it was ok
bookshelves: books-read-in-2019, books-read-in-2019-new, format-ebook, how-own

This is one of those books that was very up and down for me! I didn't like the beginning much, but it grew on me a lot in the middle. Then it just dragged on and there were too many obstacles. So two stars in the end.

But I did like it as really a Titanic survivor story and I DO forget how quickly WWI followed it.

Annnd this finishes my other reading goal of reading two owned ebooks every month. This is the second year in a row that I've done it and I do enjoy it. Both for the pleasure of actually attacking that reading stack and for reading books that are a little older. And books that I was once desperate to read and yet someone never did!

Next year I think I'm going to continue doing 2 owned ebooks, 2 owned physical books a month, and add a fifth owned book that can be of either type. (According to GoodReads, I have 242 unread books. I need to add some ARCs I picked up from work over the last few years, but otherwise, I think that's about right.)

kris Just want to comment on your proposed 2020 reading on-hand goals because it's an excellent goal. (I feel like I shout this at you every year, swear I will do it too, and then disappear off the face of the earth like some kind of dang fool.)

Katie Ha! Maybe I'll start leaving you nagging comments on every review: WAS THAT SOMETHING YOU OWNED, KRIS? (But maybe what I'll really do is make note of it in my reviews through the years. I don't know why it's been somewhat of a ~secret goal.)

I probably say this every year, too, but I really do feel overall comfortable with my book buying habits these days! I have no lingering 2019 purchased ebooks. Maybe 5 physical books, which are mostly ARCs from work. And one is a gift, so that's not my fault. :P

Beth You should make note of it! It’s a great goal and one I didn’t know you had ;)

Also, wow to no lingering purchased ebooks!

kris That's amazing, Katie! I ... definitely have, erm, fallen into some bad habits of late. (It's my new shelves! I have a way to organize my treasures so YES I'M BUYING ALL THE BOOKS AGAIN AHAHA.) But this means my to-read (physical) stacks are impressively robust.

The ebooks thing is also SPECTACULARLY impressive!

Katie It helps a LOT that I have such great libraries! I can easily get my hands on the vast majority of what I want to read. (Keep in mind though that that is ONLY for 2019, haha. Plenty of lingering ones from before!)

Kris, that sounds like an ENTIRELY valid reason to buy books. :D
