it was amazing

An engrossing, fascinating, enjoyable read, very much a "Life Is Beautiful" vibe where the story focuses on the good and wonderful while not shying away from the horrors on the periphery. The author did a wonderful job of focusing on her mother/on telling her mother's story and centering her mother as a three-dimensional, whole person with goals, wants, and needs - the story could have very easily descended into centering the father and his effect/the effects of his alcoholism and abuse but the author handled the balance between showing the abuse without centering it. A wonderful read honoring a very special woman.
