I've used intermittent fasting off/on since 2015 for weight loss, weight management, overall health, and disease prevention. I've done various methods (alternate day fasting, the 5:2 diet, and 16:8 IF), and they've all been beneficial. But there are crucial differences for men and women when it comes to fasting due to hormones.
Fasting Like a Girl provides a fasting manual created specifically to address women's needs based on their hormones and menstrual cycle. This book is so eye opening and informative, and it gives women a guide to utilize fasting and nutrition to better their health and well-being. I felt so seen and validated when I read this book. I highly recommend this to all women, but especially women who feel ignored by their doctors, or who have been told that it's just "stress".
My only negative about the book is that I wish she'd included a more extensive list of foods for the two eating programs (Ketobiotic and Hormone Feasting), a better breakdown/explanation of what the recommended macros (carbs/protein/fat) look like, and some meal plan ideas for both.
These are some of the various health matters addressed in the book:
Weight gain/weight loss
Weight management
Perimenopause
Menopause
Postmenopause
Hormonal imbalances
Infertility
Autoimmune conditions
Adrenal fatigue
Thryroid health
Chronic fatigue
Brain health, memory loss, depression, and anxiety
