it was ok

This started off really strong, but I gotta be honest with you all: I completely stopped giving a shit about this at about the 65% mark. This book was just way too long with not enough pay off. The biggest meh.

Girl Same.

Aftin Combs The length, the weird amount of religion, and the weak characterization all made this book fall super short for me

BetweenLinesAndLife Oh no :(

message 5: by Amy (new)

Amy Lou So sad. I have to hope we’ll have a different opinion on this one.

message 6: by Charity (new)

Charity Beacock Oh no. Just got my hands on a copy of the book. I hope I like it

Kyla Same girl, same. The ending was like...? I really read all of that for this?

Andrew Yeah, I'm at about the 65% mark, but I've only every given up on finishing one book (as an adult), so...trying to hang in there. Bought the audio - book, so, kind of half listening now. It was really gripping at first and now...ugh.

Alisha I disagree. It is, undeniably, a LONG book. But, oh man, it was creepy. Every chapter ended in such a way that I HAD TO know what was coming next. It's been ages since I've stuck with a novel this long, but this one absolutely would not let me go!

I am envious of your view of this book! i am on chapter 125 now and just marveling at how little the author can say with so many words, and how much the author repeats himself and/or scenes...he has been milking this "let's get the nice man to get Christopher to kill the hissing lady" for like 30 chapters now....Gosh. Really hope I can finish this book today and move on with my life...

Douglas Lazorick Andrew so true! Christopher had one minute to act but then there are pages and pages and pages describing a bunch of nonsense without any real point.

Geneen Kudler Agreed!

I'm so sorry its not working out for you! It IS long, and your right about parts of it being repetitive. Somehow I still found it to be suspenseful and really enjoyed it.

Good luck with your next read. I hope its much more enjoyable!

Emily Yessss

Rachel (Into a Story) Yessss. Tedious is the perfect word for it.

Karen W I agree. I still gave it four stars because I couldn’t pit it down for the first three quarters, but I did find myself skimming through the last quarter. I was satisfied with the ending, but felt it could have been wrapped up in fewer than 600 pages as opposed to 700!

Rachel I couldn't agree more!!

Tasha Covarrubias I am at the last 100 pages and I’m like *YAWN* it’s very repetitive now. And I’m wishing it would just end already. But I came so far and I need to know how it ends.

Dayna Vanover One of the most dragged out books I’ve read in a long time. This book made very little sense. A big waste of my time!

January Agreed. It started off strong, and at about 60% through I was actually really interested...and then it's like it fell off a cliff and I had no Fs to give. I am only finishing it to actually find out what happens at the end.

message 21: by Deb (new) - added it

Deb Korch Totally agree

Brandy Completely agree! It was very tedious and was creepy for the first 1/3 of the book then it was just too repetitive and unnecessary

Carol Yarbrough And then SPOILER - really? The devil? Gah

Claudia OMG! I couldn't agree more. Not even going to finish this.

Jamie-Lynn SAAAAMMMMMEEEE.
It was so hard to finish. It started out good too. The last "Part" went completely off the deep end. Like some stuff didn't even make sense anymore to me. And I was bummed that they talked about that milk carton girl so much to just like "save" her real quick in one random chapter. I was BEGGING for this book to be over when normally I come upon an end and want more. Definitely not this time!

Christine Gaza Agreed! Too many ideas thumped into one too long book!

Katie Buckingham Commit people. Sheesh

Brandy Simmons Totally agree. It was literally painful to finish.

Laura I got SO bored. Strong start, intrigued and then- I was so ready for it to end. I felt like the same thing kept happening for about 400 pages. Ugh.

message 30: by Tracy (new) - rated it 1 star

Tracy Smithey Agreed. I am listening to the audiobook and forcing myself to finish it because I already devoted like 16 hours of my life to it. It’s like one big long acid trip and I’m tired of trying to make it make sense. 1.5 more hours to go.

message 31: by Jill (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jill Dvorsky Wow, I enjoyed the end so much that I started from page one as soon as I’d finished. The 2nd time thru is even more enjoyable to me because I can notice more bread crumbs. I find it a fascinating story. I am very disappointed that they left Mary Catherine in such an odd, confusing place.

message 32: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Garrett Exactly how I felt but I managed to slog through. Time I can't get back.

Susana Palma Yes...i feel the same

message 34: by Lisa (new) - added it

Lisa I really enjoyed the beginning but had to make myself finish it, hoping it would get better. I suspect the end was planned for a sequel and if that is the case, I doubt I’d read it. I wish it would of ended before I lost interest.

message 35: by Amy (new) - rated it 3 stars

Amy Mason Absolutely the same opinion!

message 36: by Allison (new)

Allison I DNF'd for me it was awful 😖

Jenifer LOVED THE BEGINNING! and was so intrigued for probably half of the book. but i think the story was dragged on too long and i was a little disappointed with the ending!

message 38: by H (new) - rated it 1 star

H Gilbert Glad I found a spoiler review at last. I'm at seven hours left on Audible. Deleting now to never be revisited.

This book needed a vicious editor. So slow, meandering, and tedious.

And I thought Klavans Werewolf Coo was bad. No longer listening to book recs from the Brain trust on the Reddit horror subs.

Bethany Me too omg I couldnt stand it anymore! I hate to say it but I gave up at chapter 105!! No more I couldn't do it

Conchita Matson I quit giving a crap about 50%

Emily Palmer My thoughts exactly

message 42: by Shannon (new)

Shannon Came here to find this review!! Listened on audible and at about the 14 hour mark I wanted to throw in the towel. It felt like he was writing a script for a horror movie and not a book. So disappointed.

George Limberis Agreed. I finished it but it was a chore. Thumbs down.

Sarah Agreed... made it to page 620 which is almost done but I just could not do it anymore!! I really wanted to finish it just to say I did it but I just couldn’t force myself to go to the end...big disappointment

Michael Engel Ditto to all of the above. The only thing that made the book memorable is that I had added some oldies to a Spotify playlist. Started listening to it. "Blue Moon” was playing. Started reading on page approximately 1245 and—the character was humming—you guessed it: “Blue Moon.”

message 46: by Bethany (new) - added it

Bethany Seabolt Same! I couldn’t get enough as it headed toward an intense climax... and then I saw there were 11 hours left to the audiobook. After 4 more hours I called it quits.

Zooey Glass You perfectly wrote the review I wanted to write

Kerri I gave it to 70% and skimmed until the end.

Perfect description. I agree 1000%!
