This is the best science fiction novel I have read for a long time. I have no words to describe how thoroughly enchanting this story was from beginning to end. But if I could dare try, I would compare it to a meticulously made cake with several layers, each having its own flavor, each better tasting than the previous one. It starts with some scenes from the Chinese Cultural Revolution (the crust), then as the story progresses, we get introduced to new layers of the plot that change our perspective of the characters, sometimes 180 degrees.
