5 stars for the ideas
-1 star for being boring
-2 stars for all the characters, even those hundreds of years old,
sounding like teenagers, complete with raging hormones

= 2 stars
I loved the author's Four Lost Cities: A Secret History of the Urban Age (nonfiction) so I'm really disappointed in this novel.

Well, the ideas in the book were really incredible, and a lot of the tech. It had the backbone to be an awesome SF but....
