this book absolutely has my heart. the way that i fell in love with iris and roman was so unbelievable. rebecca ross has the most beautiful writing ever, although im not even slower fantasies she captivated me with this one.


iris and roman. roman and iris. kitt and winnow they genuinely make me believe in love on a whole different level. iris and roman being workplace competitors, iris writing letters to her older brother at war but instead roman receives them as an older brother missing his sister. intertwined magically.


iris is genuinely so brave & selfless. the way that she had gone through grief and loss and still was continuing on for the hopes of reconnecting with her brother, her resilience and strength was on such another level. i see so much of myself in her and yes she may not have magical powers or fight monsters but she’s one of the most bravest fmc’s ever <3

roman c kitt, so swoony n so dreamy. the way he found so much comfort in iris’ letters, and reading every single word she wrote!! waiting to hear the door click locked, coming to check on her. i could never ever get over it.

coming back after reading the second book it hurts my heart to not know it was what i envisioned): the romaniris i know was left in this book sadly. and although i didn’t like rv, i would one hundred percent recommend this book to anyone who hasn’t read it.(which i doubt most people haven’t)

one of my top reads of 2023 without a doubt.
