I liked the first book better. But this one was a solid 3 star rating, meaning that it was an okay book.
First part of the book was about Demi getting kidnapped and being hostage of the vampires and how she escapes. The second part was when she was back in wolf city and reunited with Sawyer.
There were random interesting characters popping up, who are helping Demi and then their time is up. I am referring to Marmal the Troll lady, Arrow and Aster. The later we will see in the next book - at least thats what I think. I would have liked to see more interesting characters and more storyline about Demi and Sawyer.
Detailed summery of the whole book, heavy spoilers ahead!!!
(view spoiler)[ Demi is a lab rat in Vampire city. When she wakes up she is in a room with a camera and a bowl of water (the kind of bowl you keep for dogs). Shortly after waking two scientists and the Vampire Queen walk in. She tries to fight them, but they electrolyte her until she is unconscious again. Next time she wakes up she is tied to a gurney and again with the scientists and the vampire Queen. The Queen wants her essence and before she would like to take a taste of Demi. They untie her and the Queen gets a message, that Sawyer is there wanting Demi back. They want to hide Demi but she runs away. Then she bombs the building by throwing chemicals into a flame and escapes. Sawyer tells her to go to the border of the light fey. But she does not know where she is and ends up in Troll city. Sawyer tells her that he can’t come for her and she has to make it to Witch territory on her own, her parents and Raven will await her there. So runs into Marmal, a troll, who helps her. She had bad experience with vampires like Demi. They bond over their experience and become friends. Marmal tells her she will help her to get to dark fey territory by lending her a donkey and giving her food, a map, weapons and clothes and stuff to trade. She is supposed to be a Paladin trader. But the next morning Marmal tells her that Sawyer set out a bounty for her 1 Million Dollars and the Vampires doubled it. So now the trolls are out and searching here. And Marmal wants to be payed too, but she wants the gossip about Demi and Sawyer. After that she sends Demi on her way. The first night she meets Arrow, a Paladin. She tells him about the dead of this Paladin and it turns out, that the guy was her grandfather and the alpha of the Paladins. Arrow mentions that without the Alpha their magic will fade.
Then she has a run in with three trolls, but she shoots one of the trolls and runs away. But she is shot and has an arrow in her shoulder. She rips the arrow out and push hot metal into the wound to stop the bleeding. Then she moves on and luckily she runs into Sage and Walsh. Walsh wants to buy three horses or one and a carriage. Therefor they go to a illegal animal trait point and when they enter they see, a lot of rare animals. Walsh ask the owner about horses but has to fight to get those. He agrees, as long as they can leave, when the fight is over. But Demi sees a Paladin wolf and wants to save her. So the do a two on two fight.
In the fight one of the fighter draws a magical weapon and injures Walsh badly. He survive and the three and the Paladin flee. But Walsh is not doing good and the Paladin shifts to her human form. Turns out that she can heal him, but now she has Walsh��s injury. By claiming the Paladin Wolf as Demi’s own she saves her.
Aster tells her that she is an Alpha and wants her to come home with her, but Demi leaves Aster and go to Sawyer.
They reunite and Sawyer ask her to move in. That night Arrow visits Demi and tells her that she need to come home to save the Paladin. That without her to ground them, their magic will fade and they will become humans. But Demi still stays with Sawyer.
The next day Sawyer has surprises for Demi. He gives her a car which is bullet proof, and has a lot of safety gear and also some biohazard filters. Then they drive to a house and she finds out that Sawyer bought her a house and her parents are living there. They have a nice visit with them and Demi gets to know that they both got jobs and also are freed from their cuffs. They already turned into Wolfs that morning and went on a run.
Demi start school again and after one of her normal school day Eugene is there to give her driving lessons, but actually it is a surprise, because Sawyer proposes publicly in front of the University.
The next Day is the very public engagement party. In the morning she goes dress shopping with Sage. Aster find her at the mall. Aster looks changed. She asks Demi to come home and save them. Demi thinks that the Paladin need help with food and blankets and ask Sawyer for help. She sends Aster to meet them on the boarder of the two territories. But Sawyer can’t decide to give so much food and blankets without consulting the ruling alpha, his father. His father denies the request. And Demi goes to the Hotel, where her engagement will take place to talk to him.
She persuades him to help the Paladin and is off to get ready for the engagement party. They meet up with the parents, before their engagement party. Sawyer gives her shoes and new cuffs, but cuffs she can put on and off whenever she likes. Her mother and Sawyers father meet again and they are both upset how they treated each other. Finally the party begins and to Demis astonishment, Meredith’s mother is there. Sawyer tell her that Meredith planned the engagement with the spelled necklace and fake Sawyer so they invited the mother. But Demi tells him that Meredith did not know it, she was surprised to see Demi kiss the fake Sawyer. And while tell him this they are attacked by Vampires.
Demi and Sawyer hurry to their family and one Vampire tells Colt that the Vampire Queen sends a message: an eye for an eye. The spot a red sniper dot on Sawyer and Demi struggles to get in front of Sawyer but can’t reach him but his dad reaches him and get shot. In Colts last minute he forgives Demis mom and tells his family that he loves them all. And that Sawyer will be a great Alpha, better than him.
After that hell breaks loose. The Werewolfs want to leaf half of the security to protect
the elder and women and children, but Demi tells them to all go and she will protect them. She gets outet to be a split shifter, when she calls her wolf. Sage and Demi fight side by side and protect the weak wolfs. After they have saved a lot of them, Sawyer takes his mom home and Demi looks after the funeral preparations.
When see meets up with Sawyer at his house they see that their situation is bleak, as they have only a fraction of the witches with them. Demi tells Sawyer that she can get help from the Paladins, but Sawyer won’t let her got. She finally escapes with Sage and runs into the Wild Lands.
