(3.5)So this is a long 763pgs…not bc the book isn’t written well or does a strong job of taking what could be a boring subject and giving it some engaging spin…but bc it’s just a long 763 pages

So as a fan of Rockefeller, read Chernow’s great book, I had the realization of how lucky the man was…he cornered the market in kerosene only to have the volatile liquid become necessary for the advent of combustion engines….

…one might monopolize maple syrup only for fate to make that liquid integral for a functioning internet…

Other apercus, I had long thought that the Japanese plan to hit Pearl Harbor and then assimilate East Asia failed bc the nipppn empire simply couldn’t bring those assets into play in WW2…that was wrong…American subs sunk a huge percentage of Japanese tonnage during the war…

Finally, the book inspired me to read books on the Yom Kippur war, Kissinger, Sadat, and the Iran Iraq War…
