Vikki (silverstarz) Hi guys - for those of you who haven't had a chance to check out the October challenge, see this link:

Anyone interested in taking part, can you leave your name and which event you're interested in - Reading Like A Banshee, Halloween Book Hunt, or both.

message 5: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) I can't wait! I'd like to participate in the Reading like a Banshee :)

message 6: by Lara (new)

Lara | 119 comments So the page goal is optional?

message 7: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) Yup!

message 8: by Lara (new)

Lara | 119 comments Great! I always have trouble estimating how many pages I'll read.

message 9: by Vikki (last edited Sep 27, 2013 05:29AM) (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) The page goal is optional but may make it more of a challenge if you set a personal goal for yourself. I'm still thinking about my goal, I like working under a bit of pressure. Or maybe I'm a glutton for punishment!!

Lara - are you in for Reading Like A Banshee?

message 10: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) Also if anyone is considering changing their book goal can you also mention that here - the book goal is used to work out the read-a-thon ratio.
Thanks :o)

message 11: by Lara (new)

Lara | 119 comments Yes, I'm in as a Banshee ;-)

message 12: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I'm in as a Banshee!

message 13: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) I've added another sheet onto the spreadsheet where you can fill in the number of pages you read each day. Might make it easier to keep on track with your total.

message 14: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) Any more takers?

message 15: by Wendelin (Alex) (last edited Sep 30, 2013 11:48AM) (new)

Wendelin (Alex) | 97 comments Yep! Fellow Banshee ;)

message 16: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) I'd like to join. I might be very slow until the 10th as I have an exam then (so I am desperately cramming everything I can at the moment, but I don't think my text book pages count...) But the last 9 days I am finally free of study, so might actually catch up.

So I'd probably opt for Banshee too if that's OK?

message 17: by Reed (new)

Reed Raab (reedraab) Hey all! I'm up for being a banshee!

message 18: by Lara (new)

Lara | 119 comments Looks like we'll have a great crew this month.

message 19: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) Great, all updated on the spreadsheet :o)

message 20: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) 2 days I'm so excited! Still unpacking and setting up me new house, so not sure how much reading I'll get done over this first weekend. Buttt I'm going to the beach for a holiday from work Oct 11-14 so I should get some great reading done then!

message 21: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) I'll be starting The Racketeer tomorrow on page 129.

message 22: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) I've finally started 11.22.63 today. I'm probably gonna read another book at the same time - this book is just too chunky to throw into my bag & take with me!

How are you finding The Racketeer so far Rebecca?

message 23: by Lara (new)

Lara | 119 comments The challenge starts at 11am for me tomorrow. Unfortunately, I won't be able to start reading until evening. I'm not sure what I will read either. That will take a bit of thought.

message 24: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) I'll also be starting on page 347 of A Clash of Kings

message 25: by Rebecca (last edited Oct 03, 2013 06:57PM) (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) Vikki - I really like it so far! It hooks you in right away. I am really love Grishams law-themed books, which isn't usually something I'm that interested in.

Lara - I have that problem ALL the time. I almost wish I didn't start A Clash of Kings for this because its a slowish read for me. BUt it is really good!

message 26: by Nancy (new)

Nancy I am reading The Tao of Martha. Heading to bed but will be reading for a little bit so won't post my starting page until tomorrow.

message 27: by Wendelin (Alex) (new)

Wendelin (Alex) | 97 comments I'll be starting with War and Peace. Have the strange vibe to run and hide :D

So, a little over an hour to go, guys! Let's have fun some books for breakfast/lunch/dinner/midnight meal!

message 28: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) I will be starting with Orwell's 1984 - I am already about 20 pages in, so I'll go from there.

message 29: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) Yesterday was a crazy day, but I read 41 pages in Game of Thrones yesterday! I need to look at what I read for my other book.

This weekend will be nuts and probably not much reading, but during the week I will!

message 30: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) Listened to 30 pages of The Racketeer. Will update the sheet!

GO TEAM PURPLE!!

message 31: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) I just got 34 pages read but was at a friend's wedding reception last night.

message 32: by Lara (new)

Lara | 119 comments I read 1/2 of a book I got through the First Reads program: The Memory of Blood A Peculiar Crimes Unit Mystery (Bryant and May #9) by Christopher Fowler .

message 33: by Nancy (new)

Nancy Updated the spreadhsheet for my reading yesterday. Read 97 pages of The Tao of Martha My Year of LIVING; Or, Why I'm Never Getting All That Glitter Off of the Dog by Jen Lancaster .

message 34: by Wendelin (Alex) (new)

Wendelin (Alex) | 97 comments Gah. I'm honestly not sure what I read yesterday and what today, so I'll add it all to today if that's okay?

GO, GO, GOOOO!

message 35: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) Yeah that's fine! It's the end total that matters

message 36: by Wendelin (Alex) (new)

Wendelin (Alex) | 97 comments yay. added my pages read, but am for some reason unable to change overall pages read from my phone.

message 37: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) Good start, we're already over 1000 pages :o)

message 38: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) I have just added my pages for both Friday and Saturday
Friday - 1984 - from p.30 to p.66
Saturday - The Absolutist - from p.11 to p.52

Sorry, so much going on I didn't get a chance to update it before. Do we need to update any other threads with this? I am a bit lost as to which threads we need to add to.

message 39: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) If you just update here then I'll do the rest :o)

message 40: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) At the moment looks like we're 2nd of 6 teams that have posted pages read so far. Good start, let's keep it up!

message 41: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Schneider (triciaschneider) | 26 comments I missed this. Is it too late to sign up? I finished a book yesterday that was 208 pages. And today I started reading Frankenstein by Mary Shelley .

message 42: by Vikki (last edited Oct 06, 2013 09:08AM) (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) That's ok - you can still join now! can you update spreadsheet with pages read etc.

message 43: by Tricia (new)

Tricia Schneider (triciaschneider) | 26 comments Okay, thanks! I just combined the pages since I can't remember how much I read on each day. I'll keep track daily now. :)

message 44: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) I read p.53 to p.138 of The Absolutist last night. Spreadsheet updated...

message 45: by Vikki (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) Thanks :o)

message 46: by Wendelin (Alex) (new)

Wendelin (Alex) | 97 comments Added pages read of yesterday and today.

Mmh. My copy of White Night by Jim Butcher has 495 pages. All listed editions have other page numbers. Should I stick with the closest?

message 47: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) I think for this you can just use your own edition (after scanning the Mods rules). So however many pages you read in your actual book works

message 48: by Vikki (last edited Oct 07, 2013 04:51PM) (new)

Vikki (silverstarz) I'll check with the Mods.... Personally I think you should be allowed to go with whatever pages are in your copy. Otherwise you're loosing out on at least 10 pages. (I think your closest listed is 481 pages...)

message 49: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (rebeccasg) I will try to step up my reading this week. Ive had mounds of reading to do for class and it's putting me a little behind.

message 50: by Nancy (new)

Nancy (nancyhelen) Oh, @Kamica - what a nightmare with the laptop. I hope you get it sorted out soon!
