My individual evalution for each of the stories featured in this volume:
1) The Afghan - Excellently compacted with very dramatic effect.
2) Sun at Midnight - This shortened version cut the depth and emotion of the story.
3) Echo Park - Nice selection. No real complain here.
4) Messenger of Truth - Another good choice. I will check out more of Jacqueline Winspear.
Basically Reader's Digest Select Edition is a good way to sample out what other author has to offer.
