“I never told you that I love you. And I regret that, most of all.”

This book had so much promise.

The quote at the top is pretty much a microcosm of Iris our main character in her relationship.

This is a story about Iris Winnow and Roman Kitt ( who Iris typically refers to as just Kitt) who are rivals for the same columnist job at the Oath Gazette one of the newspapers featured in this book. Iris is unsure of herself, and a very good writer. Kitt, is very assured of himself and a very good writer. They clash.

Unbeknown to each other they both own a “magical typewriter” that allows what is typed on one instrument to be delivered to the other. They start a correspondence initially not knowing who they are receiving mail from (Kitt figures it out very quickly, Iris does not). Each opens up to the other in the letters they write. There affection for each other blossoms. Sounds promising, so what happened?

*********** The following contain major spoilers regarding the end of the book. (view spoiler)

************ end spoilers

I think Iris and Kitt deserved better than they got from Rebecca Ross and the book’s editor.

Imme van Gorp Ah, I can’t read this cus of the spoilers, but I’m sorry to see this was only three stars for you! I’ve heard sooo much hype for this one, I would have hoped it was a big success for you too😞❤️

Charles @ Imme I heard so much about it too, I had some issues with the book but didn’t want to give away plot elements to people who haven’t read it. And I can be picky. The parts I liked I liked a lot 🥳

Esta Charles, brilliant review and now that you've mentioned it, I completely agree with your points (even though I gave it a glowing review). Do you reckon you'll read the second book or skip it?

Charles @ Esta Probably too soon to commit to reading it. (I have 3 fantasy books of 700+ pages each stacked up) . You and most of my goodreads friends loved it, so maybe it's me, but I had trouble letting go of what happened. I absolutely loved the scene in the garden though, so maybe I'm not a complete lost cause.

It's not just you, now that you've made me aware of it I feel frustrated about that aspect too. Very valid! Regardless, happy you loved the garden scene 😁 Happy reading for your next 700+ x 3 fantasy books, sounds fun!

JustJJ Fair review Charles! I wasn't a fan of the ending either

Charles @ JustJJ I may have been overly harsh for a book so many people loved, I felt like the editor could have done a better job, if their intent was to draw things out for a second book. Thanks for you comment.
