Interesting book. Thought-provoking. Also kind of weird--he starts off autobiographical, waxing philosophical, but in the last half of the book he takes quite a turn and ends up trying to convince the reader of the paranormal. Seeing auras, channeling, spoon bending etc. But all that is interesting too. I guess it's all the rage in Hollywood.

Crichton goes to a lot of trouble to inform us how intelligent and logical he is. But I found a lot of his reasoning to be a mess logically.

Also, I walked away thinking the author is pretty much a scumbag. His pursuits in life just seem shallow and the cold way he talks about his relationships left me thinking he's pretty selfish and weird. Or maybe he was just too honest?

Patrick Peterson Fascinating guy who died pretty young, but was quite productive.

I remember loving The Andromeda Strain when I read it in the late 60s - one of the books that actually got me interested in reading more than just the minimum school required books, in Jr. High.

Did not read another one of his till Prey about 10 years ago. That was interesting, but since I lived in silicon Valley, I was not impressed by his screwing up some local/scientific facts.

I loved the movie Jurassic Park which was based on his book.
Disclosure was a fast paced and intriguing movie based on his book.

But then came "State of Fear" about the Global Warming mania. Excellent book. Full of great observations about the inconsistencies and problems with the theory. Though it is a novel, it has a HUGE set of endnotes with scientific backing to his arguments. I wish this book was made into a movie too, but of course "politically correct" Hollywood would not touch it.

Nate Yep-an interesting guy and an amazing storyteller. Very talented. I didn't even know he had died.
