So Not Meant To Be (Cane Brothers, #2)

I absolutely adore Meghan as both an author and a human being (she's pretty awesome if I do say so myself) and I was definitely looking forward to this book especially with JP & Kelsey's reactions to each other in Hux & Lotties book.. buuuut I didn't like Kelsey. At all. She was judgy, thought the worst in JP with no solid evidence to back it up, and he spent damn near the entire book trying to prove to her that she could count on him.. and she just kept expecting the worst.
Honestly JP is the reason why I gave this three stars -- he is sensitive, borderline depressed, can't get his brothers to really hear him, and the girl he's crushing on thinks he's a vile human being. This man is so freaking sweet and he listens to what Kelsey wants and goes above and beyond to do that for her, but because she's so obsessed with finding love, she overlooks what's glaring right in front of her. I just wanted to bundle up poor Jonah in my arms and keep her away from him.
That's not to say I didn't like some parts of kelsey and her relationship with JP.. I don't think she was a horrible human being but her assumptions of who JP was just really irritated me. She never tried to get to know him, and she kept going on other dates which kept breaking his heart. I just really wanted to shake some sense into this woman. Damn near everyone in the book was telling her that Jonah isn't the man she thinks he is, but does she listen?! Not a chance. Ugh.
I did really enjoy the ending, and these two were really cute together ,I just wish we didn't spend 80% of it with Kelsey being judgy to someone who never deserved it. Jonah wasn't a manwhore, he wasn't an asshole (ok, he had his moments, but don't we all?) But he just wanted Kelsey to see him the way he saw her.
I'm in no way trying to be rude to this author because she is one of the absolute best authors out there, but this one just wasn't my favorite.
**I received an ARC of this book and these are my honest opinions **

I felt like Kelsey just wanted someone to want her and when she realized JP wanted her then she was interested. JP deserved better than to be a consolation prize and that’s how it read to me.

Hated her character especially after the big drama and how JP had to make up for it even though she was in the wrong.
YES. Kelsey was annoying. I think you hit the nail on the head. The drama at the end was ridiculous.
Thanks for summarising my feelings - I just finished and wondered if I was the only one side-eyeing Kelsey!
Spot on review! I gave it two stars. I almost DNF’d several times but kept hoping it got better. JP deserves better.
You said everything with this review! Literally everything. I normally ADORE Meghan’s books but this one wasn’t it for me. I did enjoy JP and the whole pigeon/Kazoo thing. Kelsey’s character was just a “miss” for me
If I had to write a review on this book it would 1000% be this!!! I was so disappointed/annoyed with Kelsey I almost DNF!
This review is my exact thoughts. It was on its way to DNF shelf - the only reason I finished it is because I genuinely loved JP.
Yes, exactly! For being so smart in her sister’s book Kelsey pissed me off constantly in her own! I get being insecure but that crap at the end where she ‘took a break’ from JP was just plain stupid. To make it worse, he’s the one that ‘made up to her’ when it should have been the other way around. I also hated that she didn’t seem to realize or care just how much she hurt him - pretty sure getting crazy drunk because she went out on a date and then later begging her not to go on another date because of how much he liked her should have been clear indicators that he was into her and her only!
Couldn’t agree more! I’ve never disliked a FMC as much as Kelsey, she was just awful. JP deserved someone much better than her
I literally had to scan through the last 20%..I could NOT stand Kelsey anymore..especially with her being so insecure, not everything’s about sex Kelsey!! Not everyone wants to have sex every single night good lord!
I’m at the end right now and the only thing I love about this book is JP and his pigeons. The end is making me so angry!
All of this… 100%. I mean he was a total ass at the beginning though so she was not without a reason to dislike him. But even after he changed, she still said the most messed up things to him and I was like WHYYYYY!!!!
Thank you for this review. I've been trying to decide if I give this book a chance or not, just because I hated Kelsey for the entire book 1. When I discovered she was the MC in book 2 I almost cried. Horrible human, really hard to have any kind of empaty.
Your review made me see that I'll actually let this one go, even if JP is the best.

Completely agree with all of this!! Kelsey was INSUFFERABLE! I had to push through for much of it. Just loved JP’s character and wanted to see him happy
