A Dream of Waking Life

I got so into A Dream of Waking Life that I dreamed about it, which was so trippy, considering what this book is about. I’ve read my fair share of dream books, and none have captured me as much as A Dream of Waking Life. Every character plays a huge role in this wild, spiraling story. I loved Matt from the very first page and loved the initial chapters where he slipped from video game character to video game designer. Those sequences through the game, fighting the reaper, were flawless. His relationship with May was heartbreaking and tore me as the reader, unsure whether to fight for May or tell Matt to let her go. This book was an excellent analogy for how we often hold on to hopes/ideas/wishes so much that we ignore the truths trying to crush us. But it also showed that dreams could unlock more than our minds can handle, raising even more questions about what really happens when we dream.
