Ugh, this series is pissing me off yet I can't stop reading it. I'm continually galled by the sexist and overbearing attitude of nearly all the male characters. This is beyond the general alpha male trope, this is actively dismissive and devaluing the supposed 4 strongest witches in their lands. Kristen Ashley has reduced a literal warrior princess into a female robot who is taught by other women to not fight with her king but to learn to "support her man". She does so not by attending military strategy or government planning meetings with her husband who is set to make huge changes in his region but by diving head first into her wedding planning, socializing and interior decorating. I shit you not, her husband is making big changes and plans for the land where she will be queen but instead of helping him she spends her days buying pillows to add color to the palace.

Even Mars whom I previously had the most affinity for has decided to join the brotherhood of misogynistic Kings by trying to control his wife's powers, making huge decisions for her without even trying to involve her and essentially making her powerless.

True remains the only shining hope among the men and even then he is a relatively dull character.

Kristen Ashley continues to do a disservice to the character of Serena, the real kick ass warrior princess who was apparently brought to her knees by cock and now is changed for the better. Give me a break, she couldn't have thought of a single way to change Serena for the better than the dominance of a man? There is so much wrong with this. Serena is a bitch but instead of explaining why she is the way she is and developing her as a character, Kristen sends a big dicked dominant to literally fuck her brains out and make her his docile pet.

Yet, I continue to be hooked by the story and need to know the conclusion.

Rose27 Definitely agree with you on Serena!!!

Celticrose I totally disagree about Elena being reduced because of her focus on material things. She chose her tactics based on what the specific situation needed. When there was a battle, she fought beside her "man", but when it came to a battle for the hearts and minds of the PEOPLE, arrows and swords weren't going to do any good. She needed to go about changing the oppressive environment to something more welcoming and less prison like. It the same tactic True and the rest used in the last book when they donated money and were sen among the people. That is an integral aspect of ruling, which, as queen, will need to be her focus above just being a warrior.

But I totally agree about the disservice to Serena. I can sort of see where she was going, its almost a parallel to Tedrey (Teddy, whatever, there are already too many similar names in these, WHY does a character need MULTIPLE names) Where being appreciated and shown affection, even in a far from traditional fashion, and allowing herself to be exposed and to love without restraint and conditions can help her realize who she truly is and always has been, helping her to become a better person. Unfortunately it doesn't work nearly as well in Serena's case and comes off as "the magical debitchifying power of good cock" rather than redeeming love.

Jess Reads2Much Don't agree that making the castle prettier will in anyway affect the way the women are treated or how miserable the kingdom is and will continue to be. I don't think she needs to fight by his side but the fact that she knows little to nothing about how the kingdom is run and has no input is very telling. The peoples minds won't change because she's added some color to her home.

Kerri Rhodes you said everything I felt -- and I plan on listening to the last book, because I just can't stop.. I'm hate-listening at this point. (and if she kills Teddy, I'll never ever forgive her)

Jess Reads2Much Kerri have you read it yet?

Kerri Rhodes I just spent the past 1/2 hour sobbing -- she did it... I had hope midway through the 4th book, but... yea, I'll never forgive her.

Jess Reads2Much It wasn't even done well... Like so much emphasis Moira, Saturn and Faunus while I'm here still pissed off
