did not like it

I’ll never recommend this series to anyone. I had high hopes for book four, but again it was just a disappointment. It’s not a love story, it’s just a toxic relationship, just like the previous books.

Colin Bridgerton has angry issues just like Anthony and Benedict. He is well-known as the fun Bridgerton, and there are moments that he can’t even recognize himself because of this angry moments. He gets mad at Penelope basically the whole time. He gets mad because she has a secret, he gets mad because he didn’t discover this secret before, and then gets mad because he’s jealous of her.

Numerous times he grabs Penelope by her shoulders or hands, and he hurts her. At some point he even mentions that he is so furious that his wife could wake up the next day with a huge bruise.

Also, Colin is happy when Penelope is scared about everyone discovering her secret because she should be scared about the talk that they will have alone after and what could happen during that talk. Everything is so terrible that I can’t comprehend how everyone is giving such high ratings to this book.

Penelope even mentions during the story that she doesn’t know how could she be in love during so many years with Colin when this guy that she was in love didn’t even exist. She didn’t know that Colin was a completely different person. However, she stills believe that he’s gentle and kind because he shows that he cares about her sometimes, and that’s enough to make the anger go away.

THAT’S EXTREMELY PROBLEMATIC, PEOPLE! This isn’t love! This is a toxic relationship where the girl thinks that the minimum is enough and that the guy just have some terrible moments, but most of the time he’s a nice man.

This book has absolutely no purpose, and it’s horrifying to think that some younger people may read this and believe that love always have at least a little bit of violence. How could someone like this book? How could someone read this and be ok with the story?

Daniela Díaz I agree with everything🥲

Tough Marshmallow I agree with every single word. I was almost scared in some points, when we read his inner monologue, felt straight out of a thriller book

Justine Sturrup I agree with everything that you wrote. I've been struggling to read through this for a while and it wasn't until I got to the engagement party was I able to put my finger on it...I just really don't like Colin. He's abusive.

message 4: by Emma (new) - rated it 1 star

Emma Bruncheski Especially when Pen is so terrified at their engagement party. That was horrible

Jenna I’m so glad they overhauled the story in the Netflix show so far. He’s just constantly aggressive and angry and at one point thinks to himself that he thinks he could kill her he’s so mad. And the root of this anger is jealousy?!? No, just no

message 6: by Evelyn (new)

Evelyn I was so excited to read this....thank you so much for the warning. If I read a man hurting a woman and not getting any repercussions....it would be very very difficult for me to read. Thank you!!!

J. Moody Thank you! I was so horrified by the accepted violence in this. It was insane to me that right after the engagement party (when he bruises her arm) they are about to have sex and she thinks something like "Colin would never hurt me, he's so gentle and kind, it's just not in his nature." Honey! You were terrified a minute ago and there are fresh bruises on you arm.

Ibtida Hossain also in the third book's epilogue whistledown wrote a column on april 30, 1824 but in this one she wrote her last one on april 24, 1824. can someone tell me like what did i miss? or did i read wrong ?

Kelli Well shit. So the series doesn't get better then. Anthony is a waste of skin, Benedict needs a beating. And Colin is bad too? Is this the worst family of men or what??
