it was ok

Gah! I was really disappointed with this little series from Allende. I love her books so much, but she did NOT successfully make the transition to writing for younger readers. The plots of all three in the series were very interesting and could have been a lot of fun, but the writing was often awkward and forced, especially the magical bits. The characters were a little two-dimensional, and even the dialogue was strained. She had some nifty ideas, but it seemed like she was trying to dumb them down for younger readers, rather than just letting them flow.

Constanza I totally agree with you, Allende did fail to transition from genre. I read this book in spanish and the plot contradicts itself constantly. The character ,being North American, cannot understand spanish however there are points in the book where Allende seems to forget this. I think this book was a ploy to enter a more commercialized market.

Mariel I agree with you in that the ideas were dumbed down.

Isabel I agree with Sage. Maybe it was a matter of translation. I'm from Venezuela and fully understand the problems in the Amazonas, that is not fiction at all, and the way the kids started acting is also real in native's tribes.
