This is another installment in the series, and I had a really tough time putting it down. I just ripped through the first half of the book and only slowed down because I couldn't spend all my time reading! I know the MacKenna's tie back to Garwood's Historicals, but I'm not quite sure which book they appear in. I love this series.
Kate MacKenna and her sisters have been through a lot. Their father died when they were young and their mother died a year ago. Kate started her company while in high school and now it is a leading specialty company. Everything is looking up for her. Her oldest sister, Keira, is heading back to medical school and her youngest sister, Isabel, is heading for college. She is looking to expand her company and has the backing of the Charlston elite. But, when she discovers a loan, her mother took out, her future is in danger. At a gallery event, she is thrown by a bomb blast, but not badly injured. The hot police detective thinks that the controversial artist, Cinamon is the target. But after the second bomb explodes, they now thing the target is Kate. On the heels of all this Kate is notified that she has received a substantial inheritance from a great-uncle she never knew.
Dylan Buchanan is a Boston cop and the brother of Kate's best friend, Jordan. When Kate calls Jordan with the news about the bombs, Jordan dispatches Dylan to protect Kate and find the bomber. Dylan has quite the reputation with the ladies and when Kate, at a moment of weakness, sleeps with him, she is sure that that is all there will ever be between them. But Dylan has other ideas. But first he needs to figure out who is behind the bombs and stop them.
