When reading a book that is considered a classic, I often feel any attempt at writing a review would be inadequate. I won't attempt to provide any great insights but simply share my feelings about the novel.

A compelling and timeless tale - 5 stars

This is my first Stienbeck novel and my first time reading this novel. Regardless, I had a basic sense of what the story was about and I knew how it ended. Having that knowledge going in provided me with more insight as I was reading.

The story has a sense of timelessness. George and Lennie are two outsiders trying to carve out a small place in the world and are themselves surrounded by a large number of other outsiders. Who hasn't felt like an outsider at some point in their life. The story was captivating because the underlying themes were relatable.

It is by no means an uplifting story. The novel begins with a sense of tragedy that leaves the reader looking behind each page for tragedy to strike again.

A timeless, emotional story with relatable themes makes Of Mice and Men an interesting and compelling read. The short page count makes it a great option for someone who wants to give classic literature a try.

In the end, I found the novel to be enjoyable and worthy of a five star rating.
