Such a good story, so well written! Bravo! I love how much development goes into each character before scary/disturbing things seriously emerge. It's one thing to just be familiar with characters and their backgrounds, but the people King depicts in this novel are people - in every sense of the word. They have daunting personal demons, they distrust the ones they love, they are weighed down by past mistakes, and -try as they may to deny it- are uncertain of everything. I was so very afraid - more for Danny, his family, and Hallorann than of just the scary things lurking in the Overlook hotel alone. (I use 'scary things' to avoid getting into specifics that may spoil the fun. Oooh, find out for yourself what comes out to play when the clock strikes midnight... pure chills!) I don't know why I waited this long to read such a good scary book, but I'm so glad I finally did. Cannot wait to start on Dr. Sleep!
