it was amazing

Was so glad to finally read Homegoing. It was chosen as a book club read. I had previously read Transcendent Kingdom and liked that as well. And had only heard good things about this book.

The author is a very talented story teller. Beautifully written passages and memorable characters all intertwined by their African ancestry. African folktales, sense of place, history of slavery and racism among blacks and whites & amongst blacks themselves. Very interesting from a historical perspective and more importantly the human experience.

The author was able to write a very multilayered, multigenerational and brilliantly executed book.

I think in hindsight I am most impressed by what was able to be conveyed in 300 pages.

The family tree at the front of the book came in handy periodically.

Will definitely look forward to more by the author. I was just reminded by other reviewers that this was a debut. That makes it even more incredible.
