pairing on tv so far has been Eureka. From the pilot Carter was all about Ally. It took her a little longer. And in the meantime, her ex-husband Nathan was also kinda hot. Also the show is just so darned good as well.

A close second is Brad and Jane from Happy Endings. They were hysterical and perfect together. Both type A personalities, he was a metrosexual and she was a such an Alpha dog. I loved them to bits. I was so bummed that show got cancelled, but it was soo funny.

Honorable mentions go to: Vee and Kevin from Shameless. They rock. They are unashamedly sexy and rather low rent, but damn I like how good-naturedly raunchy they are.

message 18: by A.W. (new)

A.W. Tesha yes I remember both those shows.

message 19: by Indigo.plume (new)

Indigo.plume | 105 comments The parents in that Disney Channel program Lab Rats are cute.

message 20: by A.W. (new)

A.W. Did anyone watch Lincoln Heights? Cassie and Charles were a really cute couple. I loved that show.

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

My favorite is Viva and Rocky from "Some Girls". Even though they're teens, I love their relationship. The girl who plays Viva is the Uk's best kept secret. She's not only gorgeous, she's hilarious! It's a British show but if you could find it, it's worth it.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

I just got I to Shameless! I hope to agree with that one!!!

message 23: by Carolin (last edited Sep 29, 2014 10:01AM) (new)

That movie has one of the most awesome soundtracks too.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 1216 comments Absolutely! One of my favourite geek chick films too!

Justine | 1350 comments Tesha wrote: "Scandal is the best so far, but anyone remember the original 21 Jump Street? Holly Robinson and I think Peter DeLouise were in a brief relationship. A throwback reference, I know. Others were Blair..."

Scandal is annoying. The on again off again supposed relationships of the main characters have become tiresome not to mention inane. I've tuned out of Scandal after last off again.

There was Taye Digs and the surgeon on Private Practice.

message 27: by A.W. (new)

A.W. Big Shots was another series I loved that was cancelled Nia Long and Michael Vartan were a couple also Joshua Malina (now on Scandal) starred in it and Dylan McDermott who will ALWAYS be super duper hot to me from the first moment I saw him in Steel Magnolias.

Savannah- Quad Motherin' Book Readin' Diva (quadmom2005) | 1549 comments I HAVE to sit and watch A Bronx Tale any time I see its on. Love Bobby any damn way and him being a DEVOTED lover of the sistahood just makes him even better.

Something New makes me itch. Lead was everything I hate while the hero was everything I love so at least its typical IR LMAO!
There is a flick I have been meaning to check out at Redbox....John Stamos and Tika Sumpter. Can't recall the name right now.

message 29: by A.W. (new)

A.W. Savannah I absolutely love A Bronx Tale! Yes I loved Simon Baker's character in Something New. The name of that movie with Tika Sumpter and John Stamos I think is My Man is a Loser.

message 30: by Gigi (last edited Oct 23, 2014 03:40PM) (new)

Gigi (g-altagracia) | 229 comments Maybe you all know this list already, just got it: http://www.jeffandcorey.com/ELIG.html (bwwm romance movies and
it's user-contributed)

Lot of movies I didn't know of, so I'm looking forward to the Christmas Holidays: gonna do some binging.
(I just realized that there is not a rating system with this list so I'm not sure whether the selection is any good)

Some Girls' first season is now on HULU+ and it looks like you can see all three seasons on Youtube. I have just binged S1 & S2.

It is really cute and I like the relationships between the girls. And DIVERSITY!! yay.

message 32: by Ines (new)

Ines Johnson Anyone watching The Flash? The Flash has had a crush on a black woman since he was a child. They've been bestfriends all their lives and now she's dating a white man while The Flash continues to lust after her.

Savannah- Quad Motherin' Book Readin' Diva (quadmom2005) | 1549 comments Loooooove The Flash and was cheering Barry on when he finally fessed up in the winter break finale lol

FYI Sleepy Hollow/Nicole Beharie fans. Her indie IR flick My Last Day Without You airs on Up Network Monday 12/29 at 9 EST.

message 34: by Jmelfi (new)

Jmelfi | 105 comments My favorite TV shows with IR couples: Hill Street Blues (Daniel J. Travanti, Veronica Hamel), LA Law (Jimmy Smits, Susan Dey), NYPD Blue (Jimmy Smits, Kim Delaney), Eureka (Salli Richardson-Whitfield, Colin Ferguson), The Wire (Lance Reddick, Dierdre Lovejoy). Movies with IR couples: Strange Days (Angela Bassett, Ralph Fiennes), Belle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Sam Reid), Wuthering Heights (remake with bm/ww), Solomon & Sheba (Jimmy Smits, Halle Berry), Die Another Day (Pierce Brosnan, Halle Berry), Monster's Ball (Halle Berry, Billy Bob Thornton), Romeo Must Die (Jet Li, Aaliyah), Anna & The King (Jodie Foster, Yun-Fat Chow), Original Sin (Antonio Banderas, Angelina Jolie), The Mask of Zorro (Antonio Banderas, Catherine Zeta Jones). There are many other tv shows and movies I like, but the list would be too long.

message 35: by Jmelfi (new)

Jmelfi | 105 comments Other IR movies I liked:
Chef (Jon Favreau, Sofia Vergara), Anna (Mark Strong, Indira Varma), Princess Ka'iulani (Qorianka Kilcher, Shaun Evans), and Wonderful World (Matthew Broderick, Sanaah Latham).

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 1216 comments Strange Days is one of my all-time favorite films. Just having Skunk Anansie on the soundtrack and the fuck rock band Strange Fruit made my day. Plus Ralph Fiennes and Angela Bassett were smokin' hot together. I also liked it because the film really made you think about some serious issues like policing and racism, without being preachy. It's like one of those "a-ha" type films.

That's one of my favorite soundtracks.

Brian (brianmc) | 6 comments There was a 2006 movie called Something New that caught my eye. With Simon Baker from The Mentalist and a gorgeous woman who has played many roles since. Lucky Simon....

LOL. Have you had a chance to peep the avatar for this group?

Also re: Strange Days. I saw the movie in theatre 3 times. Loved it that much. I love film noir and Strange Days is a text book film noir in theme and structure. But also....Angela Bassett! Come on, those braids, her bad-assery. I fell in total love with her in that movie. I have it on disc. I feel a re-watch coming on.

OMG, Angela Bassett was all kinds of uber bad-ass in Strange Days. And just think, a multicultural cast and the world didn't blow up. Then again, we're talking L.A.

It seems in certain ways Hollywood has regressed, when it comes to taking chances. I honestly think even Halle Berry wouldn't have gotten roles like Swordfish in today's climate.

The FountainPenDiva, Old school geek chick and lover of teddy bears (thefountainpendiva) | 1216 comments I think you're right. I look back at the 70's, 80's and 90's shows and see a lot more diversity back then than I do now. Even a lot of children's programming had diverse casts and we never thought about it. One of my favourite sci-fi shows, Space 1999, had a diverse cast on the fictional Moonbase Alpha and they weren't window dressing either. Of course, that was the Brits for you, lol. They don't seem to have the same issues with diversity that Hollywood does.

On the other hand, with the rise of the internet, who really needs Hollywood that much anyhow? There are quite a few popular web-series that are doing well and have Hollywood knocking on their door--Awkward Black Girl being one of them.

message 45: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir | 1450 comments Rutina Wesley (last role was Tara from True Blood) has been cast in a recurring role in Hannibal (NBC). She is the love interest of Richard Armitage's character.

http://tvline.com/2015/01/23/rutina-w...

I love her, glad to see she is back on tv. This will def make me jump Hannibal closer to the top of my 'I need to watch this show one day' queue.

message 48: by TinaNoir (new)

TinaNoir | 1450 comments Netflix has 'A Twist of Faith' starring Toni Braxton. Features an IR and interfaith romance between her (Baptist -- i think)) and the white hero who is Jewish. A little angsty and a lot spiritual. But cute and sweet.
