3 stars. Slow, slow burn, friends-to-lovers, set in Austin (and Houston), TX. Starring stud Peaches & femme Jamie and their squad, Alexander shows a clear love of Texas, queer found families, and happy endings for Black women in this romance novel.

There are unfortunately a few plot points that taper off throughout the novel (view spoiler) that could've enriched the plot much more. Alexander is big on the details, and in this way, we truly get to know Jamie and Peaches, as well as their friends. However, this comes at the expense of events that push the novel forward.

I liked the third-person perspective and seeing both Peaches' and Jamie's perspectives, especially when it came to the different ways they process and communicate their familial traumas and defense mechanisms. I do wish that there had been more resolution with the families, particularly, Jamie's, towards the end of the book and the epilogue.

Overall, a good read. At times, the dialogue was a bit unrealistic and cringe-y, but I loved reading about queer Black women aspiring to their own businesses and career goals while navigating their 30s with the best kinds of communication and support they can.
