I just started this evening. The point of view is interesting being death. I like the commentary on colors and the brief observational poems throughout so far. It will be interesting to see if I find that the style gets annoying as it goes.
Sorry I’m slow! I actually started this a few days ago, but I have been making pretty slow progress.

I finished part 3. I like the dailiness of it and the simplicity of children where they are starving but a single piece of candy makes life good. However, the heavy handed foreshadowing is getting annoying. I am liking the brief interludes and they read more clearly in book form versus the ebook I tried to read first.
I have to go to class now but I made it to part 7 and now I finally really want to keep reading. (view spoiler)

I loved this book! It's a book about a young girl who learns how to read and steals books during WWII. Her family helps hide a Jewish man during the war, and there are several times when I think she's going to get caught but it doesn't happen. Great story.

Page 52: I like the narrative voice! But it's not totally clear why death would know the story... Oh well...
Page 72: just to say I am reading it and liking it, but it feels like a book I might read a bit slowly, sorry!!! :)

It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery ...
Set during World War II in Germany, Markus Zusak’s groundbreaking new novel is the story of Liesel Meminger, a foster girl living outside of Munich. Liesel scratches out a meager existence for herself by stealing when she encounters something she can’t resist – books. With the help of her accordion-playing foster father, she learns to read and shares her stolen books with her neighbors during bombing raids as well as with the Jewish man hidden in her basement before he is marched to Dachau. This is an unforgettable story about the ability of books to feed the soul.
